ATV3 is driving me insane with random disconnects

No on the Apple TV, my AirPlay from iPads / phones is dead until I turn off Bluetooth.

And it is relevant in that they use the same chipset and that they are actually running multiple Ssids to handle home kit. Disabling Bluetooth turns off these bits of the network stack.

The link you sent clearly talks about the issue affecting a Mac Pro\Macbook Pro, NOT an iPad.

You go turn off your bluetooth if that works for you. Sorry if I don't accept having to turn off my bluetooth to be able to use my product as it's designed to be used.

I had these problems over a year ago. I have more or less giving up on homesharing. I really like my Apple products, except for home sharing. I stream movies from my NAS to my ATV now, not a perfect solution but at least it works reliable.

I have tried numerous solutions (resetting ATV, router, settings; set fixed IP address; other router configurations; check WiFi; open ports etc...) Some work, but mostly only for a few days.

My ATV still has firmware 5.3 running, because I had a lot of problems with 6 (slow loading, stuttering, ...). I guess I can upgrade and probably I will, but for my use it is not needed (and why fix what isn't broken?).

Insofar as Bonjour is a special (link-local) flavour of DNS. And HomeSharing is heavily dependent on Bonjour Service Discovery (see home-sharing in DNS SRV (RFC 2782) Service Types).
There is also a Wide-Area Bonjour in existence, but HS specifically restricts itself to local LAN segment only.
In Apple OS-s it was implemented in mDNSresponder until with Yosemite, they rewrote it completely and replaced with discoveryd.

Oh I was never having that much of an issue it just always failed at inopportune times. I just watched through 3 shows without issue, then made the change, and watched through 3 more shows without issue, so there's no baseline for me to compare to. I don't think this has any bearing on the issue though, because the DNS is completely unrelated given all the communication is done within the local network, so there's no domain names to resolve, and thus should have no bearing on the playing of Home Share movies within the network.

If the DNS was the issue, then we'd only hear from people having issues with Comcast... or AT&T... or Time Warner... but we're hearing from people having issues with all internet providers... heck, even if I disconnected my internet completely I still had intermittent disconnects to the home share devices...

I'll remain cautiously optimistic until I can either run stable for a couple weeks... and report back.
 
Makes sense, maybe I was just lucky yesterday but I can't remember being able to watch longer than 10-15 minutes I one piece...

False alarm, home sharing is broke again.
 
Not sure if your using a windows/laptop or Macbook. One thing i did that seemed to help was make sure my network adapters on my laptop in the device manager were NOT set to "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power". Once I unchecked that box my appletv has stayed connected for over a week now. Good Luck

Yeah I turned that off a long time ago. LOL
 
Working ok

Ok so I gave Yosemite another chance on my iTunes server. I updated this morning, updated to the latest patch and immediately followed the instructions from the Apple support article that says to rename the computer. I have not had any issues today and I've definitely woke it from sleep a few times accessing movies from Apple TV.

I will follow up if the situation changes over the next couple days.

Some Success Restoring Stability

This problem has been really frustrating for me since the last ATV updates. I have 3 ATV3s and 2 ATV2s. The ATV2s have been pretty stable, but the ATV3s would not connect to my iTunes library on my MacPro running latest release of Yosemite and iTunes. All ATVs are running the latest version available to it.

Any time my ATV3 would go to sleep it would lose the connection to the library and the only way I could get it back was to restart the ATV3. That worked 75% of the time, but sometimes I would have to close then open the iTunes app, or even reboot the computer.

Over the weekend I tried a bunch of changes to the MAC, changed computer name, library name, etc., and started running the iTunes library from an account with administrator priveleges. Since I made this change late Saturday, I have not had any library disconnects, and the environment has stabilized again.
 
Just adding that my AppleTV experiences have also been awful (save for my PlexConnect setup).

Airplay is so nonfunctional that I've totally switched to streaming Audio to a Chromecast instead
 
I've updated 2 atv3s (pre wifi direct) and a last gen AirPort Extreme.
I suffered the 'Apple TV is not connected to the network' issue when connected Ethernet. It was intermittent but I always had to revert to wifi.

I figured lets update everything. Got the newest AirPort Extreme and the newest Apple TV. One is still doing that issue. It's insane.

My ps4 and Xbox one work flawlessly next to it. Mac min is also hard wired.
Go figure. I just gave up and am using wifi now.
