I agree! Great gift! Wish someone would give me an ipad for Christmas. Guess I'll be waiting for the iPad 2 since I have to PAY for it myself.:(
that's true, but the people who gifted it to them probably won't like to hear them complain that they want a new model in a couple of months. That said, it is still a great gift.

I know how you feel. I had to buy mine for myself since I don't know anyone who would give a gift that cost that much. Most of the people I know like to buy a lot of littler gifts so that people have much more than 1 present to open.

I also will be receiving an ipad this Christmas....as sad as I will be when ipad 2 comes out, I know that I will still love my upad with all my heart.

That's not creepy.

You're a lucky man. I have to wait til the 25th =/

Hmm I have to wait for a negative 3.5 months :p

Let's cut the crap.

Who cares? Sure the iPad 2 will have more features, but the first iPad will be just as useful.

Sorry buddy, but ur attempt to be funny = FAIL

No it won't be JUST as useful, it won't have a camera. That makes a big difference.

Let's face it, the camera was a V1 feature that was not included for some reason. So, many people are holding off until the iPad is the way it "should've been" in the first place.

We're not holding off indefinitely until "2100", we're holding off until we feel we get our money's worth.

As for getting it as a gift (btw, a GIFT is inherently FREE, calling it a FREE gift is just being redundant), I would be completely happy, I would though, feel bad for the person who bought it for me when a better version comes out soon after. They would probably feel "if I'd only waited a few months". But that's the game with tech.

As for the current iPad, it's amazing all on its own. For me, the lack of a camera for webchat (I do it everyday to keep in touch in Japan) is a complete deal breaker. Obviously for others it's not.

Lastly, FAIL is a verb. A person FAILS, but a failed attempt is a FAILURE. Let's try to speak like non-moronic humans ok?

I want them to be happy, and they will be, but it's just, I think about the look on their faces when iPad 2 is unveiled in just a couple months, and it tears me up inside. :(

Wish I wasn't such a thoughtful, caring guy.

Got a 16 gig wifi for my 15 year old today, not really a big thing, i will upgrade mine when new one comes out , love craigslist

Let me guess. Judging by your inane comment, You're in Japan teaching English and think you're more qualified to give grammar lessons on the internet?

There's no reason to be an ass.

Great thread!

Like many here, as gift I received an early iPad for Christmas.
I was on the fence as to whether open it up or return and wait for the next one.
But like has been said many times over...
When the iPad 2 comes out, I'm going to want to wait for Ipad 3, etc...

You wanna wait for I2 to come out, good for you.
I have no need for a camera.

I'll open up my iPad now and start to enjoy it.
You keep waiting for next one... and next one... and next one...

Oh boy this makes you look cool ;)

I think the only people who care about this are those rabid fanboys who need to have the latest and greatest Apple product. A regular consumer would just go oh, oh well.

Well, perhaps. I don't want to be in a situation where the 3G users were when a new OS was released only and only to have apple say they will fix the issue later by stripping some of the functionality.

2 months for ipad 2, we can wait.

Awwww @ people with sour grapes syndrome.

There will always be new technology coming out. Maybe some people can afford to get the latest tech? Or maybe some people use a product for what it does, not what a future product might do?

I would be perfectly happy with a first gen iPad. Camera? Who will actually use a rear facing camera on such a big device? As far as front facing camera, it seems a logical step considering Facetime, but I haven't ONCE used Facetime or my front facing camera on my iPhone 4 so it's honestly not a big deal to me...

Unless the iPad 2 has some really cool features that the 1st gen doesn't have I really wouldn't upgrade to one. iPad 3 is going to be the big jump tech wise, but this upcoming 2nd gen not so much.

i am getting excited with ipad2 now because i can get the ipad1 cheap at ebay after the release.
i will leave the ipad2 to stevie's guinea pigs.

I feel bad for the people that have waited for the Verizon iPhone.... since 2007.

I also feel bad for the people who are assuming the next iPad is that close to launch and might be waiting months for it (and then probably disappointed with a glaring missing feature they expected).

Yeah everytime I see someone looking at an iPad at the store I feel like telling them "please wait". Because the great Steve jobs will prob announce the new one by the end of January.

Spoiler alert: The rev A iPads will continue to work when the Rev B iPads are announced and then released.

As long as we are correcting others...

First line...There should be a comma after "No." There should be a period after "useful," and "it" should be capitalized.

Continuing on..."2100" should not be in quotation marks. There should be a period after "2100," and "we're" should be capitalized.

Third paragraph...There should be a period after "gift." The thoughts expressed parenthetically can actually stand alone as their own sentence. No need for parentheses. There should be a period after "FREE," and "calling" should begin a new sentence.

I could go on. It just never ceases to amaze me how Internet message boards seem to bring out the English teacher in many people but comically, they often make far greater mistakes in the posts in which they correct others.

I make plenty of mistakes on my posts, but I also don't go around looking to correct.

Remind me to haunt you about this when it's not released or even announced in January! shhhhhh......
