Correct. Which means you still have to buy the phone when you get to the store, as supposed to just picking it up. Reserving the phone just gives you a chance to purchase one over the guy who just walk in and tried to buy having never reserved one. You still have to wait on line, you still have to set up your ATT info, you still have to deal with "first come first serve".

Why would the in app confirmation specifically say "Your product will be available until the end of the day"?

Went in at noon, there were only a few people there. Asked if they were still accepting pre-orders and the girl said yes. Started giving her my info and she said that "You're lucky - about 25 people were waiting online when we opened and when we let them in to pre-order our servers went down. You're only the 3rd person that has been able to pre-order today". I pre-ordered 2 16GB.

So if you're in North Jersey - go to the AT&T store in Fort Lee!

=)

I was there. Waited an hour. Left my info there. Waiting for rep to call. I should have hung around. An entire day dealing with this pre order crap. Ive been up since 5am:mad:

Finally

After trying for most of the day, I finally succeeded. Iphone 4 pre-ordered and my confirmation email in my inbox. Going through the AT&T website was what finally worked for me.

I was finally able to get my order submitted through the ATT webpage. I only got the Apple store past the account confirmation page once and then it just promptly failed anyways.

Through ATT you do not have the option for in-store pickup - which I would have preferred. Oh well. Heres to hoping I actually get it on the 24th. But I'm not going to hold my breath.

Most all will be forgiven if preorders over the next few days go better online AND they still have remaining stock for launch day home delivery. My fear, and what keeps me clicking refresh, is that by the time the preorder system is running smoothly they will no longer have stock for a launch day delivery.

It's a phone and I suppose it won't kill me not to have it day 1, but I skipped the 3GS and feel like I have been waiting for this for "2 years" already. Not to mention I have been pretty loyal to Apple with a current stable of 2 iMacs, 1 Macbook, 1 iPad, and 2 iPhones.

I also would like an answer on WTH happened with the white iPhone, there is clearly more to the story since you don't go from Steve Jobs announcing the white would be available in 2 weeks to "later this summer" 8 days later.

To all you guys telling us to use the Apple Store App: You do know that all that is doing is possibly reserving a phone on a first-come-first-serve basis, and that it's not even checking AT&T for any of your essential information like discount eligibility or data plans?

In other words, you're going to have to wait in a line as long or longer than the one for walk-in orders and have a very good chance of not getting your phone on launch day. Of course, even if you do get in before the cutoff, you're depending on the same sh*tty AT&T servers that failed today, likely under another massive strain, with the added problem that none of your information has been ported over.

If you realize this, more power to you. If not, just know that you will be mocked mercilessly when you come here bitch and moan about it, and deserve every bit of that scorn.

What are you talking about? After trying apple.com and AT&T.com all day I just used the apple store app. Took a couple of tries but I got it to work. There is a note right in the store saying I have a phone reserved until the store closes on the 24th. I also got an email that says the same thing. Yes it skipped the At&T check but I have known for weeks I am eligible for an up grade so I don't care.

If you know you are up grade eligible use the app.

I have to say what started as a simple 3 minutes process to reserve my phone (or so I thought) has turned into an all-day crusade of angst and disbelief that companies can still be having this kind of issue in 2010.

Whenever I think of AT&T I just picture them having banks of ladies plugging phone lines into the wall like they did for long distance back in the 50's.

I'm disgusted. The whole thing is unacceptable. Been up since 5am trying to get one. Still without. Sick.

Some of you people are flat out amazing to hear from. This forum has been taken over by a bunch of people hitting refresh all day just to say they have pre-ordered the iPhone.

I don't think I've ever been this upset with Apple.

Not for the system's servers crashing due to traffic, but because I can't even sit here for 5 hours trying to get the phone I want. We were promised the white iPhone 4, and we aren't getting it until after June 24.

After the whole debacle with the "white iPhone 4 not available," I decided on a black one with either a green or a white bumper but those won't even be delivered until July 2!

Might as well just wait for the white one and get what I actually wanted.

Has anyone who was going for a white changed their mind and pre-ordered a black?

Why would the in app confirmation specifically say "Your product will be available until the end of the day"?

Well, I hope they would ship enough phones to cover reservations and pre-orders. You still have to wait on line, pay for it and handle all of your account info at the store. Listen, I have nothing against the reserving option. If you don't mind waiting and dealing with the chaos at the store, all power to you. reserving is not an option for me as I am buying two iPhones as gifts and the people I'm getting the phones for do not wish to wait on line with me at the store so they can set up new ATT accounts. We'd rather just do it all online, so all that is left is for them to head down to the store and pick it up without having to deal with all of that.

They were not involved with mine. my 3GS is not eligible until next February, but I just reserved a 32GB for 299. The app store app is not querying the ATT servers. - at least it didnt for me, my email says that I will get one on that day explicitly too, but it doesnt have any personal information about my plan or anything, although I did type in my number, social, and zip when I 'reserved'

i did the same thing, got a confirmation email from apple, and read the fine print. i didn't like what i saw, so i cancelled the "reservation" and ordered through an ATT store in person instead. its very confusing.

by the way, the title of the email was "Pick up your reserved iphone...", and under rate plan info, it was blank. it didnt really make sense. but again, the fine print is what I didn't like. it may be worth double-checking.

I am now getting stuck at this.

So do they, plus a whole bunch more for the myriads of walkins that will happen on launch day. But you realize that they cannot predict it with 100% accuracy as of today, right?

I'm starting to think its not just an AT&T issue. Several times I have received the page that states my price and my rate plan. Then its takes me to another screen where it hangs for a while and then times out.

Best Buy and order woes

I waited up till 2am, fell asleep, and then began the ordering process at 6am. First time through on the Apple site I got all the way to the picking my plan details and then couldn't add it to my cart. Tried endlessly until the Apple Store app was released, tried for a few hours on both.

Fed up, went to AT&T store and was told they weren't ordering any and weren't sure if they were ever going to sell them (???). Trekked out to Best Buy and gave them $50 cash and wrote my name down on a photo copied sheet of paper with some bar codes on it. I have a receipt, I have a gift card, and I have a dream.

I actually had the audacity to pre-order a 32gb White...lol. We'll see what happens with that...

Try Radioshack!!!

Hey guys, i called radioshack and they took my information on the phone and they even checked my upgrade eligibility on the phone as well. You can confirm with them by getting Radioshack to give you the PIN number once the pre-order goes through: I have 2 PIN number because I reserved 2 iPhone 4. Here are my PIN numbers: 2200000033989, 2200000041164. LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS ANY LUCK CALLING RADIOSHACK AND PRE-ORDERING WITH THEM!!

I hope that SJ is on the phone with AT&T putting the fear of God in them...if he can even get through.

pre-order

I got a chance to pre-order on Apple site this morning at 2am and just went down to Radio Shack and pre-ordered too......:):):)

I tried half a dozen times on apples website with no luck, always session time out or try again later error message.

I was, I think successful with the apple store app on my current iphone, however my confirm email says a price of $699, so i'm assuming that they were unable to verify my upgrade status (because I am eligible) and will take care of that when I pick up the phone on the 24th.

Got as far as having it in my cart on the AT&T site (after I don't even know how many hours of trying) when the gateway timed out on me, dumped my shopping cart & made me start all over.

Got as far as "You qualify for the following" on the Apple site (yes, I'm trying both because one of them has to work eventually), and am now in the process of waiting for it to time out on me & tell me my session has expired due to inactivity.

At least this is "progress" ... I've gotten further than I did during the last (okay, looks) 3 hours.
