**** you, AT&T.

Please leave this site. If you remember anything about iOS' history, you would know that you're undeniably wrong. iOS removed PdaNet from the App Store at the request of telecoms. iOS imposes download limits for apps due to telecoms. Steve Jobs has nothing to do with this and you sound like an idiot for bringing him up. Your logic is bad and you should feel bad.

dude ... look up the word "meme". "steve wouldnt have allowed this" is like "safari feels snappier" its just a meme. chill ;)

Decisions, decisions...

Decisions, decisions... I would like to keep my unlimited plan. However, restricting a loyal customer in order to try and get an extra dime out of them isn't right. I'm seriously going to consider switching over to Verizon.

Why would you do such a thing? Is it saving you money?

Its funny reading the ignorance on this board whenever AT&T is in the headlines. Anyone notice that the AT&T Plans are CHEAPER than Verizon? And by the way, my $290 plans (phone and tablets) with 3 iphones and 3 tablets will now be under $200, so YES, it will save money and give unlimited voice, free tethering, and unlimited texting.

You people need to read, investigate for yourself before you run at the mouth about stuff you do not understand.

THANK GOD!!!!! This move is incredibly wise and even if the price of the plan may be higher for individuals, the ability to use this feature at no extra charge will be well worth it.

Jokes on you, you won't be able to, nor I. They don't have the grandfathered plans provisioned on their LTE service. I know, I tried already. I had a grandfathered 3G data card from around 2002, and the wouldn't let me upgrade to LTE for this reasons. They said it was impossible for a grandfathered plan to be used with their LTE service, or any type. Their the guys even gave me a device to test, and sure enough, it just doesn't work. So, when the LTE iPhone comes out, I'm pretty confident there won't bra grandfathered unlimited plan anymore. Hello Sprint.

Did you ever take a look at the coverage map? Only 53 markets are even being serviced right now. How could they move you to LTE when over half of the population can't even get it's service?

Apple makes a fat profit, well above industry average, on almost everything they sell. Yet the moment AT&T makes any move regarding pricing, people get all emotional.

If you cannot afford the price to operate your smartphone, it's time to learn how to budget.

Perhaps a pre paid feature phone is more your style :)
Why pay the big bucks to AT&T, Randall Stephenson and AT&T shareholders (like me) when you can pay less to Straight Talk, Carlos Slim and America Movil shareholders (like me) and still connect to the same cell towers?

:D

$40 just for voice? in 2012? :eek::confused::eek:

i could never afford an iPhone let alone a plan in the US lol

i pay $35 for unlimited voice, 2.000 text (never use those) and data incl. tethering

Sneaky way to force people who want this to drop their old unlimited plan. Doubt they will though. Also, this is a stupid, stupid obvious statement:

"FaceTime will continue to be available over Wi-Fi for all our customers."

Uh, no crap AT&T. Anyone can do this even without a cell plan.

For all you saying you will jump to Sprint make sure you check with others what kind of bandwidth they are getting. In Milwaukee, most places I can barely stream AM quality radio so unlimited or not, facetime will not work until they get their act together and upgrade the network here. There are tons of threads out there in many cities of people experiencing the same thing. Their network is woefully under-developed.

Yeah it's highway robbery. I get good service and I've been with AT&T for 12 years do I am reluctant to switch carriers. I'm still under contract anyway.

Not always true. In my circumstance I will save with verizon's family data plan.

I only came to ATT for the iPhone, but when both carriers are compared, Verizon is cheaper over all for me.

This strikes me as a Net Neutrality issue and needs to be fought or it will set a bad precedent. Data is data: AT&T must not be allowed to discriminate against what type of data we use on its cellular network for the sake of squeezing more money out of the consumer.

The T-Mobile 1900 MHz refarming can't come fast enough...

My current month of prepaid ends tomorrow. I'm tempted to jump to T-Mobile.
My only concern is the buzzing in my speakers... EDGE is fast enough to stream 107.7 the End and the other stuff I use. Hopefully TMo 3G is available in Spokane by the time I get a Facetime-capable iPhone.

The real question is why does apple allow cell carriers to dictate whats "acceptable" data to use? I really wish they'd just block the carriers ability to determine if you are tethering, FaceTime, etc. What's next Messages?

I think the next phone may be the one I buy an unlocked phone and go the prepaid route. I've been able to get by with the $15 250mb data plan with AT&T. Between work and home with wifi, I can get by. However, if I'm going to pay $30 a month for data, I want enough to stream music regularly. I'd keep my iPhone 4, but the battery life has slowly decreased over the last couple of years.

It's easy to say you are jumping to another carrier, but if the other carrier's coverage sucks in your area, you are only hurting yourself.

I plan to pay full price for the next gen iPhone. Want to be able to switch sims when traveling.

For those that are saying that the only way to keep unlimited data with the next phone is to pay full price, can you provide a link to this information? (Hoping it is true, but afraid that it is not).

Thanks for the info! So much for the "shared" in shared data plan, huh?

No prob! Yeah I mean I have no device to share the data with! My iPad 2 is wifi only and my iPod touch is wifi only also obviously. I am single and no one in my family besides me has AT&T either so idk. Lame.

If it's my data, I can use it however I want. It shouldn't matter if I'm getting emails, streaming music, using Facetime, tethering, or watching a 2 hour porno. If I go over my limit, you charge me anyway. It shouldn't be restricted to new plans, and is a shameless attempt at getting everyone to give up their unlimited data.

Except from an interference-with-others standpoint, it matters very much whether you're checking email (low-data-flow activity) or streaming video (high-data-flow activity) Frankly, it matters a lot more to other users the RATE at which you're using data than it does how much data you use per month. That's why cable companies (used to) charge by the rate, not the monthly usage. (Of course, now they have data caps, but that's more about stifling competition from the likes of Hulu and Netflix than actual technical issues.)

Yeah, and read this:

A rather commonplace theme per VictorWI. Sprint may offer unlimited data, but they often don't deliver it very quickly.
