I became an AT&T customer on launch day last year, so I've been with them a little bit over a year. I'm the only person on my plan, and my bill is only around 80 bucks with a FAN discount. Dialing *639# tells me that an upgrade is not available at this time but that I may qualify on 11/25/2011. I hope they move it up, but considering the ip5 is probably going to be out in October it's not that long a wait before I can upgrade. I just hope they don't move it UP to 20 months..that would suck.

While they most likely will not make you eligible at launch (as they did for anyone that would have been upgrade-eligible last year), it is also unlikely that they will just "move it out" to 20 months just for fun. Just keep your account current and don't make any changes that reduce your bill.

For example: If you are late paying you bill, your eligiblity date will move out. The MRC for each line is calculated on a 3 month rolling average.

Your FAN discount does not count against your line's MRC so you are paying a rate that puts you eligible for a handset at about 16 months into your 2 year commitment.

Hi,

Not to be noisy, but do you pay over a 100.00. I'm around 87.00 and I don't qualify until Nov 18...maybe it says. I bought mine the first day it came out June 24 2010.

yes i have 6 lines actually so it gets quite expensive

Bought iPhone 4 on launch day and I'm not eligible for upgrade until 2/26/12.
My "family plan" is over $100 per month.
Been with AT&T since iPhone 1.

The second line (non iPhone) on my plan is eligible so I believe I can use that one to upgrade to iPhone 5 and then have AT&T switch numbers.
It takes some doing but the AT&T rep switched sims and account info around for me.

I would've been eligible now since I copped the i4 on release date last year, but I remember that I used my early upgrade in December. I sold my i4 went to Sprint got an EVO, returned the EVO and then copped another i4 with my early upgrade price. That's why I'm not good until December now. At least that's my theory.

Just a reminder, it is not your total "family plan" monthly charges that matter. Each line has it's own individual contract and a MRC that determines your upgrade eligibility. Again, double check to see which of your FamilyTalk rate plans are attached to each phone. One will be much higher but any add-a-lines start with a base of $9.99. It really sounds like your line may be currently a secondary line due to your reported 2/16/2012 upgrade eligible date.

Yes, you will be able to do an "Upgrade Swap" once you get the new iPhone. You would order it on the eligible line and then when it arrives you will have a couple of options to complete the "Upgrade Swap" steps.

Note: there were some changes last year based on ordering via Apple vs AT&T and the steps that were needed to complete the "Upgrade Swap". Check back here at MR for the latest updates.... :D

Mine changed to: March 21 2012 for no reason. I think an iPhone 5 release is getting closer, they are definitely changing their system way too frequently.
