Twentieth Century Fox today announced the upcoming debut of an exclusive iTunes Extras special edition version of the film Avatar, bringing several new interactive features including the ability to deconstruct scenes to see how they were made and a "Green Screen X-ray" that allows users to easily see the original green screen footage behind certain scenes.
Fans can experience the global box office sensation like never before as they control scene deconstructions in simultaneous views. This new feature will also enable consumers to interact with the performance capture and visual effects levels in 17 of the film's scenes. For the first time ever, Green Screen X-ray gives users an interactive look through the visual effects levels to see the original green screen footage behind a pivotal scene.
Other extras include screenplay content from James Cameron and a gallery of over 1,700 images related to the film.

Avatar [iTunes Store] is available for pre-order now and will debut on December 20th. Pricing is set at $19.99 for the HD version and $14.99 for standard definition.

A basic version of Avatar was available in the iTunes Store for several months last year, but was pulled from iTunes and other digital marketplaces as an extended collector's edition of the film debuted on Blu-ray and DVD in November 2010.

So wait, we have to repurchase it?
Cameron sure likes to rip people off with the same film over and over again:mad:

But no amount of technological deconstruction can elevate that snooze-fest beyond the derivative, juvenile junk that it is. haha. :D

I read in the Guinness book of Records that every frame of this film took 48 hours to produce!

Lame that you have to repurchase it, I wish studios would stop screwing over customers like that, but I guess they do kind of exist to make money.

Anyway, I loved the movie and am ready for the sequel(s). I know, shame on me for enjoying a movie that isn't shot in black and white or in a foreign language with English subtitles.

It is a 20th Century Fox movie so it will most likely not be available in HD. I don't know why they do that, but they do.

Right now there is no HD pre-order.

Personally I thought the movie was terrible, but I'm in my thirties and I don't think the movie was made for my age group.

Why would anyone have to pre-order an app store release? Just buy it when it comes out. There will be plenty of virtual copies to go around for everyone.

Hmmm ... would be more fun if it easily enabled people to insert themselves into scenes, like some of the Stephen Colbert viewer contests.

As for the movie, the story was average. Derivative, but what isn't these days? The special effects, particularly in the 3D version, were spectacular. Truly a beautiful film.

I don't see an HD version for pre-order, only the SD version for $14.99. Wow, just like Rise of the Planet of the Apes. No HD version to purchase. Lame.

Also, another thing to note is that this version is not the extended cut found on the Blu-Ray extended collector's edition.

Not a very "special edition" if you ask me.

The iTunes "HD" version is only 720P.

I'm waiting for the 3D 1080P release.

Subtitles are for wimps. If you can't learn to speak the language before the move starts, just bring a cross language dictionary with you to the flick.

PS. It is rude to bring one of those little flashlights to a movie, so, learn to read in the dark.

:)

Um, you can also watch this on your plasma screen, or big screen LCD, or what have you.

-1 entitled to opinion but you know the saying about them

It is a movie for kids (or teenagers if you prefer). With that in mind it is good enough for it's target audience.

20th Century Fox rarely (if ever) releases movies on in iTunes in HD.
