I got one phone unlocked. Hoping that the other one would get unlocked on Monday.
Here's the history:
1. Never been an AT&T customer and never activated the phones with AT&T. Bought them at full price at an Apple Store.
2. Filed two cases over the phone on April 9, late morning EDT, and faxed purchase receipts. Resolution date given was April 17.
3. With no emails and no unlocks, filed two (more) cases over chat on April 17 since people said chat seems to be a quicker option.
4. Called a couple of times after the deadline and was told by CSR and tech support agent that I just had to wait.
5. Got an email on April 20 for one phone that it's unlocked (with the unlock procedure). The funny part is that the case number is from April 17 (CM20120417_394xxxxx), from the ones that I filed over chat. The cases I filed over the phone on April 9 are still pending!!!
Unlock procedure:
1. Turned off the phone, switched from Gevey to carrier SIM in the normal SIM tray. No deactivation through redsn0w or a restore of the phone.
2. Started iTunes, connected the phone to boot it up.
3. iTunes showed an "error activating your phone, try later" message. Meanwhile, the phone tried activating over WiFi and seemed to have succeeded (no messages though).
4. Quit iTunes and started it again. It connected to the iTunes Store and displayed the unlock message!
The carrier name displayed is the correct one. No strange names there. Now I just have to wait for the other phone to get unlocked, even though its case number from chat is just one number greater than the previous one. At least for me, it seems like what people said about chat being quicker is true. This despite the fact that even over chat I had to get cases created, with no immediate unlocks, and also fax the purchase receipts.
Which number did you fax the proof of purchase? Did you simply write your case no on the top of the fax or some other info ?
