Stop spreading bad info, you have no idea what you're talking about. An existing AT&T customer will not be able to purchase a new iPhone for the fully subsidized price (i.e. $199 for 16 GB) until their FULL UPGRADE DATE.

no "you're eligible for a discounted iPhone upgrade at a reduced discount". means you're for a discounted price....

Correct, discounted from the FULL RETAIL PRICE. If you don't believe me, call AT&T directly. As clueless as many of the customer services reps there are, they'll still tell you exactly what I'm telling you. Go ahead and try to preorder your new iPhone at launch and I guarantee you WILL NOT be able to get it for the full subsidized price--I'll wager anything you like.

I've been through this process on AT&T multiple times and know what I'm talking about. You are simply incorrect and spreading bad info will only confuse others so please stop.

Whatever you say man, but "You qualify for an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-year commitment." is pretty straight foward. It would have said "discounted early upgrade" like mines said a month ago if he would have had to pay an extra fee...

I got the "early upgrade" price when I purchased my iPhone 3G. That wasn't the full subsidized price. I saved some but not as much as new customers or people eligible for full upgrade.

EDIT: Just noticed that this was my 1000 post.

Sorry, but you are wrong
Go back and look at his graphic

Yes he is eligible for an early upgrade (2 year price + $250)
But the FULL upgrade is still listed at a later date

Dial *639# on your iPhone to get the full message texted to you:

"A full discount on a standard device or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 05/08/2013. We can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at 2-yr commitment pricing + $250 along with a new 2-yr commitment and an $36 upgrade fee. Please visit a participating iPhone sales location for pricing on this offer."

Show me where is says you get it at the fully discounted price? Try to start the upgrade process on AT&T's website and see what price they give you for a new 4s (shouldn't matter if you already one). If you get $199 (and not for a new line), post a screenshot and I'll stand corrected.

no when it says "you're eligible for a discounted iPhone upgrade at a reduced discount". means you're for a discounted price..

But when it says ""Great news! You qualify for an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-year commitment." that means you get full discount for an iphone only....

2 totally different things..

Wrong, the iPhone is not singled out anymore early upgrade is $250 plus price of device including iPhones. You all will be really upset if you think you get a full upgrade. You either are eligibe for the full discount or you are not. The reason they say you qualify for an reduce price is because you have to at least complete 6 months to even qualify for the early upgrade, otherwise you will pay full retail. People dial *639# from your phone to see. If it doesn't say you qualify for the full upgrade then expect to pay more.

When i dial *639# it showing the old info but Online it's showing the new info that i can upgrade. Im sure i can upgrade a iphone 5 at regular price. An early upgrade is an early upgrade at the end of the day.

Everyone got early upgrades pushed up when the 4 came out and got them at the full discount price..

The early upgrade price is *NOT* the fully subsidized price. You will be charged an additional $250 to upgrade early.

Online I get this:
"Great news! You qualify for an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-year commitment. Full upgrade available: May 07, 2013"

Dialing *639# on my iPhone I get this:

"A full discount on a standard device or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 05/08/2013. We can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at 2-yr commitment pricing + $250 along with a new 2-yr commitment and an $36 upgrade fee. They mean the same thing

Full discount/upgrade = subsidized price
Early upgrade/discount = subsidized price + $250

Your mileage may vary
Just be aware, "early upgrade" ≠ full subsidized pricing

I bought my 4S at launch. Still says I can upgrade 5-8-13. This is the first year since owning the 3G that AT&T has not bumped up my upgrade date. I have been an employee and a customer since '99. So much for ********** loyalty!

There is still plenty of time for the dates to change
I wouldn't be too concerned just yet, although there are some indications they are not going to continue that practice

Mines now say "Great news! You qualify for an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-year commitment.
Full upgrade available: October 04, 2012" ImageImageImageImageImage

About month ago is was ""As a valued AT&T customer, you're eligible for a discounted iPhone upgrade at a reduced discount". Anyone else just got moved up?

yeah um not for me lol mine says my early upgrade isnt until 5/8 i got my on lauch of last year. i thought the early upgrade was at 1 year?

I am a sales rep in an AT&T corporate store. Anything that says "early upgrade" means 2 year contract price + $250 early upgrade fee + 36 upgrade fee. Period.

You are now eligible for an "early upgrade" once you have completed 6 months of a 24 month contract.

Any idea if those with the 4s on launch will get bumped up to full upgrade status for the new iPhone launch?

For the 100th time. AT&T (Verizon and Sprint) all got rid of 12 month upgrades.

And AT&T isn't doing full subsidy iPhone $199 upgrades earlier than 18-20 months. No exceptions.

Early $250 iPhone upgrades are available after 6 months from last upgrade. That's $250 plus $199 plus $36 activation fee. That's $486 for "early upgrade" 16Gb iPhone pricing.

They don't tell us peons anything. We didn't know about the upgrades being pushed up on the 4 until Apple announced it at the keynote that year. And the way it worked was that the contract had to end within that same year in order to be upgrade eligible at the time of launch, which was in June that year, I believe.

I love people arguing over semantics though. It's really fun! Except when they walk in and say "Customer service said I'm eligible for an early upgrade..." Then explaining what that means isn't so fun...

And of course the carriers never change their policies... ever

True. But USA carriers have gotten very stingy with subsidizing smart phones especially the iPhone. Most of the carriers may bend a little on non iPhone pricing. Like att offered me $99 subsidized pricing on the S3 if I wanted to use my full subsidy upgrade on one of my lines. Of course most of us are waiting for next iPhone.

But carriers will not bend on the set $199/299/399 subsidized iPhone pricing unless it some small $25 promo target had during Xmas holiday 2011 with the 4s.

No, they won't bend on the subsidized pricing, but they have demonstrated flexibility in the past over when you were eligible for a full upgrade at subsidized pricing, or an early upgrade.

Some have been moved up on their upgrade schedule in the past
There is some indication that this will no longer be the case
My point was, things can always change in that regard
Not that the subsidized prices were flexible

They'll definitely move the dates up for those who got 4S's on launch day. They always do.

They always did for me UNTIL last year. They said they could give me a $200 bill credit. I told them I'd rather have my date bumped and they said there was nothing they could do so naturally I took the cash.

I wouldn't be shocked if AT&T gave out/pushed forward some early upgrades to placate customers all in a huff about the no FaceTime over cellular on old plans debacle. That's getting a bit of bad press and a shiny new iPhone at a subsidized price would shut up most people (since we tend to care more about one time discounts than we do the thousands we spend throughout our contracts.)
