Talk about the real ipad killer!
I have no mercy for anybody committing crimes.
Why are so many people on the side of robbers, gangsters and worry about their child hoods, abuse etc.etc.
We all have issues and don't snap or go stealing.
If somebody shows they don't want to be part of an orderly society and don't follow their rules,
live and die with the consequences!
As somebody posted already the security guard was put into a stress situation and once more and more facts come out
some lawyers (if this goes to court) will be digging into his life to find an angle that he is really the guilty party in all of this.
Plus, I am almost certain he will be "fired" or as they say "reassigned"

I agree. Incredibly sad.How sad,
I mean a person lost his life because of his actions, and the guard now has to live with the fact that he took a life. All for what - some iToys? Doesn't seem worth it.
being the CCW permit holder that I am... I sure hope this guys did more than break some glass; security guard is going to feel a lot of pain for this one... doesnt matter if that guy was running with the whole damn store being pulled behind him, can't shoot at all for this one. I really hope there is more to this story.
Yes, this experience will probably be very traumatic for him. Having killed someone is tough enough, but the second-guessing and accusations might go on forever. Unfortunately.
Lot of stress for little money. Actually, it would be nice to see Apple step in and help out here. They do after all have other stores in other malls that need protecting, and the guards might be comforted to know Apple has their backs.
A point unfortunately missed by many who immediately presumed 'excessive force'. As I say, the accusations afterward can be as stressful as the incident itself.
And the cheap, easy moral posturing begins. Sad.

Everyone decrying the head shot, if you read the better of the two articles, you will see that gunfire was exchanged. The guard didn't just open up on people running away with loot. They opened up on the guard in the attempt to get away. If that happens, all bets are off on what the guard can do.

The burglars were shooting at him also. So the security guard acting in self defense. It wasn't like they were unarmed and while they ran away he shot them.

I'm sorry but those guys deserved it. Why should the mall guard have to wait until his life in in danger before putting someone else's life in danger? Those guys were breaking the law and could have given someone a heart attack or something so screw that! Mall security guard +1 for sure! You rock man!

Nothing was left out, if you read the story. Gun fire was exchanged. Obviously the mall guard had better training, possibly a moonlighting cop.
Armed security guards are pretty standard in Chicagoland too.
It still must feel bad knowing you killed someone. I mean the intention was likely to wound to remove the threat rather than kill. Even if all was justified, the guard will likely need counseling or time to get over it. If he actually enjoyed it then he's in the wrong line of work.
Oh, yeah, nothing illegal or hinky there.
But the guard's still gotta live with the fact that a life was taken. Bad stuff all the way around....
