So I just got off the phone with ATT (after a long hold!). I pre-ordered over the phone around 8:45 am est on the 14th. I initially received an email that said my order would ship on 9/21.

Last night I received an email saying my order would ship in 14-21 business days and was calling ATT to cancel the pre-order this morning (to wait in line on the 21st instead). They told me the email was sent to everyone who pre-ordered and assured me that my order would ship 9/20 for a 9/21 delivery, and that anyone who ordered by 11:30 would be receiving their orders on 9/21.

Also, my order was shown as backordered on the check status page up until last night.

I didn't get an email like you got that says your order will ship in 14-21 days. Mine says I will get it on the 21st and I already got charged for the phone. So I don't know what the Rep you talked to is talking about. I ordered about 5 min after the phone went on sale on AT&T website
 
My cousin has Sprint and he was told that his phone would ship out on Friday. Not arrive on Friday. He said when he spoke to Sprint, that they were blunt and said there is a mess up with all of the carriers stock of phone pre orders for all carriers from Apple. And they would not be able to ship his phone till Friday at the earliest. So he was upset since he was one of the first to buy with Sprint. And that Sprint was saying this was a messup between Apple and all cell phone providers/carriers in the US. So the phones that were to ship to someone's house by Friday. Will not ship out till Friday. He called this morning. I thought it was interesting that he was getting similar info that i have read on this thread about AT&T.

By the way he never got an answer as to what they meant by error or mistake between Apple and its distributors or cell carriers. As to what that meant.

I don't doubt it, I am sure Apple wants as many people to purchase the phone through them and not the carrier.

By charge do you mean the full price but it says pending?
 
Pre-order remains in Attention status, with "credit card verification needed." AT&T can't handle a shipping address different from my CC billing address, I suppose. Morons.
  • Called four times on Saturday, no one was ever able to assist. "System down."
  • Called early Sunday AM, hold music for 90 minutes, no one answered.
  • Called later on Sunday, got message that they were unavailable, call back.
  • Called first thing this AM, unavailable.
  • Called a short time ago, on hold now for 20 mins and counting, with this horrid hold music that I'm going to hear in my sleep for weeks.

Plus, multiple chat attempts (can't help Premier customers) and repeated pleas on twitter to att's supposedly monitored customer care accounts. No help.

Worst. Company. Ever. I know all telecoms, and all corporations, are like this to some degree. But reading through the Verizon and Sprint preorder threads, their customers aren't being screwed over like this. AT&T is trying to break some sort of record for the worst customer service in history, I think.

So it looks like I'm going to Verizon or Apple on Friday morning, which I didn't really want to do. And it's not like I'll die if I don't get it on launch day -- though I did get the 3G, 3GS and 4 on day 1, I got the original iPhone and the 4S a couple weeks after. But I have a nice Gazelle quote on my 4S valid through October 4, and I'm leaving for a week's vacation on September 29. So if I don't have the new iPhone in hand by the 28th at the latest, I'm losing money.

Did you get through? I'm in the same boat and currently on hold (36 min and counting). I went to a store yesterday to try and get help but they said they can't verify CC info for orders placed online. I hate this company.
 
The ATT rep also told me that the iPhone's that were pre ordered from their website should be shipping out from Texas. He said there is a good chance that we will get the iPhone a day early.

I was on hold for 57 minutes earlier and eventually the call got dropped :(

**** AT&T and **** Apple for not handling this situation better! :mad:

I woke up at 1:45am Friday-Sept 14 to pre-order on AT&T site. Site went live 2:55 AM Central Standard Time. I ordered 32Gb black IP5. Order went through fast as I can type (enter Amex acct number, click on Agree T&C, enter email address for confirmation).

I go to AT&T oder status site and this is what shows. (another note: I got the email for my pre-order 5 min after I placed it. And a text message around 8AM CST saying my order being processed).

