If they sold these for $5 they'd still make a huge profit on them. Why can't the wealthiest company in the world do something customer friendly for once? A lot of people would buy multiple cables at a cheaper price, too. This is pure greed!

wow, what a good company taking care of stuff under warranty.

these adapters are an absolute ripoff

koolaid...keep drinking it

The prices are what they are. Don't buy it. I'm not drinking koolaid. I'm just not buying the adapter. Apple has always charged a lot for adapters and you all freak out like it's something new everytime.

Why would anyone pay $29 to buy an adapter to use an existing 30 pin to USB cable when you can buy an entirely new lighting to USB cable for $19?

Exactly. If people would stop and think (just a little bit) one would realize that they wouldn't need to spend $29 for the adapter when the USB cable for $19 will do the same thing. Apple was clever in up-selling the adapter over the USB cable because it simply = more $$.

People are thinking, it's just that you're both on the wrong track here. The discussion isn't about connecting from a computer or USB-equipped accessory to the iPhone 5. We're talking about connecting an accessory with a 30-pin connector to the iPhone 5.

Wireless N 5GHZ vs USB 2.0

Wireless N 5Ghz is still slower than USB 2.0. I hope apple makes a thunderbolt/lightning cable or a usb3.0/lightning cable. I will buy a cable before I pay for iCloud storage.

I'm waiting a few weeks for monoprice to come out with an adapter and cables.

I refuse to reward apple's price gouging with a purchase, even if it means letting some accessories sit for awhile.

Is seriously don't see the outrage. They ARE giving you an wall plug which essentially is the USB to Lightning cord. They ARE a company that is wanting to make money (regardless of how much they have already). If you are outraged than wait till third party manufacturers make them cheap. You still have the one cord.

it's just cables, it is still better than nokia announce the new lumia 920 without pricing and date

I wonder if the camera kit USB to 32 pin dock adapter will work with the lightning to USB cable? It may not be the best solution, but it maybe an option to hold people over till October?

They don't have enough cables yet for the people who are willing to pay the Monster-ous prices. There's no way for them to make it up in volume when the volume isn't there.

You have a male dock connector and a female USB port on the CCK. The cable has a male USB and male lightning. With this you would end up with a male lightening plug on one end and a male dock connector on the other. Good idea, but it wouldn't work.

Why are people taking this so personally?
They changed the dock connector, they're offering the ability for those who would like it the choice of purchasing an adapter to use the products they purchased for use with a past product. Should I be complaining and asking for a new free bumper too?

while we wait, lots of us are going to be dragging around our only lightning cable. to car, to work, to home, rinse, repeat.

That doesn't have anything to do with iCloud. Wireless can also be used to sync with your computer. And the point of 5 GHz is having two independent WiFi networks, because any WiFi network can run only as fast as the slowest device on it, so if you have devices that don't have Wireless N, then all those devices use the 2.4 GHz, while all the fast devices use 5.0 GHz.

And with Wireless N, your speed is probably limited by the speed of the flash memory in the iPod.

Not necessarily true ... do you know if the 30-pin adapter include Digital-To-Analog electronics to convert digital signal to analog audio, to allow backward compatibility with analog docks ?

If wifi syncing was faster, I wouldn't want a usb3 or thunderbolt cable, so it does matter to me. Also my sync takes up more than the amount they give away for free, so it does have something to do with my decision to buy it or not.

Lightning cable

There's no way I'm spending $19 or whatever for a USB cable. They're made for like .20. I'm going to wait until they show up on ebay for .50 a piece.

Only Apple could create a proprietary connector, name it Lightning, hype its benefits over all else, sell it for mucho dinero and make you feel like you have to buy two of them. Pure genius!

Nokia still sells phones?? ;)

Ha, cheeky.

i love how they noticed iphone cables slipping but not the imacs.. that goes to tell you what they really care about in all these rumor sites.

seriously man, what do you expect macrumors do ? do an investigative journalism ? or plant a spy on foxconn factories ?

most of the iphone leaks comes either from china or vietnam, which... you guess it, its where the factories are. the iMac leaks would seem unlikely. as you known when the RMBP announce, no one knew what it would look like before.

iphone interest on the general public is really high, no wonder there are so many leaks.

There's a thread in the iPhone sections that shows that Apple is including one adapter w/ purchase of the iPhone 5 to folks outside the United States. I didn't see this when I purchased earlier this morning, but I used the iOS app.

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/15668307/

That deal, I believe is to satisfy the micro USB standard in the EU. There is a Lightning to Micro USB adapter sold exclusively outside the US
