Ok, so what do I need to do to take advantage of this promotion? I've already preordered a 7+ 128gb matte black through AT&T Next. Do I just show up in-store and say I want to trade my 6S+ 16gb and receive the $650 credit towards my new phone? Or do I have to initiate a chat with customer service to confirm I am eligible? I'm a n00b lol
If I were you, I would do a chat and make sure. They told
Me since I went through the link that specifically said I was trading in a 6s, I would get a box along with my new phone to send in my old one. I'm pretty sure you could
Just take the old one to an att store too.

I'm confused on how this would work..

My wife and I have a shared plan currently with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 + (grandfathered unlimited plan which I don't want to lose).

We also have never done the next plans or whatever because we purchased our current phone with the 2 year contract discount prices(our contracts are up too). I have already paid full price for a new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 + (128gb for both) from apple.

I was going to try and sell our 2 current phones to ATT or sell them some other way anyway. I wonder if the AT&T deal would still work for me.. Anyone know??

If u pay full price from Apple, I'm pretty sure this deal won't work because they want you to sign up through next and get a new two year contract. I'm sure you can cancel your order and then go through next. Might bump back your ship date of course. Not sure if u lose your unlimited.

I'm in the exact situation. Except I never ordered from Apple. I ordered through att, kept my unlimited plan. It was a little confusing going through their ordering process, it kept wanting me to choose a data plan even though I had "unlimited" selected. I ignored the alerts and the deal went through fine.

I just need to call my local att store and see what they say

I ordered through the apple store app for the iPhone7 and also for the 6. I didn't see anything regarding my plan or even a place to pick a plan when I ordered this time. I'm assuming this is since I paid out of pocket which I thought was better than paying each month. I guess I need to call att and see what the deal is.

Call if you want but the answer is simple. You only get this trade in deal if you bought the phone with the att Next payment plan. Buying the phone outright does not qualify you for this deal. In fact, if you use Next and then payoff your phone in full on the first month, you also lose this deal. You need to use Next.

If you paid full price, you aren't eligible for this deal. The fine print says your new phone has to be financed through AT&T Next. The promotion is technically just a credit to your account that is applied to your monthly Next payment plan. So if you get the base iPhone 7 32GB, it pays for the entire thing. If you get a higher tier phone, you pay the difference between the higher month price and the credit. For instance, I'm getting a 7 plus 128GB which is $29 per month. The trade in promotion will give me $21.67 credit, meaning I only pay $7.33 per month for the phone.

This is a really good deal, too. I was expecting to only get about $400 or slightly less selling my iPhone 6 plus 64GB on Craigslist. And my wife's phone has a slight curve so I was only expecting $350 for hers. With this deal, we're getting $1300 for our 2 phones by trading them in. If you want to cash in on it, you'd have to cancel your full price orders and switch to getting them on a Next 24 or 30 month plan but I would chat with customer service first and make sure you can use Next while keeping your grandfathered plan. It may not be cost effective since those old plans had the subsidized phone cost factored in to them.

If I do this promotion and then buy an iPhone 8 for full price can I just switch sims and sell my iPhone 7 next year?

I would think you have to pay off the iPhone 7 to be able to sell it. It'll be locked until you do.

That makes sense. So if I payoff my iPhone 7 I will get approx 1/2 of the $650 credit? (sorry if this has been covered already in this thread).

Thanks! Yeah I may end up just selling my current phones on CL. I feel like something would happen and I would get screwed some how.

I am not familiar with Next and Next Year. If I plan to get the new iPhone 8 next year which would be a better choice? If I plan to keep my 7 for 2 years then just going with Next would make sense? I am not sure how this would work with the $650 promotion, in particular if I opt out early.

Oh darn! You still get the deal if you pre ordered through Apple on a ATT Next plan. I don't think a down payment is necessary either
it's not, it never was actually. I only put the down payment down to keep the payments low to make my wife happy. By doing the trade in I will not be doing any downpayment, the money hadn't been drafted yet so it never went anywhere.

