So if I put in an order from AT&T tonight for a black 64GB what are my chances of receiving it within a week or so?

I hate to order online and they zap my card for $399. and then I sit here with my thumb up my a@@ waiting on nothing :p

Is it just a crap shoot?

When I called the largest AT&T store around here the guy said that I had a good chance of getting the 64GB as he has had a few come in since launch and they sat there for a few days as everyone is looking for the 16 or 32.

Also if you order online do they ship the phone with a random number already in it or will you have a chance to pick your number after you receive the phone?
 
I don't understand the thing with changing BO to 0 is like giving us a false hope that it will be shipped soon. I've been sitting on BO 0 for about 55 hours already and still no shipping info. :(

Off BO since 9/29. Ordered 9/14(processed 9/17) White 16GB. THERE IS NO HOPE.

I see your in Florida, if your in the Tampa area the Brandon and International Plaza stores have 16g whites in stock you can reserve online for pickup. If its not too far gone to cancel yours
 
I pre-ordered a 16GB Black on 9/17 through the att website, came off of back-ordered on 9/29, and six days later, still no shipping info. I really hope I get my phone next week.

I noticed that most people who are off BO for too long and still doesn't have shipping info usually ordered 16gb iPhones. I ordered 32gb white and read here in the forum that some of the ones who ordered the same thing got shipped out yesterday. So sad.

Yup, in Florida. G'Ville to be exact.

Unfortunately, I am stuck dealing with AT&T with my business account. They don't allow upgrade direct from Apple for whatever reason...who knows?

Thanx for the heads up though. Maybe someone here will benefit.

What AT&T store in Gainesville have the 64 black in stock?
 
I think I remember you having the same dates as me (order 9/20 processed 9/21). My 16gb black went off backorder two days ago but has yet to ship. A 32gb black that was part of the same order went off backorder at the exact same time but is already shipped and delivered.

It's a little strange to me because getting off BO means they have a phone set aside for you so why didn't it ship out?

Yep, same dates but I ordered a white 16gb. Seems like those are the ones with the most issues, NO movement whatsoever. I'm not even off BO yet, and knowing that even after that it could be days, weeks-- I'm not feeling too excited about seeing BO at 0 now. Discouraged...

So I check the FedEx tracking number this AM and it's on the truck for delivery. Hyped. Periodically checking it, then at noon I see in red: 11:30 am Delivery Exception. I'm like ok....:mad: Call them up and they say it's because there wasn't an apartment number listed on the package (bleeping ATT, I mean really, no apartment number on my billing/shipping address, come on) I'm thinking "Why didn't he just push the button for me to buzz him in?" My last name and apartment number are on the panel out front. OK whatever.

"can you tell the delivery guy to make his way back here at some point?"
"we can send a request but it's not guaranteed."
"OK great...can I pick it up tonight if he doesn't come back?"
"sure can"

Long story short he never came back and I had to drive 20 miles out of the way to pick it up so it didn't sit in a FEDEX warehouse all weekend. I mean really, I was thinking about why the driver didn't even ring the bell and it hit me. The guy pulls up. See's an apartment building (not a big one, maybe 10 units w/ a courtyard) and no apartment number on the package. Instead of walking the 10 feet to see if there is a name (there has to be, it's an apartment building) and number, the guy says screw it, i'm too lazy to do my job, and leaves. The kicker is when I actually got said package in hand, it had a "#7" hand written in big numbers over the address. So he got the call, knew he already blew it off and blew it off a second time. I mean really, I know he had a whole route w/ more packages but he for sure got the call by 12:30pm and could have swung by again. I took a day off work too so it wouldn't sit there all weekend. What a piece of work. SMH.

BUT I GOT IT AND ITS FREAKING AWESOME! NO SCRATCHES, MARKS, OR BLEMISHES!!!!!!
 
If I were to switch my order from a Black 16gb to a Black 32gb, will that start the process all over again? If it will, it might still be worth it since I only ordered on 9/30. But just curious, does anyone know?

I didn't check those areas but for the most part most stores in FL had white 16 in stock none had black ones. Check apples website and select in store pickup and it'll let you check stock

What a nightmare this has been... Ordered my black 16G i5 over phone w AT&T customer (non) service on the afternoon of the 18th. I immediately confirmed the order and that's been it... I freaking HATE AT&T! I've called in to customer service 3 times and every time it's been some customer service rep or manager lying getting caught in a lie (it shipped, cannot cancel). Really? Why hasn't my credit card been charged? Was the most recent...

What a horrid customer experience this year, I've had to wait for phones before but nothing like this with such egregious inconsistencies and for such an outsized duration!

Sorry gang, just venting here!
 
Holy hell. The status of my "pending shipment" 16gb black that went off backorder a few days ago just changed to "canceled". What...the...hell.... Getting on the phone or online chat now...

edit: Crisis averted. Just a credit card mishap that was quickly solved by the after hours customer service team. I love the after hours team. They rock.

Im thinking of cancelling my pre-order and doing the apple 10pm order. Anyone know how long it takes for AT&T to recognize the cancellation and give me back the upgrade?
 
Ahhhh...my favorite part of ordering a new iPhone...shipped on a Thursday. Actually HERE (local UPS office) this afternoon...but I won't get it until Monday until the next normal delivery...probably around 5:30 in the evening!:mad:

Im thinking of cancelling my pre-order and doing the apple 10pm order. Anyone know how long it takes for AT&T to recognize the cancellation and give me back the upgrade?

24 hours minimum I was told. But they would not give me back my upgrade. Their records were wrong and stated I wasn't ready for an upgrade for 7 months, which was incorrect. I pleaded my case to a manager and she said no- I then said fine, I'm going to Verizon, how much do I need to pay to get out of my contract and from there the conversation changed and they upgraded me. However they wouldn't let me cancel and upgrade from an Apple store or Retail AT&T store... I have to complete the transaction through customer service.

How are you all doing this then? Are you cancelling your AT&T order just in the hopes that you can get it off the Apple site later? I'm not sure I'd want to cancel my order and be screwed when there is nothing available on the Apple site. How likely is it that I would find a white 16gb to reserve for pick up?

I ordered one thru ATT on 9/29 and like everyone else I am in the waiting game. My current 2 lines are not eligable for upgrade so I opened a 3rd line to get the iphone5. I just got online a bit ago and snagged one for pickup at my local Apple store. I had to open a 4th line to do it (for the site to give me the promo price). When my iphone from ATT arrives in the mail in a few weeks the ATT guy said I can just return that phone and cancel that line. SO in the end I am still just with that 3rd line on my account...and I am switching the iPhone to my primary line and putting a non smart phone on the extra one so that I only have to pay the $9.99 a month ;o)

So tomorrow I will be doing a bit of juggling at the Apple store and AT&T store to get everything all sorted out

Yea I got sick of waiting. If you add another line you can merge your phone number I believe ;o)

I don't think Apple stores are seeing shortages, at least not the ones in the larger metropolitan areas.
