You are now chatting with 'Amber'
Amber: Hello, thank you for chatting with AT&T today. I see that you have a question regarding the status of a shipment. Is that correct?
Taylor: Yes. I want to know the shipping date of my order
Amber: Orders placed before 9am Pacific on 9/14/12 will ship by 9/21/12. Orders placed after this time will ship in 14-21 business days.
Taylor: What if mine was placed in a store at 10:04am EST?
Amber: Then it should still be with in that deadline.
Taylor: Funny, the last rep I talked with told me that she found information that my order was shipping between 10/5-10/14
Amber: I can look for you if you would like. I am just going off of the information I have based on what you are telling me. It may say something else in our system.
Taylor: Ok. If you could look for it, that would be great.
Amber: Okay no problem.
Amber: In order to protect your privacy, may I please have the First Name, Last Name, and the last four digits of the Social Security Number associated with this account?
Taylor: ****
Taylor: ****
Taylor: ****
Amber: Okay unfortunately the order site is saying that you will have to wait for the 14-21 days. I am sorry.
Amber: You will receive an email with the tracking details though that may differ in the information.
Amber: I am really sorry about that.
Taylor: Is there any way I can expedite the shipping??
Amber: Unfortunately because this is an item that is not released yet and backordered you would be unable to do it as of right now.
Amber: I apologize for the inconvenience.
Taylor: But why do I have to wait 14-21 days if I was in that time frame?
Amber: Honestly that is why I am saying you may want to just go ahead and wait for that email with the tracking information, because that goes by the carrier and may be completely different.
Amber: Because I do see what you are talking about with the time frame.
Taylor: AT&T screwed up a lot of people in these last few days
Taylor: No one has had a status showing they shipped. A few people are showing up on UPS' site but it seems like that is the vast minority.
Amber: Unfortunately on my end, theres nothing I can do. I am very sorry.
Amber: That is because they did not ship yet.
Taylor: Then why would they be showing up on the UPS site?
Amber: It would depend on the carrier. I do not know who would be delivering it until it ships. I am sorry again.
Taylor: I'm joining the boat saying that the reps know nothing. I just got off the phone with premier support and the guy said that "if you didn't order before the 13th your phone won't ship until October 24th". After we determined that yes, his system was indeed smoking crack, he said that if you ordered the first day in your state(???) it'll ship the 21st. I give up. (And I know, relax, etc. But going nuts is half the fun of preorder/launch events!)
Amber: I am sorry that is happening to you.
Taylor: The reps don't really know what they are talking about...some say shipping on 9/21 some say delivered on 9/21.
Amber: I completely understand.
Taylor: This is what I really think. Are you ready?
Amber: I really hope that you are able to get this taken care of and I am very sorry you are having such a hard time.
Taylor: The people you talk to via the chat or the general support numbers DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. Since a million people are calling in asking the same questions, the reps were fed generic information. Think about it. Why would AT&T's strategy be to have the phones SHIP the day everyone else RECEIVES them? If they did that none of the early adopters would order through them. My guess is the reps where told to say "The 21st!" and have made the uninformed assumption that means shipping. AT&T has been apart of EVERY iPhone launch and EVERY time they have delivered phones on the launch date. (I realize they didn't have pre-orders for the original iPhone, but you get what I'm saying). If you are within the original allotment of iPhone 5's, you will get your phone on Friday. The rumor is that the cutoff was sometime around 12pm EST to be in that original allotment. I would take this with a massive grain of salt because I don't think AT&T has as good of a handle on its inventory as Apple does and it would also depend on the size and color you ordered. And NO ONE at AT&T, that you can call, knows either. All they are doing is looking at what time someone ordered and using that as a basis of when it will ship. Their systems say just as much as anything we can check online. Sit back and relax. If you ordered early enough you will get your phone on Friday.
Amber: I am very sorry you are having a bad experience with this.
Amber: There is a lot going on and I imagine it can cause confusion.
Amber: I really do apologize that I could not be of further assistance to you.
Taylor: But why doesn't AT&T have a better handle on their orderss?
Taylor: When you contact customer service, you want to find out MORE than what you know
Taylor: All of you work completely backwards
Amber: I am sorry I really do not have an answer for you.
Taylor: So what is the point of AT&T paying all of you if you have the same info as us......
Amber: I do not know.
Taylor: Hahahahahaha
Amber: I am sorry your frustrated.
Taylor: *you're
Taylor: Bye
