We still have hope

I was never an AT&T customer (got my phone off of Craigslist) and got a case number on the 9th with a resolution date by the 17th. I'm still waiting for the unlock. I just called cust. support and was told that they have been overwhelmed with similar requests, and that my request is still being processed (there a no issues holding it back) and I just need to wait a little longer.

I hope this helps others in a similar situation. We still have reason to believe that we are going to get our unlocks even though we have that sick feeling inside; we just gotta be patient.

I have the resolution date for tomorrow, i hope i can get my i4 unlocked.

first time i call over phone they told it was eligible for unlock, but they told it was given missing...wtf.

second time i call they give me a case number

3rd time i chat they said it wasn't eligible for unlock, i should try later...

i really don't understand what is goin on...

Just have to wait...

My resolution date was April 17. With no unlock and no emails, I called again today. Spoke to a CSR, gave her the case number and told her that it was way past the promised date and asked to be transferred to tech support.

It took a while for her to pull up my case and then she made some notes and transferred to tech. That took several minutes. The tech support agent I spoke to had the details of all the cases I had filed (based on the email address I guess), and she said that there was nothing she could do. She apologized and said I just had to wait until it was processed and asked me to keep an eye on my inbox and spam folders.

A tech support rep saying she couldn't help means I've used all the options I could...unless I get hold of an AT&T customer to expedite it and get it done ASAP. Any current customer ready to help out (PM me)?

If you're not an AT&T customer or have never been one, this is probably what you have to put up with. :)

i'm totally lost here, i started on 9/4 via calling the CSR they reply gave them all my information and the guy said you will hear from us before 17th he never even gave a case number, i was wondering if something goes wrong so i called again on 12th and the other guy was much nicer and filed case for me which turns out that it wasn't created by the previous rep  , and gave me a resolution data by 20th, i used the chat twice today the 1st time a lady came up with proof of purchase thing which i refuse to adapt with and left her waves her hand for air to breath, 2nd time i decided to ask for my previous case and the guy was chatting to me said that we already submitted your request to apple and it will be processed soon,

lest hope for better luck, what i've been through i figured one thing, AT&T doesn't have the skills to be an international mobile operator.

anyone received email from att that their iPhone 4 got unlocked, but when connected to iTunes, it is still locked?

hey i was just curious as to what the title of the email notification will be. If the thing comes and my computer considers it spam i will never notice it without having a clue to what the title will be.

Yes, people have. You have to read at least the last few pages of these threads to see that for some people the unlock by Apple takes effect several hours or a day after the email is received.

Is it too much to ask you to check the inbox and spam folders every single day for the next week or two? :p ;)

[P.S.: It's easier to believe that this thread would reach 1000 posts within the next three days than believe in AT&T's resolution deadlines. :D]

Finally got the unlock message for my original iPhone this morning. But my iPhone 4, the one I really wanted to unlock, is still locked.

By the way, my V1 iPhone had only its original AT&T SIM card inside. So the reports of having to have a non-AT&T SIM to get the message are not accurate, at least for this phone.

I'm just giving AT&T this weekend before calling them again. By that time, I'm fed up with this. Do not tell customers several times that the set date is definitive.

Finally unlocked

Well guys & gals,

My ordeal is finally over.
As I mentioned before, I requested my unlock on April 9th. I have never had AT&T service and got my phone through Craigslist.

Anyway, after a looooooong and suspenseful wait (and checking to see if my phone has been unlocked every 6 hours or so, like a maniac), I was just about to call into AT&T to find out what the heck was going on. But, just as I started dialing, I decided to try one more time, and sure enough, I didn't get that 'this sim is not recognized (or something like that) message that I'd been seeing all these days). However, I never got the 'successfully unlocked' message either. But 'About' section of my phone, the carrier now shows up as 'Carrier 12.0 instead of 'AT&T 12.0). Also, I never received any email from AT&T or apple.

