I want them to be happy, and they will be, but it's just, I think about the look on their faces when iPad 2 is unveiled in just a couple months, and it tears me up inside. :(

Wish I wasn't such a thoughtful, caring guy.

I sell iPads to people on a daily basis and I have to say, most people don't care when the next one is coming out. When someone does ask about the next model, I always say:

"Does the iPad fill your needs now? If so, buy it. If it doesn't, don't. It's not going to lose functionality when iPad 2 comes out."

Maybe 1 in 20 walk away because they want to wait 4 *insert rumoured release date* for *insert rumored feature here*. Nutters. There will ALWAYS be something better around the corner. Going through life feeling like you're missing out or superior because you waited/didn't wait is just sad.

If there was official word that an iPad 2 was coming out very early next year, I might have thought twice about buying my iPad last week. However, it is just rumors for now and I have no regrets on buying it last week. I am very happy with it. I don't care about cameras in a new device. I barely use the ones on my phone. Of course, maybe in a year or so I could get the next gen, but for now I don't care and am happy with my purchase.

Why would anyone care how their faces look like or how they feel. It is their decision and money, let them eat it.

Outdated, kind of. Apple has a history of making new features only available for the newest, even if the old ones are capable hardware wise if we can learn from the iphone

This is my only worry. I will be getting enough cash/visa giftcards for Christmas to buy my iPad and I'm not worried that I won't have the latest. My only concern is if Apple bumps the resolution up a little, where does that leave the current iPad owners when it comes to new apps and resolution support? That is my only worry.

It's easy to feel that you need the current model of everything, but most generally you don't.

I have an iPhone 3gs and have no interest in the iPhone 4. It doesn't offer anything that I need.

I am not planning to get an iPad 2 as none of the rumoured features would add much for me. Possibly if the new chip/RAM combination made it a lot quicker (I have a large database which can be a little slow to build one or two reports) then I would consider it, but it's unlikely to be worth it.

If I didn't have an iPad then, knowing what it can do, I would go and buy one today even with the knowledge that there will likely be a new one out in the next few months.

LOGIC: Why buy an iPhone 5 in June? The iPhone 6 is just gonna come out next year. But why buy that? The iPhone 7 is slated for June 2013? Of course, only suckers will buy that when the iPhone 8 arrives 2014!

There is a difference between buying a product and then a new one coming a year or half a year later, or something that will be announced only a few weeks later.

I agree though, most people actually buying the iPads are the types that won't even hear or care about the new iPad.

I think the only people who care about this are those rabid fanboys who need to have the latest and greatest Apple product. A regular consumer would just go oh, oh well.

A REGULAR consumer would just go cha-CHING! Discount!

Only posters on this board would see the iPad 1 as a paperweight.

No need to Awwwww for me, i bought one yesterday, brand new 16 GB for a third off the price they are from the apple store (nothing dodgy, unwanted competition prize)

If you keep waiting, you'll never get anything and by 2100 you'll still have no iPad. Now which is more sad.

I'm from the year 2100 and just got my iPad! The iPad 91 is pretty neat though I would have liked a retina display and flash support.

I was about to post this very comic. Genius.

I will still be buying the iPad 2 because when i bought the 1st gen i could only afford the 16GB. I'll be able to save up more by the time the second gen comes out so I'll be getting the highest storage available. That is the only reason. Ill give my gen one to my girlfriend or my son.

It's nice to have the disposable income to purchase the ipad2 even if I just bought an ipad1, plus there is always craigslist. We should put together a charity for the OP, being such a thoughtful caring forum.

And here I was hoping you had disappeared from these forums, OP. Kind of a lull there, huh? I'm Xcited to see what you come up with for your next iPad bashing thread...

I got my iPad a few weeks before the first trickles of iPad 2 rumors began to flood the forums. I could have taken it back right then and waited for the next gen...but why? I LOVE my iPad for all it does. I don't need a front facing camera and seriously, a back facing camera on a tablet is laughable. Faster processor? I don't really feel that a faster processor would benefit my use at all. Thinner and lighter? I thought I wanted that with the new iPod Touch but would have been happier if that had been designed sturdier like the new iPhone. So, to each his own, I suppose. I don't feel sorry for anyone who receives such awesomeness as a gift and didn't hesitate when my dad asked about purchasing one for my mum for Christmas. I know she will love it and won't be biting her nails over what "might" be in rumored upgrades.

It leaves current iPad users exactly where they are now. Don't buy a product available now for a 'rumoured' future feature for the next iPad. If it doesn't do what you want it to do now, wait. Patience is your friend.

Please don't waste any energy feeling sorry for me. As an early Ipad recipient for Christmas I couldn't be happier. I knew full well that Ipad2 will be out next year and really couldn't care less. I love it! You'll either be broke or waiting forever if all you want is the latest and greatest Apple toy.

Like some one else pointed out, it will leave us where iPhone 3Gs users are right now with the resolution increase of the iPhone 4. The apps won't stop working for us. They just won't look quite as sharp.

Yea well I'm getting one for Christmas. When iPad 2 comes out, I'm selling it and buying the 2. Actually, I"ll sell my 1 when I first get alerted to the keynote.

I own an iPad 16GB Wifi model but I decided that I needed a bit more storage, so I ordered today the 32GB 3G model. The older iPad is going to my father :)
When the ipad 2 comes, I will of course buy it and sell the old one.

I'm about to order an iPad on eBay right now.

I'll either just keep it and suck up the minor loss, or sell it right back on ebay when rumors start to get really hot about the ipad 2. I'd be without an iPad for a little while, but that won't kill me.

Bought a 16 gig wifi only refurb this morning from apple. I thought I could wait for rev. 2 but I decided I couldn't. I figure rev. 1 will have 90%-95% of the functionality of rev.2, and that is enough. Don't care about the cameras. Also I think Apple will wait until April to even keynote the next one so as not to tick off all the Christmas owners.

Fully agree with the OP. But I'm sure most people won't care. And a February release seems too soon.

A couple days ago it was that I had a chance to play with an iPad. I think I have to get one next year when it hopefully has become a bit lighter and equipped with a frontfacing camera.
