Thanks. I went to the upgrade department but, if this fails, I will try again.

No dice. :(

I did learn something new though. Standard and early upgrades are two different entities. If I use my early upgrade and pay an extra $250, my standard upgrade will not change. It will stay at November 18th, so I'll be able to upgrade to the next iPhone or even purchase a second 4S if I ever wanted to.

Nikos, did you change you plan recently?

I have a family plan. I changed a few things about it a while back. Downgraded to less minutes, went from unlimited data to 4gb + tethering, changed it from unlimited family text messaging to unlimited text messaging for my line only. This was all MONTHS ago though.

That's incorrect. How did you come up with that conclusion?

That's exactly what she told me. She said if I use my early upgrade (and pay $250 extra) that my standard upgrade date is not affected.

Lies.

Moving to a plan with less minutes (and less $$ in At&T eyes) is probably what did it. How long ago was it?

If this were the case everybody would buy an early upgrade phone and buy a fully subsidized phone to sell.

When you early upgrade, you extend your contract another 2 years. There's no way your upgrade date will be the same. I don't know if you misunderstood the rep or she was new.

EDIT: Do you have more than one line? Maybe one of your other lines are early upgrade eligible. If you upgrade that one then your main line's date will be unaffected.

She must have been new then, because I asked her about it as clearly as possible three times. I'm thinking about calling back again, but I've been demoralized at this point.

Ive heard at as long as each line is charged $99+ per month then the line is eligible yearly. We used to have the $99 unlimited minute plans on each of our 2 lines plus $30 data plans so we were eligible for both lines for the 3GS at launch after getting the 3G at launch on new contracts. Then we switched to the unlimited family plan so only 1 line qualifies for yearly upgrades and the other line has 18 months til eligible since that line gets charged less than $99 a month.

I made my call.

Very nice lady told me that Apple is who is making the decisions on early eligibility - not AT&T.

She did say I could go in to my local corporate AT&T store and they could bump up my eligibility by one month. She said I'd be able to buy at the lowest prices in a corporate store on 10.18.2011. (My *639# date is 11.18.2011)

Of course she admitted the local corporate store has no guarantee of having any phones in stock.

Yeah she was totally incorrect. Try to call again. You're the customer, boss!

I had no luck with a CSR -- she told me that I must have changed something (although she found no changes). I didn't change plans. She put the blame all on the customer.

I talked to three different people and they all said that they had a legal agreement with Apple and there was no possible way for them to change the upgrade dates.

I called the AT&T store nearby and they said they technically CAN moved it forward within the month... so I'm eligible on December 26th, but they could give me the upgrade on December 1st if I come into the store.

So it kind of makes sense that some people (around November eligibilty) are being bumped. But I'm jealous :(

Just called in and no dice, but some condolence prizes.

I've been watching the thread hear and have been on the phone with AT&T for over an hour. My eligibility is set for Nov 25th

I talked to a CSR, then a manager and then a Customer Service Resolution person. They weren't able to change my eligibility even after I told them that I knew of others who had, but they did offer me some condolence prizes:

A $50 credit if I call them and order it on my eligibility date and they will waive the $18 upgrade fee. In addition, he gave me an upgrade to my text plan by bumping me to the $30 unlimited family plan for the $20 I was already paying for two separate 1000 limit plans. Also, we reviewed my plan and I switched to a plan with unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling, which I didn't already have. Will save another $20 bucks a month.

Still bummed out, but better than nothing.

True, I might try again. Even if I'm moved up by a month, that's October 18th. I'm trying to preorder this tonight. I think I'm just gonna fork over the money and at least have peace of mind and be done with the whole thing. $325 in the end is completely justifiable to me. Don't really want to renew my contract but there's no way I'm going CDMA anyway.

dept?

For those getting their dates moved up- how are you calling and do you have any idea what dept they are calling/msg to get the approval?

I've called 611 a couple times. I selected the 'upgrade' option the first go around and this last time just hit '0'. This lady was very nice - but seemed to have no idea how to make it happen. She asked me if I knew what dept she needed to call- and was willing to call them.

Wow- for all that effort on their end- you'd think they'd just move the date.

Either there are a lot of lairs in this thread getting dates moved (which I don't believe is the case) - or there are only 2 people with phones at at&t who know how to make the change (sadly, this seems like the more likely explanation).

I don't remember exactly. Sometime between April and July is my guess. I'm still paying close to $200 per month for 3 lines.

Its actually per line(not total bill). Meaning if your monthly charges (average for 3 pervious months) is greater than $100 you are eligible for an upgrade every 12 months. My family has 750 minute plan and my line is the main line and therefore over a $100.

Is your plan less than the 750 plan? If so that is the issue. Meaning your line (main line) is probably below $100 and since At&t averages the last 3 months of your bill is probably the reason for the change.

Ahh, I have the 550 minute plan. The other two lines are very rarely used now, so I downgraded from the 1400 minute plan.

On the phone now, so far no luck. 11/25/11. Bought on launch day. Family plan $151 per month. No recent changes (unless increasing my text plan counted against me). If they won't change it, I'm going to wait. Its not worth $549 to me (32GB).

I just talked to AT&T. The story I was given is that my eligibility was pushed back due to the automatic change AT&T provided to anyone with an unlimited text plan. This change allowed for unlimited mobile to mobile calling.

This isn't something I asked for. I never come close to using my 450 minutes. The CS rep said that it wasn't possible to move the eligibility date up.

It seems I'm the only idiot who is paying the extra $250+18 instead of waiting a month. Another one of my concerns is it being sold out even when I'm eligible and having to wait even longer. I know I'd be checking the site every day until then, and thereafter if necessary.

That's exactly what she told me. She said if I use my early upgrade (and pay $250 extra) that my standard upgrade date is not affected.

I was told this as well so I got more information on him specifically if it's changed I will call back and raise hell

They couldn't change my upgrade date, so they gave me a $250 credit on my bill to cover the $250 early upgrade cost. I have been with AT&T for over 10 years. I explained that I might have to jump to Sprint. This was from the retention department. My upgrade date was 11/25. I was very nice and they were equally pleasant.
