The thing about watches, they are supposed to get wear and tear. Just because you get a little bit of grime on it does not ruin the Watch!! Often times, it gives it class. It has a story to tell. Next time you see the mark you remember what was happening at the time. Of course, I guess this is all a matter of opinion, but this is a piece of fashionable tech you wear on your wrist. It's going to get marks on it,of course! If you want to keep it pristine then keep it in the box in the back of your closet. He just got mad because his edition got grim on it and he could not figure out how to get it off. Now somehow the Hermès is such a better AW and totally worth the premium it cost. He makes complete sense.
That being said, I also understand the disappointment of having something you love for a day and it gets blemished. You should see my original AW, the steel body is totally covered in little tiny scratches/marks and I like it just as much as day 1. It bothered me at first whenever I would bang it on a wall. I felt like I had to be careful all the time, but it's a device I live my life with now and there's no other AW out there like mine(on the outside anyway)!
I have the Hermes coming in the mail soon and I'm not planning on keeping it spotless. It's going to go swimming with me, running, hiking etc. The watch I have now I will just use for work. I would hate to let a few marks ruin the experience of owning it, that's for sure.
