I spoke to an Apple Employ at chatstone over the weekend inside JB HI-FI..

He said things i already know.. like there is going to be an Apple Store at chadstone.. (Apple still hasn't officially said anything)... and also about the Sydney Apple store.

When asked about the iPhone he said "sometime later this year" is that a hint it may not be out in early June?

Better Pictures Apple Store Melbourne (Not to bad considering it was taken with a ***** old phone aye):

The buildings around it look like old 1800s buildings. The Apple glass cube will look out of place just like in some American cities.

They are 1800s buildings but the glass front will fit in brilliantly.

That's pretty much how Sydney is set up, old convict areas with gleaming new stuff right next to it.

I reckon they should put one in Tauranga - there are lots of rich people there :D

No, but seriously, it's a great place. And not just because I live there.

One more thing: This is my first post! I've been following Mac Rumours for a couple of months, and have finally decided to speak / sign up.

Always nice to have more kiwis on the boards. Welcome

Why another in Sydney? The thing that really cheeses me off about Apple is why they would open up two stores in close proximity in one city! Take the UK for example, there are 2 Apple stores in Manchester and one in Sheffield. Stupid!!! 3 stores so close together. The next northern store is in Glasgow!!! If you happen to live in Newcastle upon Tyne (which is one of the UK's nicest cities by the way) then you have a 2.5 hour drive to the nearest store. The centre of Newcastle, in particular "Grey Street" is perfect for an Apple Store. Then there's the metro centre in Gateshead.

Here's a picture of Grey Street

So, is there a logical reason as to why Apple would have so many stores in close proximity? And why is that better than spreading the stores further apart, thus being exposed to more customers?

Hmm, I guess the Genius bar will always be pretty tightly booked with only one store around :(

No way, RAW vegemite on toast can't be beaten. (no margarine spread)

no, no, no youve got it all wrong! vegemite lightly spreaded on a piece of toast with lots of BUTTER… mmmm and a black espresso to down it down.

Cesspit?

sydney is the cest pit of Australia

GO MELBOURNE

It's great. I cannot understand why there are several negative votes for this.
Also, I am not sure about Melbourne, but in Sydney, they actually do have waste management. Which is what Cesspit means, the disposal of liquid waste and sewage. Damn, bit smelly in Melbourne?

seconded :)

But where could they put it? Auckland's CBD is sad, trashy and full of bums. South is worse. West is cheap. North shore - not dense enough for the kind of foot traffic an Apple Store would require. Bah, I'm moving to Oz (like every other kiwi).

Auckland - nah. Wellington - yes! After all its the IT professional capital of NZ.
All jibes aside, I think I may have found the only and only valid reason ever to visit 'Sudnae'. I could never be bothered with it before.

I reckon Perth should be a go.

With the mining boom in Western Australia the average income is now well over AUD$60000 P.A. That is a lot of disposable income at hand. I'm sure Apple could do quite well there. Plus, Perth is just better than the rest of Australia.

Cheers.

@mangis
Will they sell Vegemite?

Apple Vegemite... sounds bloody awful.

Now if they could just open an apple store in New Zealand...

Westfield Albany but other than that I think we are actually too small to warrant an actual Apple store. One on the Gold Coast in the Surfers Paradise Mall would be awesome. I was just over there last week.

Yay Tauranga! :) I'm thinking Bayfair. On the weekends the place is pumping. Main Beach is only good for the latte set on the sunny weekends though... Perhaps The Lakes? :-D

Getting back to Auckland, Newmarket would be the best bet. Better parking and a much higher golden wallet count than the CBD or other satellite malls... I did hear rumours that they were sniffing around Lower Queen Street now that Gucci has moved in..

Er... How is an apple store different from Mac1 or from the online Mac Australia store???

If you think there's alot of bums downtown Auckland, you really should take a trip overseas! Auckland is tame and pretty tidy really (once they finish the roadworks)...

One of the nicest cities in the UK!?!?

Apple does carefully pick where they put stores, they make the first decision based on the local affluence, any future stores in that area are usually based on the foot traffic of the existing stores.
