Attempted Apple Store Holdup Goes Bad: Suspect Killed

bleeding hearts of the world!!! UNITE!!! lol!

HEADSHOT! FTW!

i have no sympathy to people that have obviously no respect for human life. they brought loaded weapons to use them if needed with lethal consequence. now they got wiped out. Good. i hope they screamed as they went into the wall with their friend's mind on their clothing. they made memories.

"Shooting To Wound" is purely a product of television, movies, and video games. In real situations where gunfire is exchanged, milliseconds count, and center mass until the target is down is the ONLY reality.

I know. And heroics by gun toting civilians is mostly a product of fantasy as well. The idea of whipping your gun out to save the day is absurd. Most shootings occur with no warning. If you were always hyper-vigelent and ready to brandish your gun, you would likely be a danger to those around you.

OMG.. I'm with Felt. "Security Guards" shouldn't carry guns, and if they do there should be training and good sense that goes into using it. Shooting the suspects in the head is criminal.

You're right. Perhaps the security guards should instead be trained in negotiation and psychology, so they would try to persuade the would-be criminals from committing crime. :D

Had this security guard done nothing and instead hide in a corner somewhere like most of you would, I could only imagine some of the comments you guys would post.

security guards in general get so much heat from the general population. Armed guards are there to protect life and property. they don't respond like they should in these situations, they aren't doing their job. Most guards, don't do their job and this is why they get ridiculed. this guard does his job and you get people saying things like "security guards shouldn't carry guns, OMG"

Rent-a-cops have guns? And shoot people IN THE HEAD? I'm amazed.

pretty amazing huh? I use to do armed security. Sometimes when I do duty without a gun, I'd get all kinds of wise-ass side remarks about being a rent a cop. when I carried my gun, I got nothing but respect. the "rent-a-cop" remarks stopped. or maybe they just said it very low so I couldn't hear. Not sure why, I am not going to shoot anyone for an insult :D

and yes, if my life or those I am working to protect are threatened by you, this "rent-a-cop" would shoot you in order to save my life or those around me. No questions asked.

How sad,
I mean a person lost his life because of his actions, and the guard now has to live with the fact that he took a life.
when you take your permit to carry a gun, they make it a point NOT to get your permit if you are not emotionally capable of handling taking someone's life. You don't wear a gun for show, you wear it for protection. if you come from the mentality that you could never shoot someone, even if your own life or those around you in is in danger, then leave your gun at home and pick a different job.

I'm sorry but those guys deserved it. Why should the mall guard have to wait until his life in in danger before putting someone else's life in danger?
it's the law, otherwise you open up yourself to be thrown in jail or face a civil lawsuit. the judge has to see that without a reasonable doubt, your life was in danger and you did what was needed in order to protect it or protect the life of those around you.

it's a judgement call you have to make and sometimes it's not an easy one to make because there are so many variables. Having an adrenaline rush and chaos all around you, makes it very easy to make mistakes. such as shooting a suspect as he is running away. missing shots and hitting bystanders. Pulling the trigger preemptively and killing someone without a "real" threat.

the messed part is that armed security guards, don't get the same type of protection police get. Had this been a police shooting, I bet half of these responses would be different.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Applestores must be filled with cash. I would think one would be a bit easier to rob than a bank.

I see no reason why anyone would carry cash...

You do not have to have a credit card you can have a debit card and pay with that.... cash has no place in retail anymore. This would solve a hell of a lot of hold up issues.

The only people who need to deal in cash are drug dealers.

Damn, well I can tell you most of the security guards at otay ranch are unarmed but there are a handful of guys that do carry. Im surprised I just heard about this living 2 minutes from the mall.

Yet if you feel no remorse for actually killing then you have your own problems. Glorified statements like yours are reserved for armchair vigilantes like yourself. If you actually kill, even in self defense, and feel no remorse, then you have your own problems.

Here's more details from SD newspaper:

CHULA VISTA — One man was killed and two others were arrested early Monday after a shootout with a security guard at a Chula Vista Apple Store.

Police said the trio broke into the store at the Otay Ranch Town Center on Birch Road just before 7 a.m., said police Capt. Gary Ficacci.

The security guard told officers he was in his vehicle outside the business when he saw two men and a woman smash the store's front windows, Ficacci said. The store manager was inside.

The guard confronted them and at least one of the men took out a handgun and threatened him, and a gun battle ensued, Ficacci said.

The trio then got into a small car and started to drive away but the male driver was mortally wounded and the car crashed into a light pole.

The other man and the woman got out of the car and ran. They were found about 8 a.m. hiding on a patio in a residential neighborhood across the street, Ficacci said.

Nearby schools were locked down as a precaution, but those restrictions have been lifted.

The eastern portion of the mall remains closed because of the investigation.

Police were still sorting out the details and have not said how many shots were fired. One gun was found on the dead man. Another was found on the man taken into custody.

The names of those involved have not been released. The security guard and the store manager were not harmed, police said.

Me neither. I wonder if the suspects were armed...or at least how smashing glass doors escalated into gunfire.

It mentions in the article that there was an exchange of gunfire, so apparently the bad guys had guns. Chalk one up for the good guys....

Meanwhile, the robbers are shooting at him...So what if a robber got shot in the head.

So when was the last time that you heard of a person killing an animal for food. We are not just politically correct but so out of touch with reality. Its an exercise in will power to actually take an animals life with your own hands.

People just want the world to be a utopia  where the security guard pulls out his phaser  and stun them but first he had his personal shield up just in case. :D

What a bunch of winey gun-control people in here, the only down side was that the other two involved weren't shot and killed now they get to cost the tax payers more money in court which will be a hell of a lot more than the two the bullets would have cost.

From article:

The male suspects and their alleged female accomplice then got into a silver Acura that crashed while still inside the shopping center's parking lot, Facicci said, noting that one of the men was driving and he died in the crash. He appears to have been killed by a bullet that went through the passenger window, Chula Vista Police said.

This explains the headshot as the driver was sitting in the car and they were likely still firing at the guard while attempting to get away.

And that is precisely why people who have concealed weapon permits are trained in the legal ramifications of carrying a firearm in the public arena. We don't carry firearms to "save the day". We carry firearms to save our lives. Legally, I cannot get involved in a shooting that doesn't directly involve me.. I have no idea what is going on and could just as easily be shooting an undercover cop as a miscreant.

I was born and raised in San Diego, and yes I've been to Chula Vista (Chula Juana), and National City (Nasty City), scummy areas near the Tijuana border. I'm NOT at all surprised by this.

I'm sure some locals of those scummy areas may chime in.

That being said, it really doesn't specify in the article, but a lot of the Apple stores I've been to have off duty cops standing by the doors during business hours, not sure about before they open.

Very sad. Someone lost their life over something so trivial. And sad that the guard has to live with knowing he took a life. :(

Happens about 2,000,000 times a year. Check the FBI stats if you don't believe me. You don't hear much about that because (A) our media doesn't like to report "good" shootings, and (B) about 97% of the time no shooting is required, as the criminal gets the idea quick and stops threatening innocents in a hurry.
