Atomic billet aluminum Ip4 case

wow im getting confused now

so this is what i understand so far. there will be 2 options:
1. All aluminum with the rubber pinstripe liner inside it
2. Composite case: Delrin + Aluminum cap

I was hoping there'd be something like an all aluminum outside with thin delrin running along the inside. I guess it doesnt matter that much, but then this isnt what many of us have been waiting for: an all aluminum outside bumper. Delrin is fine, but I dont think it gives the same aesthetic effect as anodized aluminum.

Think you have it right as far as the offerings. While I will admit the delrin/graphite composite definitely doesn't look like aluminum, it's a pleasant look on its own. For those who like the "matte" finish (I know that the matte vapor cases, for example, were big sellers), it's a great option. More important to me is that it still maintains the general look of the aluminum case without any of the signal drop.

I've been using the phone all weekend in the case, and haven't had any signal issues (none beyond what I normally have in my area anyway). I iwll be in my office tomorrow where I have a microcell: will be interesting to see if there's any drop off when under the most ideal of circumstances.

Well, I've not seen the AR15v in person (element has not seen fit to let me buy a case from them yet ;p )...but from what I can tell in the photo it looks similar, other than that "4th side" being aluminum instead of the same material. To give a better idea of what the delrin side looks like, here is an image of a delrin shift knob. The case itself isn't quite that "dark" looking as it's still a graphite/delrin mix...but the finish is similar, sortof that flat black:

Apparently the delrin is going to make the cost of the cases go UP. I've been talking with Unni from Atomic, and he is saying that it's about 10 days until they are ready to sell the delrin hybrid cases, and that the manufacturing cost is MUCH more per sheet. That tells me that the pricing will go up as well. They are apparently also working on some brushed aluminum backplates in various colors, according to him. This is all the info I have on those backplates so far.

So far its looking good. Not sure if you saw my vid review but its out there. I'm a lot happier with this than I was with the all aluminum one, that much I can tell you!!!

The aluminum version is, from what Unni told me, in it's final state as-is: basically designed for those who live in ideal reception areas. They have cut outs on the side, however for those of us in mediocre to lousy reception, even that unfortunately did not get it done.

While I've gone back to my body glove daily use case, I used the composite for around a week and a half to two weeks straight and didnt see any reception, wifi, or GPS issues - it still maintained the "Frame" style look of the all aluminum cases, but without the "oh crap your phone is now a paperweight" effect.

And for those who are curious, I went back to the other style case simply because it's more convenient for connecting to accessories: even those that don't fit the case, on my daily use case I can just pop the bottom off without having to worry about allen screws. Overall though, of the cases I've tested (atomic, exo5 and 6, and a couple of others) the composite is the only "aluminum style" case that didn't cause some major reception snafus.

According to what Unni said when I talked to him last night, it should be by Friday of this week. The only thing that stinks is that it's going to cost even more than the all aluminum version.

As far as price goes, Unni has said the hybrids will start at $80. Apparently there will be other options that can push the price up. They are working on a new aluminum back piece as well, maybe the higher priced options will include that.

From everything that I have heard this case doesn't have any problems. Most of the case is composite and by everything I have seen and read it has no impact on the signal, gps or anything. So I am going to give it a go.

I have had the Atomic Billet Aluminum Case on my iphone 4 for one month. I previously had the iFrogz case for approximately the same period of time. There is a serious problem with signal attenuation once you install this aluminum Faraday cage on your iphone, despite the advertising hype to the contrary.My Wife's iphone 3 consistently had 3 bars when I could only get 1. I experienced dropped calls and inability to log on to the Internet as recently as this afternoon. After supper this evening, I removed the Atomic Billet Aluminum Case and watched as the signal strength went from 2 to 4 bars in seconds! If you want to be truly disappointed with your new iphone 4, by all means buy this case. I will sell mine to anyone on this Forum for $25.00.
