AT&T store experience
Today on the way home from work I stopped by my local AT&T store. I've decided with 3G coming to take the plunge and get the iPhone family plan for myself, my wife and daughter. At the same time, I wondered if AT&T could bundle other services with it at a discount (such as home internet and TV).
The lone AT&T rep in the store seemed pleased to see me. I said that I was interested in talking about the various plans for the iPhone. The rep immediately stiffened up and replied, "I'm sorry. We don't carry the iPhone anymore. You have to go to the Apple store."
I expressed puzzlement at that. I said I didn't want to buy the iPhone itself; I just wanted to talk about plans available and whether AT&T could bundle other services with it. Again the rep replied, "We don't deal with the iPhone, sir. You'll have to go online to find out what services are offered."
Then he pulled a phone from under the counter and said, "Instead, we have this really nice phone we just got in, made by LG." (I'd never seen the LG knock-off before. I was surprised how narrow it is.) I told him that I was only interested in the iPhone, and his response was that he couldn't help me; I had to go online.
😕
EDIT: I just called AT&T and spoke with a sales rep. It was surreal. I told the rep what I was looking for and his response was, "Yes sir, we can certainly help you with that. Have you seen the new LG phone?" I told him I had. He said, "It's really nice and it's just like the iPhone." I told him that I wasn't interested in the LG. He asked why I wanted the iPhone. I told him, "The iPhone will interface seamlessly with my Mac, I love the user interface, it works like a PDA plus I can watch movies, listen to music and also project slideshows when I'm doing presentations."
He respsonded without missing a beat. "Yeah, well the new LG can do most of those things, plus you can watch TV!" I just said, "Thank you," and hung up.
WTF?
