is that for jailbroken phones? I couldn't find it in the appstore(TM)

update: I found it on a site for downloading android apps. Perhaps you have an android phone?

Anyway looking at that site made me realize that I'm glad I don't have to deal with that. The site I found was amateurish looking and made me think it would be risky to use it in terms of potential viruses. The reviews from downloaders also confirmed what i suspected about apps for multiple platforms. There were many comments about the particular app not working on a particular device (ex - a samsung tablet) but working on another. What a headache it must be to keep those apps functioning with new devices from different manufacturers popping up all the time.

My bad. It isn't the coleco version it is simply called LED Football. Pretty much the same thing though.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

Awesome. Some might be Coleco exclusives, but I'd probably buy these if available:

Burger Time
Frostbite
Keystone Kapers
Mouse Trap
ZaxxonRiver Raid
Empire Strikes Back
Carnival
Centipede
Kool-Aid Man (lamest game i can remember, but so funny)
Venture
Donkey Kong Jr
Bumper Jumper
Yar's Revenge
Frogger
Missile Command

Zaxxon was a great game!

Frogger was Konami, however it was licensed to just about everyone at the time. Or so it seemed.
Missle Command is included in this Atari release isn't it?

$17.99 in Australia although $1 AUD = $1.05 USD... I'm getting sick of this! Not only is our dollar worth more, but we pay more too... the 2 just compound on each other.

What a farce!

Wasn't Stargate (Defender) better? Also, help me out- were those Midway, and if so, did Atari own them?

How on earth would you play Defender on an iPad? Even with the iCade, it doesn't have enough buttons, does it?

I guess everyone who works for MacRumors downloaded this app and then took the rest of the day off to play it...no posts in 4 hours...:(

Defender is from Midway Games and they're under Liquidation now:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midway_Games

Maybe Atari should buy their games?

William's Electronics originally made Defender before Midway bought them up. Stargate was the sequel (later renamed Defender II for legal reasons I've heard)

William's games were my favorite with Joust and Robotron (as well as their "High Speed" pinball) at the top of the list.

FWIW, back in the 80's, Midway, Williams, Atari and to a lesser degree, Stern and Tatio dominated the US arcades. Nintendo joined with Donkey Kong but I don't remember them being as big as the 1st three until their "vs'" series came out which allowed head-to-head play.

If these games are all Atari, you're not going to see Defender on the list.

The Bally/Midway division of Bally was purchased and reincorporated in 1988 by the arcade and pinball game company Williams Electronics Games through its holding company WMS Industries Inc.

Scroll down to the games list...

Plus, Defender is on all my Midway Games Compilation Discs for PS2, GameCube, XBox, etc...

Seems to - iCade has 6 (plus 2 for 1/2-player)

Dang! That is true.

Thinking it out:
Stick = Up/Down
Bottom Red = Reverse
Right-Botton Black = Thrust
Right-Top Black = Fire
Top White = Smart Bomb
Bottom White = Hyperspace

On Stargate you could assign one of the others to the Stealth mode button too.

They NEED 2 versions of iCade - one with joystick, the other with a Trackball and Knob... ;)

100% agree. I've seen some of those self contained TV video games that are basically a joystick with RCA cables coming out the back that have a combo joystick & paddle - the joystick rotating to be the paddle. Never tried it though. (I think it was the Pole Position one.)

But not being able to spin the knob on Tempest looses some of the nostalgia for me too.

I'm just not an old-school gamer I guess. These games don't look particularly interesting or good.

Come on now. Other than a VERY select few, Atari games are terrible and don't hold up at all.

Word to the wise: if you don't get it, don't pipe up and let everyone know. Just keep your mouth (or keyboard) shut

First impressions

My kids (ages 9 and 4) and I have been playing with some of the arcade games and the general consensus so far:
  • Centipede: Pretty impressive how usable the trackball is, not perfect but workable
  • Crystal Castles: Realy needs a trackball - simulated one is far too inaccurate
  • Tempest: Very good, but if they somehow were to allow the Griffin PowerMate to work with it I'd be in heaven!

Why is this getting more positive votes? I thought people who come here don't like good news like the previous stories? /s :rolleyes:

That game list takes me back. I remember getting an Atari 5200 for Christmas and spending plenty of time playing Missle Command, Breakout, Centipede etc... Even though I moved on to Nintendo the 5200 remains one of my favorite game consoles. Wish I still had it today.

The controllers are really needed.

IMHO:
The Atari Joystick is the best video game controller of all time.
The trackball is a must for playing games like centipede or millipede.
And playing breakout or kaboom without a paddle controller is not the same.

As mentioned above the iCade has to include a trackball.

Maybe a bluetooth adapter could be used to use the old controllers?

I hope that Activision also release their games.

Where is Space Invaders?

After a short stint in Hollywood with success in the '70's, this out of work actor was hired by Atari for sound effects! :D:D:D

25-30 years ago those were cool, even considered cutting edge, but compared with what is on the app store now, the Atari games suck. I'll pass. Not even worth 99 cents.
