Australian iPhone Pre-Order and Shipping Thread

Hello.

I'm from the UK, visiting Australia in November and I have a few questions regarding purchasing the X whilst out there.

1. Can I order online for in store pickup?
2. Will the phone work on UK networks when I get home?
3. Can I claim tax back on an iPhone, and if so, is this done in store or at the airport?

1. You can order an iPhone for in-store pickup (but you need to check the store stock before hand). When you are ordering, and select pickup, it will tell you if which locations are available. I ordered my iPhone 7 when pre-orders started and picked it up on launch day at the Apple Store in George Street Sydney.

2. The iPhone is an international phone, so you should have no problems in the UK. I've used my iPhone in London and Edinburgh before without any issues.

3. You can get your GST back (provided you take the item out of the country within 60 days). You need a tax invoice (with your name on the invoice as it is over $1000). You claim the refund at the airport when leaving as they will want to inspect the item. There are more details here: http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Tour

Be warned that the lines for GST refund can be very long! Download the Tourist Refund Scheme iOS app (https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/tourist-refund-scheme/id910855751?mt=8) and fill in your information before you get to the airport. It will save you time and the line tends to be shorter.

Is anyone expecting it to be an issue to get an 8? I have got both 5s(uk) and 6s (Aus) on launch day without any issue.

With the x in the pipeline the hype doesn't seem to the same.

Honestly I don't see the 8 selling very well lol, so I don't think it'll be much of an issue. Even when it is just the one release that everyone's fighting for I've managed to get every pre-order delivered first day.

Yeah I think it should be fine, trying to decide if I even pre-order or just try my luck walking into the store next Friday

As I'm a dirty immigrant I'm not allowed any credit. I will have to take my mrs along to optus tomorrow like a child asking his mum to get him a new toy lol. I think tomorrow morning should be fine.

I wonder if you'll get it first day if you pre-order in store - whether their stock allocation will be exhausted or not by that time lol.

I ordered it Saturday morning last time and it was fine. I'm pretty skeptical about the demand being very high for this phone.
 
the Apple.com.au store has been down all day, when you go to the pricing page, is this because of pre-orders or is something else happening (like bringing those damn prices down!)

Lol, they're "getting the store ready" - they always shut it down a few hours beforehand. It'll reopen in 9 minutes when pre-orders start.
 
Pre orders for Apple 4k tv don't deliver until 6/10/2017.
Any chance I could get one in store before then or am I best just placing the order?
 
My partner just ordered a 64gb Plus (space gray) from Apple and they were giving her a shipment date of 22/9... until she ordered. Once her payment went through, it had slipped to 6/10.

She's not happy.

Give it some time. The shipment dates usually change within the first few days when everything settles and processes.

This is similar to when the ATV4 came out. I ordered one online and it had a long ship date as well (they ship from Singapore). I then went to the store and picked one up on launch day no problem. The Store even arranged to have my online order cancelled for me.

I would suggest order online, and then try your luck at the store on the day.

I ordered one, probably won't make it to the Apple Store but if I can find one at JB or something I will just cancel my pre order.
 
Was at the Optus store at 9am to pre order my phone. Ordered 8+ 256gb in Space grey. They seemed to think it would be available on launch day just fine, although I can't collect it until Saturday anyway.
 
Ordered the 8+ last night on Vodafones site, when I did the pre-check for delivery, it gave a date of 22nd of September, after I completed the order, I got a delivery date of October 3. Will be interesting to see when it actually arrives, last iPhone order they surprised me and delivered it well ahead of their estimated date of delivery.
 
Just waiting in New Zealand to preorder the iPhone X on the 27/28th Oct. ~ hope no-one minds me joining the Aussies..
