I was very surprised to read that this will be the first :apple: Store south of the Equator. Not just in Australia or New Zealand, but when you think about the massive population in South America (Rio, Sau Paulo, Buenos Aires), not to mention South Africa, that is a large market that's completely unserved by Apple at the retail level.

I know the standard of living is generally lower in some of those areas, but it still seems like this would be a large opportunity for expansion for :apple: in the next decade or so.

I was surprised about that, too. I was walking around Buenos Aires when I saw what I thought was an Apple store. This was in the Recoleta area, which is where the old money Argentinians live. When I peered inside, it was decorated almost like a US apple store, except of the small space of course. I guess it could have been just an authorized reseller.

Walking around in BA, there was a lot of people with apple earphones on, so there are people who can at least afford ipods.

oh HEY MATY!!!! i didnt know you joined MR! ill be speaking to ya soon :p

i already have a 24incher! and not much money. i could offer you $300 for it lol

you clearly are not an aussie.....

i work there :(, dont mention that again :p

or even nextbyte. nextbyte is gonna loose SO much business if more apple stores are brought out... theyve been so good to us and had the majority of sales.

is that now nextbyte??

hope thats not an insult...

australia is TOO far behind in technology. we need all that we can get to boost our technoloy. + we get excited easily.

Sorry, dude. I suppose it could have been seen as an insult, but after I cooled down a few minutes after sending it I realized the comment was made out of frustration. We're all at a breaking point right now and posting these rumors and info threads that have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do DIRECTLY with the iphone update isn't helping!!

I am constantly amazed at how a company with such unsavory and unscrupulous marketing practices can still keep its customer base intact. Because you just KNOW what they're planning: to release a half-a$$ updated product that omits many of the features that they are WELL AWARE need to be included (based on customers' feedback), charge you an arm and a leg for it, then over the course of the next 6 months - 1 year gradually implement those "strategically overlooked" features in "strategically updated" products which, of course, you won't be able to resist...and you'll shell out another unnecessary lump of cash for the so-called "new and improved" product when they could have just included the f*$#!#! features to begin with!!!!

That's what they do. That's how they make their money. The f*@#$! buttholes!! For a prime example, enter the Macbook Pro (with the new trackpad). Can you imagine having just shelled out nearly $3000 for the 1st version then these buttholes introduce one of their infamous "updates" that only includes a new trackpad feature?!!!! And of course you can't take your "old" Macbook and get it updated; instead, you have to buy a whole new f*$!#$ notebook to get the new feature. Unfreakinbelievable.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Not long now.

It's about time that there was an Apple store built in Australia. There should have been onethere long ago. Apple is the primary computer reseller in Australia so I dont see why they didnt build one there sooner.

naah thats cool man. everything seems to revolve around the iphone... i wish people would be just a bit more patient, it will come when its ready. this is a pretty big milestone in australia, so people in our country are excited!

well i PERSONALLY know the experience of the MBP. i bought the CD MBP, cost me $3500 (i saved up for 2 years in highschool) only to find the laptop being upgraded to C2D 5 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT IT!!!

of course i wasnt aware that i could have taken it back within 14days, but because there was no apple store...... u get the picture. (i dont think nextbyte takes them back).

apple is apple, they get away with everything because people buy the products for something different (as opposed to winblows). thats the reason why my dad uses them, and the reason why i will continue to use them.

take for example, i built myself a PC a month ago. could not get the activation to work from day one. FINALLY (after talking to an indian) made him realise that the XP had only been activated 3 times and got it working. then i bought a DVD burner and put that in... and xp stopped booting... so you know.. f^&k windows. (this is all within the month of building it!).

there are many many reasons why macs are doing well, mainly because they are "thinking different" and they "just work" from my experience.

extra stuff: i think that the sydney store is just a tester for australia, if sales/profits are good i daresay they will be building more and more stores in australia. even though there are already heeeeeps around.

I used to work on the 12 or so floor of that building, not sure on the current lay out apple is going to use, the lower area was a Westpac bank branch and it had two levels, ground floor and a mezzanine level recessed away from the windows.

Will be interesting for me to see how they lay it out. Though it might be 2 years before I get back down there to check it out myself.

Actually, we aint short of mac stores. There are heaps of them, some of them are pretty fancy too, not in the same league as what I have seen in pictures of US Apple stores but offering a good experience nevertheless.

I would imagine they might be feeling glum about this company store. There isn't enough price competition for apple gear so I wonder if they'll be doing better deals than the Apple store?

It's all good for consumers though, as an apple store will have its own wow factor luring in people naive to the wonders of Apple technology.

I hope you realise that Indians and Chinese population are driving the worlds technologies, markets and economies today.....

India has a growing R&D base for technologies second to none.... Inc Intel all major IT companies have their R&Ds moved to India....

So before referring "Indian" take a look at any gadget that you are holding and any technology you lay your hands on. Make sure that an Indian was not involved with it in anyways..... Coz thats where it evolved from....

Suck it up Maty!

Amen to that, sick of hearing people whinge about phone support bases in India - that's where all the knowledge is folks.

Hang on, what if he meant an American Indian - then he should have said "Native American".

Oh I don't know these days, it's all too confusing. All I know is that as long as the person I'm talking to knows what they're talking about I couldn't give two hoots about where they came from.

If they don't know what they're talking about then they'd better not be Dutch. There are only two things I hate in this world - people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

I love panadeine forte. It roxors my soxors.

I hope that you at least got Applecare so that you can get the caps key fixed.

oh whats wrong with the caps?? i only got 1 year applecare, and thats clearly gone.

uummm i wasnt saying that there was anything wrong with india, nor the people in the country (they play very high quality cricket :D). i was just stating that i had to talk to the person, and i had a bit of trouble understanding him (as SO many people have experienced) and that was a problem for me. what was also a problem was the fact that i had to reinstall xp after only having it up for a day...

nothing against the indian culture at all..

anyways,, enough digressing!

oi, I WASNT WHINGING!

I dunno man, I reckon you were whinging.

I could also be just a little fuzzy in the head - my arms are a bit gooey too but the killer headache I've had all day is rapidly becoming a distant memory.

Right, now I have to go to the toilet.

youre right, i am whinging.

im whinging at the amount of time it took for the stupid M$ phone to automatically answer me, then press the right buttons to get to the actual human on the other end.

i am not, however, whinging at the person on the other end.

now its your turn, stop whinging about your headache.

Interrupting the current flame war to say...

The first (and most likely last) time I'll ever ninja MR

Not really a flame war.

We had one guy who was being all X Files and the second India-related lot of posts were really just a couple of Aussies having a friendly dig.

Nobody's really flaming.

Yay Tauranga! :) I'm thinking Bayfair. On the weekends the place is pumping. Main Beach is only good for the latte set on the sunny weekends though... Perhaps The Lakes? :-D

Getting back to Auckland, Newmarket would be the best bet. Better parking and a much higher golden wallet count than the CBD or other satellite malls... I did hear rumours that they were sniffing around Lower Queen Street now that Gucci has moved in..

When did you hear those rumours?

Now how about two more apple stores....

One in Mumbai.... (thats where the Bollywood is) and one in Auckland, New Zealand and I have my bases covered :D
