Gave it another try, with the IMEI route

My iPhone 4 was replaced a few months ago by Apple under AppleCare after it got wet. So, I knew my IMEI wouldn't be the same on my account. So, I wanted to see if by chance I could squeak in under my new IMEI. Below are the results:

Wendy : Hi, I see that you are looking to unlock your iphone.
Wendy : I will be happy to look into that for you.
Wendy : Is your number XXXXXX ?
Me: yes
Wendy : Thank you
Wendy : I will verify that the phone is eligible to be unlocked. It will only take a few minutes.
Wendy : I am sorry but the phone is not eligible to be unlocked. You are under contract until 07/05/2012.
Me: Oh well. It was worth a shot! ;)
Wendy : Yes, was there anything else I can assist you with?
Me: Can you verify that the IMEI, is XXXXXXXXXXXX?
Wendy : Is that the imei number for the phone that you are trying to unlock? So it is not the phone on the account ?
Me: Thats the phone I want to unlock
Wendy : Alright I will look at that one. One moment
Wendy : Did you pay full price for the phone?
Me: It was a replacement phone that Apple sent me when my other was damaged
Wendy : It would still be under the contract on that line and could not be unlocked
Me: But it can be unlocked when my contract runs out?
Wendy : Yes it can be
Me: ok, so there's no wiggle room on letting anybody unlock before the contract runs out?
Wendy : No sorry, the phone needs to be out of contract.
Me: OK, thanks.
Wendy : You are welcome
Wendy : Have a good night.
Me: You too

Maybe this is why mine went through. Both phones were replacements from apple and I gave them the imei's from both phones in the initial request. He asked me to confirm the imei's but never mentioned the contracts. Maybe he just saw that the imei's were not linked to a contract and put the order through.

Cant people under contract just sue in small claims court to have it unlocked? Is it possible?

Hi, I was wondering what you guys think about this: I gave a family member my old 3G. She jailbroke it and has been using it with T-Mobile. Since she's using it on T-Mobile already, is it worth getting it unlocked? Could unlocking it have an adverse effect on the phone (like bricking it) since it's currently jailbroken?

Thanks!

Really? It tells me that there are no available representatives.

Do you have an AT&T ID? If you have it should work. But I don't have an ID so it takes me to a page that I have to register and log in, but I don't have an AT&T wireless number so I can't register... :(
I don't know what to do...
Can someone that have an AT&T account unlock it for me?

Thanks, thats OK for now. Tomorrow I'll try to do it again. Or I'll probably call them.
Thank you for the help.

Looks like people who don't have a current ATT account and bought their phone from a 3rd party (via ebay, etc) are getting unlocks.

Guess I'll have to call tomorrow. Worst that can happen is that they tell me no.

If you're willing to fib a little, you might've been able to get it to go through by claiming you broke your old phone and bought this one off contract

How do think its best to go about doing this?

----------

TO THOSE WHO DIDNT GET A TICKET NUMBER:
Does anyone know if its required to have a ticket or case number? Because i didn't get one, but the representative said that he sent my iphone imei numbers for consideration for unlock to apple.. Anyone else have this? He said the specialist would contact me via phone or email... Do you think i should call again?

I don't think we'll get our unlock for sure. Yeah they opened a case file for us, but that doesn't mean they're going to unlock any of it. So we'll just have to wait and see.
