Dang really. I really have to call later. Seems everyone is getting a credit. Does apple charge you the full price when you pre order?

I ended up getting a reservation email, and then a second email to complete the order. When you complete the order, you're charged.

called in-- got my date moved up from nov 16 to now

I went straight to retentions on my 3rd try. that's the way to go

did you mention the iphone? i called a bunch yesterday and no such luck. i am super nice on the phone, i understand they don't owe me anything, my issue is that my ETF is only 90 bucks, i'd rather stay with ATT but its way cheaper for me to go to another carrier. they just don't seem to care. not to mention that yesterday my upgrade date got pushed back from november all the way to february. none of this makes sense. they say they can override the date for any phone but the iphone because apple won't let them. I got forwarded to "customer care" is that different than retention? wasn't offered a credit or anything. they basically said see ya later there's nothing we can do.

you gotta go to retention....it took me 3 tries.

----------

Is there a number to press for retentions or do you just ask a human to transfer you?

I explained the situation..you have to say you are going to cancel if you dont get it. you can always not actaully cancel but you gotta threaten

ordered one this morning or myself for $199

my wife's line says April 2012 so i called AT&T this morning and had her line changed to primary. still says April 2012 but that's only because it might be a batch process after hours to update the data.

when i do the eligibility for mine it says not eligible now. i assume it's because i'm in the system that i just bought new phone.

hoping for the best

The CSA wouldn't transfer me to retentions for some reason. I asked him several times to move me to a supervisor or retentions. He ended up giving me a $50 credit, but that doesn't help much.

He even admitted that they were moving up dates for some and it's not fair that they're not moving it up for others. I told him that I appreciated the honesty/sympathy but actually telling me there's some sort of inconsistency and double standard has now made me more energized to get this done. I was just on the border of apathy before that call.

Something tells me my 18% FAN discount puts my monthly billing to an amount that means they can't give me much.

I called back to begrudgingly take the free texting for 6 months. Did the math and it was cheaper than paying the $175 ETF. The guy on the line immediately started calculating ways to save me more money. Although what he came up with was really not a big savings.

He offered me a lower rate plan w/ fewer minutes for $10/month less (I was going to cancel that line and save at least $10/month) and he offered me unlimited texting for $10/month instead of 1500 at $15/month. In the end I think I'm saving a total of $5/month over the life of my contract. And now I have to upgrade my second line and commit to keeping it for another 24 months.

The more I think it over...the more I think this deal still sucks. :(

My calls today to AT&T:

1. General representative. Tell her that I'm concerned that my upgrade date (at the lower $199 price) is not until 11/25 for my phone and 2/25 for my wife's phone. I tell her I want to upgrade today to 4S so can I have my upgrade date moved to today? She looks around, says that my date is already today, and that I can get the $199 phone today on the phone or in the store. I say great, please send me a confirmation email, knowing she's wrong probably. She does. I hang up and check the email. Sure enough, I cannot upgrade for $199 today. The 11/25 and 2/25 dates are still in effect.

2. Account cancellation representative. Tell her what happened on the last call. Explain that it would in fact be cheaper to go back to Verizon, which I had previously, pay the AT&T early termination fee, and get the discounted $199 Verizon iPhone 4S than it would be to pay the full undiscounted price for the 4S through AT&T. I asked her what the incentive is to stay with AT&T when my family is all on Verizon and they have the iPhone there too now. She said she can't move the upgrade dates, but as an incentive to stay, she would give me free unlimited texting for both phones for 6 months, saving us $30. I accepted.

So I'll be slumming with the 4 rather than the 4S for a while, but I was happy to take the $240 account discount over the next six months. Both nice reps though, which is refreshing compared to many companies.

with the free texting for 6 months..i already have 2 individual text plans..would i not be charged for those for 6 months if i had that free 6 month texting offer?

In my case, I had unlimited texting on one phone and 200 texts per month on the other. It was $25 total ($20 for the first and $5 for the other). I had already been eyeing the $30 unlimited for both phones together. So she switched me to that and made it $0 unlimited for both phones together for the first six months.

I didn't get my eligibility moved up or a 250 dollar credit but they offered me free family texting for 6 months :D

I got a similar deal.

I called customer service yesterday and went through the same hoops as everyone else it seems. First line customer support can't do anything, their manager can't do anything, and customer retention can't move the dates up. Customer retention told me that the dates are in the computer and they can't be moved for anyone. But in the same breath says they can move them for any phone except the iPhone. He blames it on apple. He offers me the 6 months free unlimited texting saving me about $120 bucks. I decline and say I'll just cancel and move to Sprint where the plans are cheaper anyway. He finally says the best he can do is give me $10 off my unlimited texting plan......for life. He made clear that this would not change unless I changed texting plans. I'll believe it when I see a bill though. So it would take 25 months to get my money back for the early upgrade fee, but I'd save money in the long term. I accepted it, but....I think I'll still just want for my upgrade date of 11-18-2011. :D Good luck people it seems like it's a fluid situation and it depends on a lot of factors, most important being who you get at customer retention!

I have called probably 10 times this week. Finally I asked for the retention department. I told them I was canceling if I can't get the iPhone 4s. They offered 6 months free family messaging, 3 month $40 credit and I got a $120 the other day. So I got $420 in credits and ordered the the iPhone 4s with free shipping and no upgrade fee.

I called and got the retention department, too. They offered me the 10$ Unlimited texting option for life. I took it.

The Manager at my local store says he can bump me up on November 1st. That's better then the 18h, so I think I made out on this deal.

The retentions rep told me call 611, you get customer service. Ask to be transferred to retensions. If they refuse then say it is a matter that can only be dealt with in retensions

After numerous attempts to get my eligibility date moved via phone, I went to the ATT store on State Street (Chicago).

They overrode the date, no questions asked. Phone scheduled to arrive on Friday like the rest of the world.

Woohoo!

What was your original date?

Woohoo!

Was your date fairly close to now, anyway? No one at Customer Care or the Retention Department seems to be able to do that.
