I pre-ordered my iPhone 5 16GB from AT&T at 6:45 AM Eastern Time last Friday from AT&T's website. I would've pre-ordered at 3 AM but kept getting a login failure so at 4 AM I went back to bed and ordered when I woke up. When I ordered the ship time showed it would arrive on 9/21 before I ordered and then once my order was complete I received my order number and the order form showed I would receive my iPhone on 9/21.
I thought all was good and well which made me happy since I sold my iPhone 4 through eBay Instant Sale for $235 and had until October 1st to ship it and still receive that quote.
Then things went really bad when I decided to check with AT&T today to see where the status of my order stood so I called in to customer service.
Upon calling in the representative on the phone informed me that I placed my order on 9/15 and I my phone would not ship until Oct. 4 - 15 and then would have to allow 14 - 21 days for my phone to arrive after it was shipped. Obviously this news upset me but I stayed calm and told the person on the phone that I placed my order at 6:45 AM on 9/14 and that the order complete screen showed me I would receive it on 9/21. She then told me this was not the case and stated how I would receive it next month. I asked to speak to a manager so she patched me through. The manager informed me that she saw I did place my order at 6:45 AM on 9/14 but I the reason for the change in the ship date was because I did not respond to a confirmation email from AT&T that I wanted to renew my 2 year contract until 2 PM EDT this past Friday. I then told her I never received such an e-mail from AT&T so there was no way I responded as she said I had and also informed her I never received a confirmation email of my order. She proceeded to tell me that this issue has happened to multiple people who ordered Friday morning where they didn't receive this "confirm your 2 year agreement" email and thus they ship time slipped from the first day (9/21) to next month and that there was nothing she could do regarding this error on AT&T's side.
This has me really frustrated and was wondering if anyone else had this issue? If so have you found out how to resolve this as this is not a customer's error but AT&T's? Also not sure what to do about shipping my iPhone 4 that I sold, I guess I could ship it and activate my roommates old iPhone 3GS and just wait on the new one.
Side note: received a text from AT&T at 3:42 PM EDT on 9/14 saying: "Congratulations! Your preorder has been processed. You will be notified when your order has shipped."
TL;DR AT&T pushed my ship date back due to a 2 year contract agreement email error.
