Kind of ticks me off that people are getting their dates changed so easily and I've failed 3-4 times already.

I'm happy for you guys, just upset with AT&T's inconsistency. I'm over here about to pay $650 and they are moving dates/crediting people over $300 with ease.

Exactly how I feel! They didn't offer me a penny!

Ask for the customer rentention department. Tell em that the $250 is higher than breaking the contract and you are going to sprint or Verizon for the iPhone 4S.

But seems like people are having luck claiming that their phone broke and need to get a new one. The key to this method is never utter the word iPhone.

First paragraph says to mention iPhone 4S, second says never to mention the iPhone. :p

I'm pretty sure they log everything about your conversations. I've had reps bring things I've said up from months back, so be careful about what you say to each rep. I think it's best to keep the story consistent and hope you get someone nice on the line.

I'm too tired to make phone calls at this point, I think I give up.

2 different approaches. Did you even read it?

On hold for retention now and decided to check this thread. But I already mentioned the iPhone. We'll see what happens.

Yeah, I was half joking. I'm just tired.

but seriously though. i posted earlier about them changing my date from 02/2012 to eligible now (which im still thanking them from the bottom of my heart for)

but i see that others aren't getting moved up with earlier dates?

Some more information is that I have a family plan with 3 other lines that equals up to at least $160 monthly and I have purchased every iphone that has ever came out. So maybe that factors in some sort of way.

Hmm maybe using both methods at once would work. Say your phone broke so you need a upgrade pushed up then tell them if you can't upgrade it would be cheaper to go to sprint or Verizon then breaking contract. This method has a lot of holes in it though.

Wouldn't use the word iPhone with this double whammy approach either though.

Ditto, on hold for retention now. My ETF is $90, which is insanely lower than the $250 premium. Everyone has been super nice to me though, not sure why everyone is having trouble. Billy, John, Quinten all awesome CSAs lol!

My ETF is $440 for three lines, so I can't really use that excuse unless I pretend I want to cancel only one of my lines. I might try to call in a bit but I feel defeated at this point.

I pay that, at the very least, every month for three lines. I've also purchased every iPhone on launch day (in some cases two).

I think it comes down to getting the right rep.

With three lines you should have the main number elgible every year. You have to be paying more than $100 a month.

Why don't you folks do the following.

eBay instant sale for a 16 gb is 305.00 and a 32 gb is 345.50. Ask AT&T for a credit of 250, and get a phone for free?

I am going to upgrade my wife's 16gb to a 16gb, and mine to a 64gb
Net is a cost of 2 new phones, 194.

(250) credit
(305) sale of 16
(349) sale of 32
449 upgrade 16
649 upgrade 64

-194 due. Not bad IMO

I pay nearly $200 every month. I think I will call now and ask for the customer retention department. I might try the complete honest approach. My eligibility date was pushed back for some reason, after seeing with my own eyes that it was June 2011 in April, and I want to preorder tonight. If they don't budge, I'll ask how much it costs to cancel my main line and politely threaten to jump ship while explaining that I'd much rather not.

Right now I'm buying at $650 and selling my iPhone 4 32 (pristine) for around $400. Getting the $250 credit is the hard part.

I also called again to see if I can bump my date up or get a bill credit (I figured it was worth a shot). I have 4 lines and pay about $200 a month. I've also always gotten an iPhone on launch day and have been eligible for the next iPhone year after year. No dice on either.

I'm not going to worry about it too much. :p They really seem to be very random at picking and choosing who gets bill credits or bump ups in eligibility. I'll just pay my ETF which is lower than the $250 and start a new line, if I want the phone bad enough. :)

I also had an original upgrade date of June 2011. When I talked to a CSR they said that there was no record of me ever having a June eligibility date. So good luck with that!

She just ran around in circles with me. I am totally okay with the whole 18 month situation, if that is the way it is. I just wanted to know what caused me to jump from an original June date to all of a sudden November. Well, she couldn't answer that.

at&t tells me each of my two lines have an ETF of $90 (instead of $175 like I thought it would be). I later called back to confirm the $90/line. They offered me a $60 credit for not being able to bump me up from Feb'12. So my cost for a 4S is now only $259 each if I jump ship. I can sell my two IP4 for about $350 and pocket the difference...

So I am on a family plan with my brother (we both upgraded the same day). His account says he is eligible for the upgrade. When I check my account it says I won't be eligible until July of 2012. Can anyone explain this??

Is he the primary line on the account?

Sounds like your brother is the main account holder. Either that or he stole one of your upgrades lol.

So is there a consensus yet on what's the best way to make AT&T give credit or allow early upgrade?

I'm calling for the second and the last time to try and get bumped up.

It just seems so random...I do pay over $100/month though.

Was offered free texting for 6 months. Worth $90.

I am now scheduled for both my lines to cancel on Oct 31st. AT&T can bite me.

Anyone who got the iPhone 4 shouldn't be eligible for an upgrade. If you skipped the iPhone 4 and stuck with the 3GS until the next generation after iPhone 4, well, then you certainly should.