I hope the rest of you get your unlocks soon.
It really shouldn't be this painful.

Have a great weekend.

I just got an email from ATT

They granted that my iphone 4 be unlocked. They gave me steps what to do.

I am still on contract until June 2012 (got the ip4 on launch) and I am not in the armed services

I will try restoring later when home!

My 4s got unlocked, but it still says AT&T 12.0.

MY iPhone 4 got unlocked this afternoon too. Four days later than they said but it least it's done. My faith is renewed.:)

Wonderful, I'm glad to hear that.
How do you know it's unlocked? I assume you tried a different carrier's sim card. I believe it should say Carrier 12.0 instead of AT&T 12.0, but I could be wrong.

I just got my iPhone 4s unlocked. I have an AT&T account and I submitted the request April 8th through chat.

Did you pay an early termination fee?

No, But when I purchased the phone i paid $649 for the 64GB model. I explained it to them that I did not get the phone fully subsidized but instead got a $200 discount. Not really sure how i got that discount though.

Thats good news, will try calling in the morning..Were you straight with them about not being a customer though?

It's past the 16th and I never got the confirmed email... and the tech chat is telling me that unlocks are only for current customers? That is unnacceptable.

Well my resolution date was supposed to be on the 17th, but still haven't been unlocked. I originally called them on the 9th.

I called AT&T again today to see whats up. I tell the rep my story, and she transfers me to their tech department. They say that my unlock should be going through, but they're swamped with requests at the moment. They say to wait.

I guess I'll just play the waiting game... :(

(I am not an AT&T customer. Never was.)

i filed my request yesterday that is 20th April! and i have to wait till 30th april!! thats not fair man! Moreover the rep said that there is no guarantee that it will be unlocked or not after 30th:/ i chatted with other rep and he said that its eligible for unlock and will be unlocked by 30th! this is so confusing man!

I waited 12 days before they unlocked my 4S. It's really case to case basis on how long it will take. I guess mine took longer because I had to fax over my proof of purchase. When I called and spoke to tech support, he read the information sheet in regards to iPhone Unlocking and pretty much he told me that if they ask you to provide a proof of purchase. That they have to inform the customer that it will take up to 14 days.

Funny things happen to people who wait...

I got one phone unlocked. Hoping that the other one would get unlocked on Monday.

Here's the history:
1. Never been an AT&T customer and never activated the phones with AT&T. Bought them at full price at an Apple Store.
2. Filed two cases over the phone on April 9, late morning EDT, and faxed purchase receipts. Resolution date given was April 17.
3. With no emails and no unlocks, filed two (more) cases over chat on April 17 since people said chat seems to be a quicker option.
4. Called a couple of times after the deadline and was told by CSR and tech support agent that I just had to wait.
5. Got an email on April 20 for one phone that it's unlocked (with the unlock procedure). The funny part is that the case number is from April 17 (CM20120417_394xxxxx), from the ones that I filed over chat. The cases I filed over the phone on April 9 are still pending!!!

Unlock procedure:
1. Turned off the phone, switched from Gevey to carrier SIM in the normal SIM tray. No deactivation through redsn0w or a restore of the phone.
2. Started iTunes, connected the phone to boot it up.
3. iTunes showed an "error activating your phone, try later" message. Meanwhile, the phone tried activating over WiFi and seemed to have succeeded (no messages though).
4. Quit iTunes and started it again. It connected to the iTunes Store and displayed the unlock message!

The carrier name displayed is the correct one. No strange names there. Now I just have to wait for the other phone to get unlocked, even though its case number from chat is just one number greater than the previous one. At least for me, it seems like what people said about chat being quicker is true. This despite the fact that even over chat I had to get cases created, with no immediate unlocks, and also fax the purchase receipts.

ya i was going to do that until i checked my spam folder for the first time. There is no way in hell I'm going through the hundreds of spam emails i get each day o_0.

On a side note does anybody know if i have to put my new sim card in before i get the email?
