Dude...it's a $199 phone...they've already somewhat proudly admitted the back was plastic....so what do you think the screen is made of?? C'mon, man!!

When you hold it in your hands, unlike the 1st gen, it's gonna actually feel like a cheap plastic phone lol

So i assume by the way you wrote it that you already KNOW how it will feel right??

As a couple others have mentioned, it would be nice if we still have the option of the Edge service and the $20 pricing. Hawaii doesn't have 3G at all and it will probably be 15 years before anything other than Honolulu has 3G.

So, the 3G plan buys me absolutely nothing, except MAYBE once every couple years, IF I travel to the mainland, and to a place that has 3G?

Right now a 1st gen iPhone has a LOT of value for a lot of people because it does everything a 2nd gen does, except GPS. AND, it comes with a rate plan that saves you $120-$180 a year.

Remember, us 1st gen folks get exactly the same software that the 2nd gen guys get. That, in my opinion, is pretty darn cool. 1st gen iPhones are anything but outdated, in fact they are desirable for many.

Have you seen the coverage maps?

It seems that almost the entire island of which Honolulu is located on has 3g coverage at the moment, and the other islands are getting it as well.

AT&T Question:

Is it possible to purchase the iPhone without the voice plan, and only with data?

hey GUYS i have a new question that has never been asked:

CAN I NOT HAVE THE DATA AND JUST DO VOICE PLAN?

I wish I owned the collections company ATT uses at this point. Everybody wanting the latest and greatest and biting off more than they can chew. Now we'll see the iphone everywhere. Same thing that happened with the Blackberry Pearl.

quick questions

1. What are the family plan prices?

2. Is data "tethering" allowed? I maybe could justify the data bill if I could drop my home internet service.

the biggest thing that gets under my skin is the outrageous price for unlimited texting. i don't use a ton of daytime minutes but i text like a madman. att knows they can bank in on this and there are those that have to pay the extra 30 or else an extra dime or however much per extra message with a lower plan and pay 100+ in extra txts.

If I were AT&T I would HATE to have you speaking on my behalf.

Good luck with it, though. You are making a lot of peoples point.

Thanks - D

not like if i would have lied yall would think they are any better lol.

at&t will literally hire anybody sometimes, "oh i see you flipped burgers for 3 months, would like a job selling phones??" i hate it.

i am one of the few reps that is honest and tells it like it is and is actually willing to help anyone who wants it... i have like 12 stories people have PM'd me asking questions and i read/explained everything they needed to know.

Wait a few days - or until July 11th to find the answer for this question. No one knows yet. I'm guessing no since you couldn't with the original iphone. But why get iphone 2 then? Just score a cheap iphone 1 on ebay and rock that unlocked.

question for cWeems

Hey cWeems,

I can't seem to find any literature about this on the AT&T site but if 3G is not offered in my area, can I pay for the lesser EDGE-only data plan? Seems stupid to pay top dollar for a service I can't even take advantage of...

lol any other carrier would do the same if they had the iPhone...

y is everyone on here calculating their bills over a 100 year period...

what ever happend to carpe diem?!?!?!? jus live life and stop worrying about your stupid money!

Is this... a joke post?

There calculating it over a 2 year period (length of contract)

Yeah, just forget were in or close to a recession and that the iPhone a luxury item and just throw all our money around blindly.

how much commission does a rep make from an iphone sale? maybe it wouldn't be a bad temp job to make a quick buck.

whether its an iphone or a reg phone it doesnt matter, we just get payed based on the rate plan and features on the acct... it wouldnt matter if u got the $1 phone or the 3G iphone to us ;)

ok if someone is thinking that far ahead about $10 then y dont they just get the free phone that is offered?? ANY one in here, and i guarentee ANYone, can find other luxuries or driving that cuts down way more than jus $240 over a two year period.

Hey, no kidding! I could literally swear I looked at the map on their web site just days ago and saw no 3G coverage out here, but the more likely answer is that I made some type of error (sad- because that would make me a real idiot.)

The map you linked to actually doesn't show the island I live on, but as I go to att.com now, I see that we have nearly full coverage! Now that is impressive, as we're about as rural as it gets.

***scratches head***

Wait....

The last time i checked, I was using my Nokia N73 last year on 3G for Free...

Why is it now $10 a month?

unfortunately the only data plan that seems to be available is the $30 UNL data for the 3G iPhone... the case is the same for anyone who purchases any other one of our 3G devices and lives outside the 3G network, still $30 UNL pda plan.

it is a good point though and would be a good idea, heres one reason it wouldnt work... u want lesser pricing cause u would essentially be transferring less data on the EDGE network, but where is that breaking point? there could be very heavy edge users, and also very light 3G users. somone could live in a 3G area w/ a 3G device and consume less data than an EDGE user. Too many variables in there and there would always be someone unhappy :(

EDIT: the point was we basically cant force the guy w/ 3G to pay more just because he lives in a 3G area even if he doesnt use it to its full potential, while someone on EDGE out there could run their data through the roof. whew

Thanks for the response. Yeah, that's what I figured. Bummer. Now, what is absolutely mind-boggling to me is that there is a couple hundred acre patch of 3G coverage in the UNPOPULATED mountains about 20 miles east by southeast of me that has 3G coverage according to the coverage map at att.com. Undoubtedly where I live (Charlottesville, VA) is a smallish market but Waynesboro (a town on the other side of the mountain) has coverage and I'd argue they're even smaller. I dunno what gives there. I wish I had a definitive priority list of their so-called top 300 markets they're rolling 3G out to.

yea that stinks... well i can definately tell you they are pushing the 3G expansion hard, they are constantly implementing it to more and more towers more than ever now. and im sure with the release of the 3G iphone apple is pushing at&t to expand that network.

the best thing u could do is call into customer service, ask them about it and complain about it (in a nice way :p) and maybe do it a few times till they submit a ticket on the matter. and spread the word in your area for others who want it to do the same...

you know at&t's ultimate goal would be to have it everywhere obviously, but they prioritize according to demand(y its based in major cities first). so create some demands!!!