I might be able to put some minds at ease from past experience refreshing that blasted order status..if your phone shows 1 under backordered..don't worry, it changes frequently. I had one all the way up until a few days before delivery and still got it on time, a day early actually IIRC. This was for an iphone 4 launch order. I went with apple.com for the 4s to avoid ATT status related anxiety.

So it seems that as long as you get an order by the right time on Friday you get a 21st delivery date even if there are payment issues. There was a zip code mix up on my credit card, and since zip codes on CC and shipping have to match it marked my order as pending. Called a few times and finally had to have a manager manually put in my CC info and it went through. Hoping I am still on track for the 21st, all the CSR have told me I am.
 
So I am on the "in progress: pending shipment" boat.. hold on credit card for the full amount.. i called ATT and after a 2 hour hold (i work from home on mondays so i didnt mind just letting it run on speaker..) i got through to one of their foreign call centers.. after taking my web order numbers and account info, the representative told me:

"Your order already shipped. Expect it in 14-21 days".. to which I replied "My email confirmation I got on the 14th at 630am eastern says I should get it on the 21st of September"...

She replied: "oh in that case, you will get it on the 21st of september"...

Me: "but you are saying it already shipped??"

Her: "yes, on our system it is showing that both your orders shipped"...

Moral of the story: THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT... i think they were all instructed to say 14-21 days to keep customers from getting angry if they do not get their phones on launch day... i thought it was interesting that she says it already shipped even though the att.com status page has not been updated for my orders...

My guess is most of us that ordered Friday morning will be getting it on the 21st.. I always order through applestore.com but I do remember a ton of threads last year just like this one... the att.com customers were pissed because they were not getting any updates online, and then they were all ecstatic when all their orders came in on launch day and sometimes even a day earlier....

I am just going to stop worrying about it... simple as that.. in the end, its just a phone no matter how badly i want it
 
LOL... this is my first try with AT&T and it will be my last. I will order direct from Apple from now on!!!
Haha also I'm remembering some credit card issues..my credit card company denied it due to suspicious activity and att never bothered to tell me, so my obsessive status checking was able to give me a heads up. It took 3 separate tries on the card..i would have to call chase and tell them the charge was ok, and then find out att had tried and gotten declined again before I called. Finally got it coordinated like the Wednesday before. ATT can't seem to help themselves in creating issues.
 
I won't be getting mine 14-21 days. I order at 9:00 am Moutain time. That what the lady said. She even said first come first served.

My credit card said been Pending Transactions since the day I pre-order it. I check the status it says in progress and backorder 1 for the ipone 5 64 GB and sim card. I'm hoping I will get it the 9/21 but I got an email later Friday saying Your iPhone will ship in approximately 14-21 business days.

By the way I'm on premier and called this number 1-866-288-7629. What made me mad was that I got online at 1:30am dialing 611 the lady said I can't order it cause you are premier so you have to call this number 1-88-296-4561. I called them the guy said they we are not taking order but we will put you on the list we will call you latet today 9/14 or 9/15 or 9/17. The guy probably didn't want to take my order. So I tried this number 1-866-288-7629 and try to order again from them. The lady said I would love to place that order for you but you won't be getting it 14-21 days I was like okay its better than nothing then.

What do you guys think I will get it lol by the way once I get my phone and activate my phone I'm going to go personal account skip this permier junk. I will lose my unlimited data though :(

****. Just had a chat with two AT&T reps. One over phone, and one over online chat.

I ordered my iPhone 5 in an AT&T store on Friday at 10:04am.

They both told me my iPhone 5 will ship between 10/4 and 10/15.

My life sucks. :eek:
 
Wait, if on the order status website your back order quantity goes from X amount to 0, then it means that it will ship this week for delivery on the 21st?
I'm confused as to what this back order amount means.
 
I used the TSX trick on the MR site and I've got a shipping label made for mine through UPS - i ordered an hour and 15 minutes after they went on sale - 64 black.

I would order thru Apple.
This is my 1st time ordering thru ATT and their lack of transparancy is aggrivating.

Never again will I order thru ATT. Ill just do what I always did in the past.....order directly from Apple.
