I notice they also cut the device fee. I was getting a $40!! device fee before when I picked plans under 10GB, now it's $25 for plans under 10GB and $15 for 10GB and up.

They're being damn aggressive with the price drops!

We have T-Mobile to thank for that. :p

Just not for Verizon, and least for nothing outside of being on the Edge program.

Trust me, losing 1 million customers will be VERY SIGNIFICANT to Verizon.

AT&T just announced this:

AT&T is cutting the price of its 2GB Mobile Share Value Plan.
The company announced Saturday that starting tomorrow -- Sunday -- customers with one smartphone can sign on to the 2 gig plan for $65 a month, and customers with two smartphones can sign on for $90 a month. In both cases, that's a $15 drop from current Mobile Share Value Plan charges, the company said.

Customers can bring their own phone, buy one at full retail, or finance one through AT&T Next.
The plans come with unlimited talk and text, 50GB of cloud storage, and unlimited international messaging, AT&T said

The network is strong enough that they don't have to worry about AT&T right now. Maybe when AT&T catches up in LTE deployment they can make Verizon react. So far the customers have shown that they value the broad coverage of Verizon over cost. As evidenced by the large number of customers Verizon gained compared with the mediocre gains of AT&T last year. AT&T had to react to T-Mobile, Verizon didn't.

That was before AT&T new prices. AT&T only dropped the prices VERY recently. Feb 2 2014 if I remember correctly.

Last year, AT&T and Verizon prices were about the same.

Starting Feb 2 2014, it is a whole different ballgame.

AT&T is schooling Verizon when it comes to prices.

Time will tell. Verizon will react, but I think they will provide more for the same price. Pay more get much more.

Verizon already kinda reacted with the $20 per line discount for EDGE. Imho, they need to extend the discount for BYOD and off-contract subscribers. Anyhow, we'll see if Verizon makes any changes from now until the next iPhone's release.

I think they will have to do something. Verizon like apple thinks of themselves as a premium service provider. That's great as long as the customer base feels the same and is willing to pay the price.

Trying to make the 10GB work but having some trouble (we only have 2 smartphones and 3rd talk/text phone). Just doesn't seem like I can make the numbers work to our benefit.

Our main problem is I have unlimited data but use very little since I have wifi most everywhere. My wife consistently goes over her 3GB of data so we usually get 1-2GB of overage ($10-20).

Anyone know what the employer discount (not employEE discount, I think it's called FAN) applies to with this plan? Is it just the $100? Does it also apply to my phone? The other two phones?

Most FAN discounts just apply to the data portion. My 25% discount saves me $25 per month on the 10GB plan.

I guess when the Q1 numbers come out we will see. AT&T really isn't all that much cheaper once you factor in either buying your handsets outright or financing using the NEXT program. Verizon still can charge slightly more because of the difference in coverage. Verizon customers can be almost anywhere in teh geographic US and still have service. Can't say that for the other 3 carriers.

Unless you already have a paid off phone.... Then it is significantly cheaper.

Guys just stop already with the Verizon has more coverage bit.

While Verizon may have more RURAL coverage, they're neck and neck with AT&T in cities and the surrounding suburbs.

All this foolishness about Verizon being the Apple of Wireless is hogwash!!! Verizon has not consistently been on top, like they used to.

I've always had AT&T and they have never left me without service, so what you guys are talking about is a bunch Red Sheep nonsense.

I'm so glad I'm not mindless, commercial repeating subscriber like you guys seem to be; smh #

Or Verizon could actually have better coverage in various areas where differnent people are where AT&T (and/or other carriers) is lacking in one way or another.

You can have any opinion you want. I'm with verizon because I feel they are the best for me. Although I do feel verizon beats out ATT overall, even if by some peoples estimation a smal margin.

I've seen several replies here regarding my situation, but I'm still not quite clear. My old plan was a 2-line (one was an unused line) family plan w/ 450mins, SMS, etc; I also had a VZW iPad 3rd gen connected to VZW prepay. Last week, I switched to the new Mobile Share 10GB plan, had my VZW iPad take over the unused line so that it would just be $10/mo instead of the $15/mo - also so it's going to get used.

Now, my question/issue is this. Many have stated that switching to these plans do away with your subsidy for the next iPhone. My second line, which now the iPad has, is due for an upgrade on 11/11/14; my main line isn't until 2015. My concern is that would I be getting the $450 discount at time of purchase/signing the contract? Would my current $15/mo and $10/mo for the lines stay the same?

Hopefully that made sense.

That is true, if you want to go on some of the newer promotional plans, you pay the full price for the iPhone. If you do not want to cough up 600+ for the iPhone you can spread the cost of the phone over 2 years. ATT reduces the month to month data cost if you go with this option, and VZW reduces the data plan around 20 dollars depending on which data plan you have (I think)

The main draw for these plans, as I see it, is for folks who like to change phones often, not for those who keep it for 2 years.

I did the math on the current VZW Edge plan and I found it to be nearly identical to my old contract plan. The only downside is you when you when a new phone (after having paid 1/2 of the phone off either monthly or in a lump sum) you have to trade that in to get another

Not necessarily the case for everyone. I'm on a 4-line AT&T Mobile Share Value 10GB plan and it actually saves me $264 over the life of contract even if I stick to a 2-year upgrade schedule on all 4 lines. I actually save even more since 2 of the lines on our account don't care about upgrading their phones so I'm not on the hook for a $450 subsidy (more like $480 + $36 activation fee, actually) on those should they keep the phones until they break.

It is entirely your choice. With the mobile share plans, you have three options when upgrading to a new phone:

1) Stay on the no-contract plan and bring your own device: You keep the $15 smartphone rate, but pay full price for the new phone

2) Stay on the no-contract plan and use Next: You keep the $15 smartphone rate, and pay for the new phone in monthly installments in addition to your plan

3) Enter a new 2-year contract: Your smartphone rate goes up to $40, but you get the new phone for the subsidized price

3) Enter a new 2-year contract: Your smartphone rate goes up to $40, but you get the new phone for the subsidized price
Which is seriously not worth it since on the 10GB plan, it adds $25/mo per line to your plan cost which equals $600 after 2 years and you still have the initial payment of $199/299/399 plus $36 activation making that $649/749/849 iPhone cost $835/935/1035.

If you don't fancy the higher monthly payments with Next 12 and expect to upgrade every 2 years, just opt for Next 18 and pay off the $50-65 of the remaining installment on the 24 month mark.

Agreed. Plus, you lock yourself in for 2 years.

There's a thought. Is it possible to get the device on contract and just pay the ETF after a month has passed and go back to the $15 line fee?

$199 upfront cost
$325 ETF
$36 activation fee
$25 add'l charge for 1 month
-------------------------
$585

Just switched to ATT 10 GB share plan, 2 phones (BYOD) and 2 iPads after being with VZW for 11 years. ATT's plan is $50 cheaper than comparable VZW plan, plus I will get $400 credit after 45 days. No-brainier; good-bye, VZW.

ATT's signal is much better at my home, good signal inside. VZW had spotty signal outside, none inside. Recently took a road trip from VA to Atlanta GA with ATT SIM in an iPad and had good signal all the way.

I'm very glad that T-Mobile and ATT are competing on price now. I'm a big fan of buying the phone outright, unlocked. No contract, no carrier bloatware/crapware. We are already seeing that used, unlocked phones are keeping value well, especially GSM phones that can be used overseas, like iPhones, Nexus phones, etc. Don't buy any phone locked to a carrier.

Very happy with ATT so far after 3weeks. Data will be more important going forward. All of the data-syncing services, location-based services (e.g., maps & navigation), and ad video content on web sites really chews up data. We're already seeing that most of the plans offer unlimited talk & text. No one cares about those limits any more -it's all about the data. Soon even the voice calls will be using data protocols, not the traditional voice call protocols.
