Is this Disney's remake of Dances With Wolves?

Oh wait sorry, that was Pocahontas.

I agree that the Storyline for Avatar isn't quite original, but Lion King was also not an original. Yet, it's still a great film. Same with Avatar.

While that is true, I was thinking the comment was in reference to downloading Movies through Itunes, and a 3d 1080p itunes downloadable movie release isn't anything that will happen in the far future, i am just speculating but since their isn't any news on the issue it seems like its very far away from happening.

No, I wasn't speculating you could ever get such a thing through iTunes. I was referring to waiting for the 3D Blu-Ray.

So wait, we have to repurchase it?
Cameron sure likes to rip people off with the same film over and over again:mad:

You don't have to buy it then... what's up with all this negativity?
Who cares if the guy does whatever... it's YOUR choice NOT to buy it then... did your mother ever whoop you?

District 9 was more my cup of tea but it was worth watching for the visuals. I found out I don't like 3D. It's too distracting and hard on the eye balls.

It seems 20th Century Fox has decided to add the HD version to iTunes tonight. Hopefully this is a sign of more to come from them.

As for the rest of the pro-Avatar babble in this thread I stand by what I said. The film did win four awards for the special effects work mainly.

If you truly consider Avatar a great film by James Cameron then you must consider Titanic a master work of American cinema. :p

Seeing how as they are two of the best grossing films of all time I'd say James Cameron can do something right.

Also think about his other successes. True Lies, Terminator 1 and 2, Aliens, all very popular films.

But no amount of technological deconstruction can elevate that snooze-fest beyond the derivative, juvenile junk that it is. haha. :D

Perhaps but look at it another way.

If this sells well then we might see more movies going this way and giving us more Extras that actually resemble Blu-ray type features. As well as perhaps finally some 1080p and with luck the creation of some kind of system so that these Extras will work on iOS, at least for the Apple TV.

And then perhaps we'll even start to see some Extras for TV Season Passes, making those also more 'disk' like, better quality etc.

Such things make the prices more justified and it gives customers a real choice, physical or digital.

So while this movie is guilty pleasure junk viewing, Cameron is the balls to test this scheme so two thumbs up for that. Hell if I get my usual $200-300 in iTunes cards from the various family this year I might even buy it myself if only to encourage them to do more

Yay the HD version is up....and bought!

I'm basically buying this for the special features so I hope they are good. I already own the movie twice over. Also I'm sure the iTunes version of this is better than my rip. My rip gets pixelated for some reason : /

it cost $500 million, and 12 years to make this film, and yet they still only spent 1 week on the script. No amount of special effects, or 3D gimmickry can make a this turd into a good movie. With lines like "you're not in Kansas anymore, you're on pandora!" and place-holder names like Unobtainium used for the un-obtainable (get it?...) element, I'm surprised anyone would think this movie was worth the time to watch it much less the price of a ticket or dvd. I actually saw Cameron bowling with his kids at the lanes by my house, and it took all my self control to keep from walking over and punching him in the face for wasting 12 years of his life and 3 hours of mine on this horrable, horrable film.

Actually the development of the movie started with the script, which was in 1994. A lot of special effect, which were groundbreaking, no other movie did it like they did in Avatar before.

Therefore, I think you're trolling sir.

He's not trolling because not only do I agree with him, but I also think he's being GENEROUS.

Avatar is easily the most overrated visual jizz fest since the new star wars movies. ZERO substance.

I'll stick to regular movies with actors that play with conviction, hell I think I'll go watch American History X for the 9th time.

LOL Star Wars overrated? You have to look at this from the position of somebody just seeing the movie in 1977.

Before Star Wars - No movie had even come close to making a world so epic and so technically advanced.

The special effects, while dated today, set a new standard for film making. The characterization was superb - Luke came off as a hero in every aspect, while simply seeing Darth Vader could send chills down your spine.

The movie doesn't have this effect now because the thousands of movies to come after have made things like this a lot more common. You don't see a scifi movie today with lame special effects - it just doesn't happen.

Think of old cowboy movies. People use to love those things - but have you ever watched one? You probably didn't think it was as great as they did back then.

Put simply: Star Wars is simply a part of popular culture - whether or not it's "good" by today's standards is irrelevent.

And, no, I'm not a huge star wars fan.

I think you just didn't like Star Wars and use the term Overrated because a lot of people liked it and that's ok.

I believe the person you were responding to was referring to the NEW star wars films, not the originals. The new star wars movies are considered to be crap by most. The original trilogy was great. Even Jedi was better than the new ones. Why is that? It's because the scripts were better. Avatar was visually stunning, but without a good script, it should be in the dollar bin at best buy. Movie making is just modern story telling. The effects are there only to tell the story. If the story sucks, the movie sucks.

Somehow I think this is completely made up.

Its ok if you don't like the movie, but zero substance? Hardly. You must not understand the giant message (actually multiple messages) behind it.

Again, people on this thread keep saying how bad this movie is yet its still the top grossing film of all time, and nearing 1 trillion dollars in revenue:

Not made up. Totally true. I live in Santa Monica, CA, and I work in the film industry. I was bowling with some people who had worked with him before. They went over to say hi, but I stayed back with the rest because I didn't want to say or do something I would regret.

I kinda agree, Revenge of the Sith was a good movie, not great, but good. :p

Avatar does have a good script too.

:D

Also, Lion King wasn't original either, but was a great movie.

Also, this is one of the main problems with hollywood today. People seem to think $$$=good. Just because it made money doesn't make it a good movie. American Idol is (or was for a long time) the top rated tv show in the country, and it is pure crap.

Avatar got nominated for 9 Oscars. One of which was for Best Picture.

Just because it was nominated for an oscar doesn't make it a good movie. There is a lot of politics involved in getting a nomination. Also it looked great and sounded great. The art direction was great. There was a lot of good in that film. But the script sucked, so it was all a waste of time.

What makes something a good movie? You like it? That makes it great? People use money and awards, not because they're the best measure, but because everything else is personal opinion.

Notsureifsrs, getting nominated for an Oscar only happens to Great movies.

The script didn't suck. It was a good script, not original, yeah, but good.
