I called AT&T at around 11:00 a:m, got my 3GS unlocked by around 1:00pm.... Guy was trying to figure it out while having me on hold lol. Anyhow, at the of it all he asked me to do the restore while he was on the phone. Restored, and unlocked!!

Letting everyone know. I just successfully unlocked an iPhone 4 for another MacRumors user. I guess it is possible to unlock an iPhone that has never been used on your account. Cheers all! Happy unlocking.

If that's the case... if anyone wants to trade mutual favors, PM me and hopefully we can have similar success!

Did you just say that you had bought the phone off eBay or something?

For me i just told them i bought the phone at full price when i really didnt. They asked for my phone number, imei, email, and name. They submitted the request. They said that a specialist will call me and at that time i would have to connect my phone to itunes. The thing is is that i never got a ticket number... What is that supposed to do? is it necesary?

Hi all, I own an iPhone 4 that I bought on eBay and as some other people I'm not able to make a request on AT&T's website given that I don't have a wireless account.
I don't have any information about my phone except that it is locked AT&T, I just have the IMEI number. I guess it was bought full price but i'm not sure...

If anyone could help me in any way, it would be very nice and if I can do anything please, ask me

Thanks :)

I'm not even an AT&T customer. Should I still go through with making an "Access ID" and trying to chat with tech support?

He refused to submit for another iPhone 4 that is currentyly in use and the contract will end in June.

Don't you have to restore the phone? I think last I checked, the carrier lock settings are applied at activation, so if they have been changed, you need to restore the phone to force it to contact Apple servers to re-activate, which will now activate it as unlocked. I believe that immediately after activation iTunes should show a "Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked" before letting you proceed with the rest of setup.

yes i did the restore but itunes msg never stated the phone is now unlocked.

A quick update - Tried restoring twice as the tech reps over the phone asked me to. Nothing worked out. Tried chat this time and the rep told me that a case number has to be set and this needs to go through Apple for them to send the unlock code. He said to wait 5-7 business days to hear back from AT&T. So, I am guessing for most of us a case number has to be set and the request has to be sent to Apple. Well, good luck to all.

Can someone help me unlock my iPhone 4. I purchased it on eBay and therefore I am not a at&t customer. I tried calling at&t twice today and they cant unlock my iPhone because It is not associated with an at&t account.

Can someone help me unlock this iPhone 4. I would be willing to offer an reward for an successful unlock.

I would use PayPal I would give you $9.99
for helping me out. Can someone help me out. I am the second owner and it appears that the person that I purchase the iPhone form used it for a week and then decided to sell it. Therefore he payed early termination fee.

Thank You

I called the 611 number, requested tech support and I was immediately connected. I was asked for my imei number which I got from settings, general, about (i got that info here, thanks). I waited about ten minutes while they were looking up my case. The lady told me that she would send me an email or a text telling me what to do. I immediately got a text giving me a CM number and to expect to have it processed by April 16.

The iPhone was going to be used by my son. He immediately switched sims (his number has a simple, no data acct) and it worked. He went to his iTunes account and chose restore without back up. Everything has changed to his own music and contacts.

did anyone not received any case numbers after talking to att tech ?

I didn't. Asked them again, they said it isn't necessary. When I tried chat, they said a case number needs to be setup. Some AT&T reps have no clue what they are doing. So, try technical support through chat.