If you trade in after twelve months, half of the money you put down in a down payment is basically free money for att. Never put money down on a lease. Never. The only way to not get screwed now is to buy out the phone (either in full lump sum at 12 months or by letting the 24 payments play out) and then resell it yourself to recoup your down payment.

I completely understand that. The main reason was to keep the monthly payments lower which makes my wife happy. Telling her it is $20/month is a lot easier than telling her $40/month (more like $35 but you get the picture). I work a side job that takes less than 12 hours to make that $300. That is more than worth a happy wife which makes for me a happy life. Plus at Christmas we are getting the kids new phones(refurbed SE's) and would like to keep the bill under $300.

But that's all water under the bridge. By doing the trade in the payment different from credit to model we want is less than $10/month. Of course I would like to be able to just buy everything outright but our middle class government jobs don't allow us the resources to do so. We kept out 6/6+ for two years and very well may this time. I know my wife will. I am the tech nut who upgrades often.

I you upgrade early you simply lost any future credit you would have gotten. The 7 will be free until you upgrade to the 8 at which point you would begin making normal NEXT payments on that phone.

I already pre ordered the 7+, my contract for my 6 "technically" expires in december. Will I still be able to do the trade in with my 6?

I got the Next plan and kept my grandfathered unlimited data plan. It's not so costly for ATT as I didn't use a lot (but preferring to keep it for future changes in needs) and I was actually overpaying for my iPad lines ($41 per each iPad a month for 3gb). But I recommend going into a store rather than doing it online.

Currently we have 3 iPhones on our account (2 - iPhone 6 and 1-iPhone 6S). The two iP6's are on Next and my wife's iPhone 6s we paid outright. Does it matter which iPhone we turn in? Granted I understand that the two iPhones that are on Next plans still carry a balance and if I traded in would have to pay off the balances. What I am curious about is would they know which device is tied to the Next plans? I would prefer to trade in 1 of the 2 Next devices instead of my wife's and then give her's to our daughter since it is a newer device.

Can anyone confirm that preorders made via Apple's site, on an ATT Next plan, are still eligible with qualifying trade-in?

What about an iPhone ordered via Apple's site but on the Apple Installment Program (I didn't choose Next at checkout). I am currently on a fully paid for iPhone 6 with unlimited data

I suppose I can walk into AT&T and convert my plan to Next and they would accept my trade in?

you do not get a $650 credit you get a credit of $21.67 or $27.09 a month depending on the next plan you chose. To get the benefit of the full $650 you will have to let the next contract run it's course.

You cannot walk into the store and convert to next. Both Next and the Applue Upgrade Plan are loans to pay for your phone. One is through ATT and the other through a private bank (Citizen's Bank). You would need to cancel your Apple Upgrade Plan loan and reorder the phone through att (or Apple.com) and select AT&T's Next payment plan as the source of payment for your new device.

Thanks just realizing that now through some more research. I made the mistake of ordering through AT&T as opposed to Apple under Next as Apple is shipping faster than AT&T. Grrr, now I'm trying to cancel my AT&T order in order to get my eligibility back and re-order through Apple. I'm now officially in AT&T Hell....

can take up to 3 months, that part is not set in stone for each and every acct. from what I understood and when it does take 3 months the first credit will be for 3 pymts.

Also, I didn't choose the Apple Upgrade Plan but rather the Apple Installment Plan if that makes any sort of a difference. Pretty sure both are through Citizens Bank so probably not

This is correct. The first credit will catch up to however many months it took for the credit to be applied. This is what happened when I switched to the unlimited data plan with AT&T/Direct TV. The 4th line is free but it's charged and credited. It only took one month to apply so I paid the $40 the first month and then the second month there was an $80 credit to cover that month and the previous. Since then, it's been a $40 credit every bill.

you do not get a $650 credit you get a credit of $21.67 or $27.09 a month depending on the next plan you chose. To get the benefit of the full $650 you will have to let the next contract run it's course, also if I am reading the contract right you MUST let it run it's course.

You do no have to let it run its course, you simply lose whatever credit is left when you upgrade.
