Apple vs ATT

I cannot believe I am saying this but the ATT website seems to be holding up for ordering the iPhone better than Apple's IMHO. I tried ordering from both sites last night or early this morning and then again a few minutes ago...I was finally able to do it via the ATT website. Got confirmation with order number.

So, my question is if I dont get the device on or before the 24th; can i try my luck at the Apple store and cancel this pre-order without any penalty?
 
Been trying since 10 am central time. I finally got through on apple.com. I'm having it shipped to my house. Says it will arrive on the 24th.
 
For those who have successfully ordered, did you get the tethering option/plan?

Is it worth it.

I got that far in the process (plan options), then the site died on me.:(
 
Got the same thing. This is an automated email based on the part number you ordered listing the retail price. They didn't put a link between the email system and the pricing you are eligible for. I received this same email for both my phones and a friend got the same email (who is a new AT&T customer)

O RLY?

Everyone: It's a phone -- not a kidney. It'll come. No worries.
Apple: Take the site down and fix it. Don't leave it up in a bottleneck -- it's not serving us or you very well to leave it.
AT&T: You're a communications company -- act like it. Also, please stop dropping calls (as always).

Anyone else nervous about ordering through ATT and not Apple? I ordered through ATT and it clearly stated my phone would be overnighted with deliveries starting on the 24th and then it went on to say it couldn't guarantee anything and actual delivery date could vary...
 
According to Engadget, that's exactly what they've done, removing the option to pre-order entirely and instead giving launch day store hours. I just went to store.apple.com and sure enough, no more pre-order buttons.

Hate to break it to you but the preorder buttons are still there.
 
Did it actually go through?

About twenty minutes ago I went through the process, chose the phone, selected the data plan, picked the store (no option to ship), etc. After all was said and done, I got a screen that told me "See you at the store" and to bring ID. There was no confirmation number or anything else to indicate completion. Did it go through? Is that what should have happened?
 
the relentless stupidity of ATT. They *****ing KNEW it was releasing today! Why didn't they get their head out of their ass before :mad:
 
After going through the Blizzcon ticket ordering process Apple/Att should definitely make a queue system for this.

I would rather wait multiple hours for a guaranteed ordering opportunity with no timeouts instead of this session timeout crap.
 
No Problems Pre-Ordering at AT&T Store

I walked into my local AT&T store at 12:00 today and walked out 20 minutes later with my pre-order completed. I suggest going to a store because even if they're having problems, they will input your order manually later today when things have settled down.

When I got my 3G this very same problem occurred so it wasn't that big of a surprise that there would be delays. This time was even easier and the people at AT&T were great. I'm very excited to get my phone!

Has anyone else ordered through the ATT store website successfully (got to the order confirmation page) but have not received a confirmation email?

I placed my order this morning (around 10:00 CST) but have not gotten any kind of confirmation email. When I try to check my order status on ATT's website, it says it does not recognize the order number (possibly due to the fact that it states orders within the last 24 hours may not be available). But I thought I at least should have received a confirmation email by now.


Ordered around the same time, printed out my "Thank You" page with order number and all details...but no email. Called AT&T and they don't show anything reflecting an order either. Nothing shows up on AT&T order status either...same message as you.

At this point, I've put in all the time I'm going to put into this. If it "takes", then great. If not, I'll just pursue it when all the hype dies down!
 
I think its safe to say you can't preorder today. So everybody please, stop trying. Right now!

Everybody off? All your wifi devices turned off?

Alrighty then... let's see if I can pre-order the thing now!

This is the position I'm in. I have an order number but nothing shows up online. I'll probably check it later tonight and if there's nothing I'll contact at&t and try another pre-order through them or Apple.

Did they hit you for the $18 upgrade fee on the Premier site? They did to me for some reason. I'll worry about that later. Just wanted to get my place in line.

Isn't everyone upgrading "early" getting that $18 charge? That was in my original text for AT&T saying I could get the $199 price with an $18 upgrade fee.
 
Major FAIL!!!

Still 8 hours and counting and I STILL cannot finalize a pre-order for the iPhone 4.0!There really is no excuse for this. I've been attempting place it online to no avail, I've even tried the Apple Store App......in all instances it's says I cannot place the order at this time & prompts to reserve one for store pick up.......doing that it doesn't show the discounted price but the full price. I was hoping by this afternoon they'd have this settled by now.
It's AT&Terrible's servers b/c every attempt seems to get hung up while attempting to check eligibility. :mad:

Yes I can reserve one at one of the 3 or 4 Apple stores in my area and have the hassle of waiting in lines then having to hope I get it for the $299 price but I really would not want to deal with that drama.
 
My order just went through using Apple's site for the 32GB and home delivery after trying all day. It's an upgrade order (I have 3G) on a premier account. My credit card has been charged, it shows up in my order history, but no confirmation email yet.
 
My pre-order finally just when through!! 32GB being shipped to my house for 6/24 delivery. Now I can relax...

Yes, they did hit me up for the $18 upgrade fee, so my total came to $317 for the 32GB.

For those asking about the confirmation emails, mine showed up immediately.

I got hit with the same $18 upgrade charge and I am not even in an contract. I am upgrading from the original iPhone whose contract ended sometime in 2009:mad:
