Failed again. They told me they can push my upgrade up for anything but an iPhone, and that it would have to be ordered over the phone with them. They said they'll call me tomorrow after I've browsed their site and picked out a new phone.

Asked how much it would be to cancel each one of my lines and he told me.

That was it. My luck is awful tonight.

I don't get how you guys are getting to the cancelation department. I tried calling and it said they were closed....

Ok, maybe the guys who said they were updating everyones eligibility right now are right. I just pulled up AT&T and got this:
20111007-gfw1r83t55aawwnyhc9phatcyb.preview.jpg

While normally it gives me "you may be eligible on 11/13/11"

What would happen if you called the bluff bought a generic phone and then returned it as soon as you got it? Sure you would miss tonight's preorder but...

So if I wanted to use my current iPhone4 phone number on the 4s, and I pay the $650 (for the 64gb version) I can do that? And now my current plan of 2-years starts from the 14th? No more issues? I just need to sell my iphone4 to make up the cost? Or is there something else I'm missing? Like since I didn't complete my 2-year contract, I'll have the pay a pro-rate or something on the old iphone4?

What did you say to them? I'm still waiting to talk to a supervisor.

I was extremely nice and asked to speak to a supervisor. I explained that it was cheaper to pay the etf and go to Sprint or Verizon to get the 4s. I explained that I wanted to stay with ATT but if they couldn't help me out I would leave. It seems like they have no leeway on the upgrade date but can offer credit.

After trying and failing to get my 11/18 date moved back I began to think. Maybe this wasn't such a bad thing. After upgrading to iOS 5 and using it for a while maybe it'll hold me over until the iPhone 5. Especially if this whole 20 month wait is true. I'd rather skip this one than a designed iPhone. I never really thought to myself yet "i wish my phone was faster" or "i wish i had an assistant".

Never thought I'd catch myself saying this as I've upgraded every single year since it came out.

I really don't want to miss tonight's preorder, that's the thing.

Time to pay up, I guess.

If you agree to get the 64GB 4S at "half subsidy price", then you will sign a new 2-year contract which will start on the 14th (or thereabouts) and you will be free and clear to do whatever you want with the old phone. The early cancellation fee is tied to your service agreement, not the device itself. So there is no penalty if you wish to sell your old phone as long as you continue service.

Wow you had a extra $250 just laying around and you were stressing that bad?

Talked to a CSR around 7pm EST. Told her my situation that the eligibility date is 11/18. Was super nice to her, chatted her up a bit. She got a manager who was going to escalate the situation to have me upgrade early. The manager said you will have early eligibility and could order for 199 tomorrow at 3am. Gave me a case #, and said would update before 3am and give me a call back once they have it resolved. Now.... No call and still says 11/18. Son of a ....

Hmm guess that's the route I'll have to go. I just hope there are people who's still willing to pay for a new iphone4 32gb around the $300. Maybe.. if they don't jailbreak the current iphone 4s too quick. ;)

It's worth trying to save. I'm not wealthy by any means.

I posted this earlier but just in case anyone didn't see it:

If you go to a corporate AT&T store they will allow you to upgrade on the first day of the month that your eligible to upgrade (November for most of us) I know this doesn't help out for tonight, and I'm really tempted to just drop the 250.00 but we're only talking about 15 days from when the phone will ship to the 1st when we can upgrade. Is 15 days worth 250.00?? Guess it depends on your bank roll :D

While I appreciate this info, I don't think it's a matter of just waiting 15 days to upgrade. The big concern is whether the phone will sell out like last year and we would all have to wait even longer.

I can't believe how long I've been waiting to talk to a supervisor. It's been almost two hours. I'm still on hold. I hope my call doesn't drop again.

If you have been on hold for 2 hours straight then you are being left on hold until you hang up.... I don't see why you would wait so long.

Waiting is one thing. Not knowing if it will sell out, and for how long, is another. $250 to not have to wait a month and, more importantly, peace of mind is kind of worth it to me. If it sold out, I'd be hammering the site every day until I was eligible for upgrade to check stock and that would eat me alive.

I know. Trust me I know :D

Just wanted to pass the info for those that aren't having any luck with customer service and don't want to drop 250 extra.

Some of us were told that if we use our Early Upgrade, it won't affect our Standard Upgrade. When I preorder this tonight, if my standard upgrade is affected I'm going to call and really start bitching at them for misinforming me. Maybe at that point they will credit me.

Well she keeps coming on and updating me that they are working to get a free supervisor so it's not like it has been just music for two hours.
