My pre-order was just successfully processed on apple.com. Only took about a thousand tries. Will be delivered the 24th.

For anyone curious, I had an active reservation at the time I placed the pre-order.

Finally got mine placed through AT&T.com too with order confirmation. I don't trust them for a second but Apple's website is useless to me.

I upgraded 2 lines and one of the upgrade fees was waived.
 
And you know everyone trying to pre-order today currently has a 12 month old 3Gs how????????

This is not my 'forth' time, it's my second. I currently have an 8 gig, 3G, I've had for to/too/two (pick one) years.

LOL You tell 'im. Grr.
 
AT&T Upgrade

I just tried to log into my online AT&T account and got this response:

Due to a system upgrade the site is temporarily unavailable, please try again later. For immediate assistance please contact customer service at 1-800-331-0500.

I really doubt the they would schedule a system upgrade on a day like this but hey, maybe it's an attempt to expand capacity right in the middle of it to alleviate problems that their chronic shortsightedness obviously missed. Another indication of the problems that could arise when everyone starts tethering, etc with their new iP4s. Just when the network started improving around here. :rolleyes:

anyone try an AT&T store?

Has anyone been able to go to a store and pre order there? I heard their computers there are down too but my friend just text me and said he pre ordered his at a store...hmmm.
 
I must have gotten lucky. I tried once at around 7:30am CST and reserved mine with no issues whatsoever.

Also, I called my Apple store, and they said if you got the email saying you reserved the iPhone, you are guaranteed one on the 24th.
 
Is that what we have to do....take it to a store for them to activate it??? That would really suck.

The majority of people, no... you don't have to take them to the AT&T store.

Unfortunately for me, AT&T screwed up my line when I added my wife (then fiancee) to my account, making her the primary line and me the secondary. In order to qualify for the phone, I entered her number on the Apple website. I'll need AT&T to switch it over before activating, otherwise her current SIM (and iPhone 3GS) will stop working.

Looks like if you want a sure fire way of screwing something up, you give the job to either AT&T or BP.
 
Seems to be working now. Just pre-ordered two for in-store pickup. I am an existing customer replacing existing phones. Used Apple's site. :D

UPDATE: I did NOT pre-order my phones, i reserved them!!! The process on Apple's site actually failed, and a message on the left of the screen said so. But on the right side of the screen, it gave me an option to pick the store where I wanted to pick up my phone. I went right into that without realizing that was for RESERVATIONS not for PRE-ORDERS. If you did not enter credit card info, then you did NOT pre-order, you just reserved.
 
I finally got through after trying all day on Apple's site. First I wouldn't make it past the AT&T verification screen. Then it would and show me I was eligible for the subsidized pricing. Then it wouldn't make it past that screen. I had to try multiple times then the iPhone would end up in my cart but the order wouldn't process. Finally got everything to go through and I have received my confirmation email from Apple.

I had a reservation at the Easton store but not needed now. Thank God that whole nightmare is over with.

The process seems to be getting better. I can actually advance a few options on Apple's site now. I still get hung up at the very end "processing information" just hangs and hangs.
 
I finally was able to pre-order.

One surprise that I was not expecting - they will ship to your AT&T billing address ONLY.
Not sure if that was the case last time around.

Luckily, my wife works from home or it would be basically pointless to pre-order and then not be home to sign for it.

Yes. It is getting info from the AT&T servers. I just ordered two for in-store pickup and it knew that one was eligible for the $299 price and one wasn't. It must of talked to AT&T to know that.
 
I had my order go through on apple, but I have yet to get an email. I also had one reserved at the Soho store, but I canceled it.

Same thing happened to me...

Pre-ordered my first one this morning and I picked a plan, gave my apple ID, etc. Finally got in to reserve my wife's phone and it was just like you explained. I'm not very confident, however...
 
anyone else successfully (or at least I thought it was) complete an iphone pre-order thru AT&T's site and then receive and order cancellation email a couple of hours later? Here's what it says:

"Unfortunately, we were either unable to verify the information you provided or you have exceeded the number of lines of service that we allow customers to purchase online. As a result, your order has been canceled."

WTF?
 
Finally!

It took a while but I was finally able to order a 32GB iPhone 4 from the Apple Store. I've been at it, off-and-on, since 10 AM PT but it seems like ordering from the Apple Store is your best bet right now (I can log in to my AT&T Wireless account but I cannot "upgrade" my current phone). Anyways, my new iPhone 4 is scheduled to arrive at my house on June 24th.

For those of you wondering, if you're an existing iPhone customer with an unlimited data plan (EDGE/2G or 3G) you will see the unlimited data plan listed for $30/mo as an option when selecting your data plan.

For us poor schmucks living in California, we have to pay sales tax based on the full price of the phone ($699 x 9.25% = $64.66 sales tax... ick!) so my total came to $363.66. Seeing how I was going to upgrade to a 3GS back in April, I'm kind of glad I waited.

Edit: Forgot to add, I don't see the AT&T $18 upgrade fee. Maybe it got waived, maybe it didn't. At this point, it doesn't really matter.
