Verizon isn't ATT and have marketed themselves as a premium network and is under no obligation to give away their services, and, do not have to play with ATT and T-Mobile. However, the market, meaning their consumers, will let them know how they feel about the price of their services.

I'm staying as at this point I'm grandfathered into a great plan.
No one is giving away services or would be giving them away it would seem. I guess it's unfortunate to see VZW think of themselves so highly that they decided they don't need to do as much for their customers as their firstly equivalent rival, having done that for ages before when that rival was actually not as equivalent. We'll see how it all goes as far as the market is concerned, but in the end for the customer in the general sense the omission of not offering one if the bigger pieces of these new plans is still unfortunate.

I don't view it as unfortunate at all, and like you I have no crystal ball.

At this point in time, mid-February, this is what the market looks like. AT&T has made an attractive offer. Those who think they are better off on AT&T will move. Verizon has already taken this account; the free market system is at work here. The market will let them know how they feel about these new plans. The stock market already said, "we don't like price reductions".

Well I was ready to move from Verizon to AT&T - had the data been a little better in my area - Today I would an AT&T customer. The Verizon offer did nothing for me so in another couple of months I will do another test in my area

How does Verizon's 'More Everything' stack up to competitors' offers?

Cnet needed to bold and highlight this statement,

"But where Verizon still differs from T-Mobile and AT&T is that it doesn't offer any such discount for a customer bringing his or her own Verizon-compatible device to the network. In other words, if you've already paid off your Verizon smartphone from a previous Verizon contract or you bring your own device to the network, you don't get a discount on your monthly service, like you would with AT&T or T-Mobile."

Pretty much sums it all.

I'm with Verizon, 2 smart phones, 4G shared data, subsidized. I pay now $150 before discount and taxes. It looks like I don't get any more data with this new plan. I don't care about cloud. With my next credit card bill cycle I will port my phone to ATT, because I will pay ETF. Big resin is that my sisters 3rd phone on ATT, paid for so I will save good chunk of money with 3 phones on ATT.

Verizon can and will continue to price their plans higher than AT&T because they have the superior network. Those who live in areas where AT&T is comparable can go for it but those who like to know that they have LTE just about anywhere they go along with superior voice quality will stick with verizon. I voted verizon so I'll be staying put.

The big decider for me was the $15 per month plans. I always keep my phones for two years anyway. I share my plan with my mom and dad who almost never need an upgrade and are fine with what they have. The big thing with the Verizon plan is there is no opportunity to save money with them. Once you pay off the phone on Edge, you rate goes back up to $40. Right now on AT&T, I pay $15 (brought all phones over) and as long as I use Next or buy the phone outright, that price will never go up. Oh and my dad uses a basic phone, on Verizon $30 no matter what. So still saving $$$.

They haven't really been doing before when they had much more of an advantage over AT&T as far as quality and coverage. Now that the two are closer in all of that VZW decides to just omit a big part of new pricing structure (not discounting owned equipment, which is a rather large part of it all) that otherwise matches things pretty closely as it has most of the time before.

"Make sure you get a signal where you live, work and travel. Otherwise the savings are meaningless".

Exactly. The first criteria in choosing a carrier is coverage in the places you need it. I don't give a rats arse about coverage in places I'm not. It's as dumb to spend extra for better coverage in places you don't go as it is to save money yet be unable to use your phone.

T-Mobile & AT&T give full signal at home (even in the basement) while Sprint and Verzon don't work well unless I go outside. T-Mobile coverage at my work locations is poor, while AT&T is solid.

Over the past year or two, AT&T has largely closed any gap that existed between them and Verizon. There are obviously areas where one works better than the other, and in that situation cost shouldn't matter, you need to pick the carrier that actually works for you.

Check out rootmetrics, AT&T shows very good results using their crowd sourced data.

Yep, AT&T has stepped it up. LTE is in most places on my drive to my parent's house (3 hours so lots of rural areas...used to be EDGE only!) and when not it's 3G with speeds of at least 3-5Mb, which is fine.

Apparently Verizon didn't expect AT&T to be so aggressive with LTE and is getting left behind now. LTE requires towers more closer together than they were able to get away with CDMA and so all of the GSM carriers are set and Verizon is having issues.

That's what Verizon users keep telling themselves, but it's not completely true. They have more nationwide coverage, but for most people they only care about whether it works well in the places they frequent the most (and it's unlikely to be the entire United States). Each network has their good and bad markets, yet they aren't all priced as high as Verizon.

If the coverage from AT&T and Verizon is the same in the places where you need it (home, work, etc...)

Is there any reason to stay with Verizon? (beside the fact that you are still in contract and have to pay the ETF?)

I'd say no. Why pay the carrier more for the same service?

I get 55 down according to the speedtest using lte, in my area. Don't think I'm having issues.

Call up Verizon they will give you 1GB extra for 1 year no matter what share plan you have.

I can show you screenshot/s if you don't believie.

Call up and say you would like to add promotion that offers 1GB of shared data for 1 year at no cost.

I got it for myself and my gf she has 5 lines (6gb) I have 6 lines (12gb)

so now she has : 7GB , I have 13.

Never really had problems with coverage with either carriers, so I would save money and go with AT&T.

Hopefully it's easy to get that promotion. Not really getting anything useful out of the new "more" plans this would at least be a nice thing to make use of.

go to my profile I just made a thread and there are screenshots it's not hard.

Just gotta talk with the rep that knows what he/she is talking about

Thanks for the details. Going to give it a shot.

Let me know what happens!

make sure not to confuse the rep with the more everything upgrades from 500 MB to 1GB and 2GB to 3GB that is different.

Just called, waited about 15 minutes, basically mentioned hearing about the promotion, the agent said he'll check to see if I qualified (not sure how much qualification there really is), said that I do (based on being with VZW for a long time and having a good payment history, but, again, not sure how much that really plays into it), and applied the promotion (set to expire a year from today).

He also mentioned that you can basically call every once in a while and check to see if there are promotions that might exist that would apply to your account and that could be added. Not sure if every agent would be as quick/forward to really check on all that and give you all the promotions that are applicable, but supposedly you can ask when you call in every once in a while.

Thanks again for the details about all of this. It's not a huge thing, but certainly helps given that the new "more" plans don't really help out as far as more data or better pricing those who are with 4 GB or more of shared data.

I agree. If you stay in an area where AT&T or other carriers are comparable then by all means go to someone cheaper. Those who travel enough to need broader, more comprehensive LTE coverage everywhere they go will continue to choose Verizon until the other 3 catch up.
