Sucks if thats true. My order also turned to pending shipment today. Ordered a week ago or so and said backordered till today.
Just an update, yes is overnight and it should be here today.
My gf iPhone is the same storie as mine but order on the 28, just went off backorder no shipping info.
It never said it was on back order...just gave me the 2-3 week leadtime from the first day and was only processing until yesterday when pending shipment was added.

I go right to the AT&T site and log in as I already have an account with them and just click on the order status page. My order automatically comes up. Have been checking it regularly this week.

I used the regular site and it didn't say that until yesterday though...just checked the order status page you are showing and both the phone and sim say pending shipment, but today was the first day I saw that page.
Okay so as many others have said, It's time for me to stop stalking this thread and give some feedback. Ordered on the 9/30/12 and just went off back order

My Gf order went off backorder around 330am, today. Ordered on the 28.
I also ordered 9/28 32gb white and I was off BO yesterday around 12:51pm. Right now, I'm waiting for the shipping info. Don't know though how long it would take before it get shipped. I hope we get our iPhone soon, esp. the ones who ordered before us.
In other exciting world news I'm still BO. I betcha they're gonna push all the orders to at least the day the said was the soonest we'd get them just to prove they can.
My guess is the 32 and 64 cost more so apple wanted to make sure those were taken care if ASAP as not to lose the higher profit. But 16 is the most popular and highest demand so I would think they'd bump up production on those just a bit. I keep wondering how many customers have actually said screw it and canceled their order with att to move on to other providers. I think the only thing that kept me from it is my grandfathered unlimited data on mine and hubby's primary phones.
This would have been handled better of Steve was still around.... Just sayin

-Tracking information appeared on the AT&T website at around 10/1 9pm - 11:30pm ET.
-Received AT&T's email saying that my order had shipped on 10/2 7:40am ET.
-Received my phone at 5pm ET.

I ordered my 16g on 9/29. It said "processing" for a couple of days and now it has changed to "pending shipment". Does that mean its still going to be 14-21 days or could it be sooner possibly??
Checked mine on the page that doesn't show the backorder status and it now shows "pending shipment" under tracking number too which wasn't there yesterday.

I ordered from premier on the 17th it was on backorder until at least 3 days ago. Since then its been pending shipment. I contacted AT&T and they said it will be 14-21 days and had no other info.
I found it interesting that the guy at the AT&T store said people ordering the 32 and 64g phones were getting them within a few days. 16g people are having to wait 14-21 days for shipment....arghhh
A lot of you that are still waiting might want to try the apple store. I went to about 5 at&t stores and one told me they would put me on a list but i might not receive it till November. At around 10:30pm that night i remembered that the apple site updates at 10 and got my iphone at 1am that same night.

Yup, knew it was too good to be true The My Orders on AT&T's website is misleading - the correct link you nice people provided shows still on BO. Also been checking my credit card, charge still pending. I wrestled with ordering in the first place, knowing at some point I could walk into a store and buy one. How much of a hassle would it be to buy in store and cancel the order regarding my upgrade? Anticipation sucks lol!

Exactly. I would have done that if it weren't for ordering through our business acct.
It's not a big deal to me, I can wait for a phone but I kinda wanted it before I go on vacation. I use my phone for taking a lot of photos and video and I am currently using a 3GS temporarily which sucks for that stuff.
I'm in the same exact boat (except i'm using a 4, not a 3GS). On a business account so I have to suck it up and wait. I leave for vacation soon and was hoping to have the 5 for picture-taking purposes.
There's still hope!
