Someone please give me hope. Has *anyone* been able to get lines eligible for upgrade on 2/25/2012 moved up?

Exact same predicament here. Family plan, primary number is eligible, even though that number was upgraded a week AFTER mine when the iPhone 4 launched, I had my phone a fully week before that number. My upgrade date is 2/18/20112, hers as primary account is, and has been for 3 weeks, now.

I spoke with AT&T tonight for an hour and a half, I ended up with a gentleman named Dan Johnson from Customer Relations, he told me there is absolutely no way in their system to move upgrade dates manually.

He told me the only option here (the only logical one, the others weren't real options, for me at least - ie. cancel contract, pay price suggested, blah.) was to add a line for the $10/month extra... sooo that's what I'll be doing, and after I get the phone, I'll try and see if I can cancel that line within the 30 days withOUT having to return the phone.

Fingers crossed..

Paying $250

Since this is my current favorite thread, does anyone here know if the plastic bezel around the white phone gets dirty? I know the glass parts should be ok. Only other thing that bothers me about white is the thin black border around the screen being more prominent.

If you waited for your upgrade date how much will you be paying then?

Pay the $200 upgrade fee now or pay it next year when the iPhone 5 comes out. Either way you are going to pay it. I went through the same decision when I upgraded from the 3G to the 3Gs. Paid extra to get the 3Gs but got the 4 subsidized. If I had gotten the 3Gs subsidized I would have had to pay full price for the 4.

That's how family plans work. The primary line gets the credit of the higher billing rate so is always eligible earlier.

Its still not a wise decision to spend an extra $250 when you don't have to. You're spending over $7/day for 35 days to have the phone 35 days earlier. That's a nice lunch every day for over a month.

Who the hell are you? His accountant? As he stated, he only spends what he has in the bank and doesn't use credit.

$399, so after selling my iPhone 4 it will pretty much be free. Now, after it's all said and done, I will be paying about $300.

I've already convinced myself to preorder and be done with it.

You're right, but it's worth it to me.

Or just be more responsible and upgrade when you have the subsidy available.

No, just stating a fact. Why are you so worried about it? He admitted I'm correct and just stated that its worth it to him. His decision...I'm just pointing out the obvious..that's all.

I'm a tech enthusiast to the point that I can never skip a generation. Hell, I don't even want to wait a month to get this. It's a passion moreso than just a phone for some of us.

I was thinking this too. Either way don't you have to pay for the phone?
I am eligible for an upgrade but it ain't free, it's 199. Yours is 250 the isn't bad at all. :) What were you trying to achieve? :D 'Cos I'm a bit confused why 250 is bad. If you were to upgrade on your upgrade date would it be that much lesser?

So does using the Early Upgrade really not affect Standard Upgrade?

It's the cost of the phone plus $250 early upgrade fee. So $199/299/399 (depending on model) PLUS $250 + $18 upgrade fee.

Me too, but it's an urge I try to fight. As I grow older I'm choosing to spend my money a bit more wisely than I did when I was younger. It's killing me to wait the extra time, but I know I could use that $250 for some other nice things....like a plane ticket to Cozumel. :p

BTW, the best advice I saw recently; money can't buy happiness, but it will make you happier to spend it on experiences instead of possessions. Possessions wear out, get traded in. Memories are for a lifetime. (I just got back from China, North Korea, and South Korea...but money I've ever spent...EVER)

I like that quote. Traveling is a ton of fun, and I am starting to prefer spending money on experiences as well. This is an exception for me though.

Good luck guys, AT&T is obviously not going to help me tonight. No pre-ordering for me.

Going to bed. Hope you all get your pre-orders in.

But is that how it works? Doesn't paying the 250 and starting a new contract just push your next true upgrade back again?

I.e. suppose the 6 comes out in June, you'll only be 8 months into your 2yr contract, and will have to pay the 250 *again* (if not more). I mean correct me if that's wrong.

Good luck to you too, Gecko!

I don't believe your upgrade eligibility date changes. Or at least that's what I'm being told by a few people. Hope it's true.

Interesting. Would be nice to find some confirmation on this either way.

According to the AT&T rep I spoke with any upgrade other than paying full price will reset upgrade eligibility. Like you I was considering paying the extra $250 but when I was told it would push my next upgrade eligibility back 18 mos. I reconsidered.

I'm eligible next month so I'll see what I can sell my iPhone 4 for then. If I can make it close to a wash buying the 4S I'll buy.

So be aware if you pay the $250 now and then want the next years iPhone too you'll have to pay $250 again. If you wait until you are eligible for a subsidized 4S then you'll just pay the $250 for next years phone.

AT&T's whole $250 fee is BS. I understand charging something extra to upgrade early if you don't meet their mysterious requirements for a full discount but why that fee is more than your ETF is baffling, it also should be criminal.

I really want a 4S but don't feel like falling for the highway robbery.

iPhone 4 Purchase Date: 06/29/2010
Eligibility Date: 02/29/2012

I'm really not very upset about not being able to upgrade until next week - which makes me wonder if I even really need to. Then again, at worst, I'll just have to wait an extra month for the 5.

Just checked online and my eligibility for a new iPhone has been moved up from not eligible until November 2011 (checked yesterday) to eligible for a new phone today.
Yes, I had this too on several of my lines. I'm loving it. :)
