When the first iPads came out, they were only 16GB. I said I'd wait until next year when they got larger drives.

I just found out today they not only have 32GB, but 64GB models, so I bought a 64GB iPad with 3G. :)

Fully agree with the OP. But I'm sure most people won't care. And a February release seems too soon.

A couple days ago it was that I had a chance to play with an iPad. I think I have to get one next year when it hopefully has become a bit lighter and equipped with a frontfacing camera.

Februrary too soon? Hell I hope it comes out in Jan which I doubt it would, I can't wait to get my hands on one lol

They've always had the 32 and 64 models. It was in his keynote speech as well.

Some people just won't care. I got my dad an iPad for Chanukkah. The first thing I said when he saw it was "Dad, the new iPad is supposed to come out in a month or so. I'd return it and wait if I were you." He didn't care. He proceeded to bite open the shrink wrap.

LOGIC: Why buy an iPhone 5 in June? The iPhone 6 is just gonna come out next year. But why buy that? The iPhone 7 is slated for June 2013? Of course, only suckers will buy that when the iPhone 8 arrives 2014!

Brilliant! You nailed it. After this comment, I think this thread should be wrapped up. Actually, I think this could be the response to 90% of the threads on this forum. Technology continues to evolve. We know this. If you like a product, BUY IT! Do not sit and wait for something that still has yet to be announced! If that is your logic, you will never stop waiting. I could not believe the day that I bought the iPad (release day of the 3G) there were already forums up on this site about the iPad 2 and how that will be better!

I have said it before, but Apple is a very stubborn company. Aside from a few additions, the products do not really change drastically upon new releases. Take iPhone for example... The first generation phone is still fully capable. The most drastic change was in the iPhone 4! I have bought every new phone on release day (Even before the iPhone, I updated my phone annually) but I think what people forget is that the resale value of Apple products is HUGE! If the iPad 2 comes out and you decide to upgrade, just sell your old one.

Trust me... If you think that you would like the iPad, do NOT sit and wait for the next generation. The one that is available now is incredible! JUST BUY IT!

Yeah... I am not sure where you get your information but it is wrong. The iPad came out with 16, 32, and 64 gig models on release day. All of the models were announced in the original keynote in both Wi-Fi and 3G, but 3G however was not available until a month after the Wi-Fi model.

Okay I'm sorry but I have NEVER understood this argument. Yes, we all want the latest and greatest but at some point you have to dive in and make a purchase. Considering the new iPad's probably won't be out until April-ish four months at the top of the tech tree for a product is actually pretty damn good these days. Just as a 'for instance' a brief and incomplete list of christmas presents that'll be outdated and replaced with something better/faster/more fashionable/more shiny within four months:

Desktop PC's, Laptop PC's, Televisions, Blu-Ray players, Tablet PC, PSP, Nintendo DS, Smartphones (hell, if you bought an Android device as a present it's probably outdated NOW), anything even close to fashionable clothes, hi-fi equipment, digital camera, golf clubs (actually most sports equipment), shoes.... the list goes on and on and on. You buy the best you can at the time you buy it and enjoy it. Virtually every new product these days is simply an incremental improvement at best anyway, actual revolutions are few and far between for existing kit.

i think alot of you are forgetting that some people who buy the ipad (although most will, like the people on here with the MBP and an iphone and an ipad and a MBA, you get the gist!) will not be loaded with cash!! When i buy an apple product and pay the premium that i always have done my entire life to get a product that will last me, i want it to last me the longest possible time because im not loaded with money and it takes a long time to pay for said items! so if im a relentless apple fanboy simply because i want to maximise the time my product is viable for my uses then YES! YES I AM!! And if im a scrooge because i dont care whether i get it on the 25th, then bah fricking humbug!!

I just bought an iPad and I am perfectly happy with it, and will be even when 'iPad 2" comes out. I don't need any cameras, I don't care if it's a "Retina Display", and it is perfectly speedy now with the existing hardware.

Ummmm...yeah, right...

I'm holding out for iPad 12th generation...I hear it will sing you to sleep, then wake up and cook you breakfast in the morning...

After all, 2023 is just around the corner.

Such is life of electronics, as soon as you buy there is something newer coming out, priced lower with more features.

If it follows with the iPhone development cycle, I think people will be just fine.

I had the iPhone 1 and then later upgraded to the 3gs. To me, the iPhone 2 wasn't a compelling upgrade over the 1, just as I don't think the iphone4 is a compelling upgrade over the 3gs. I'll be upgrading to the iphone5 when it arrives and I'll probably be ready to go to the ipad3.

I'd rather open up an iPad on Christmas morning than wait four months to buy the iPad 2.

One more thing, the iPad 3 is going to have a Blu-Ray Player, Retina Display, and the ability to make you fly. You should wait for that.

Given Apple's reputation (and developers) of dropping major feature support for the most minor of reasons - yea, I would feel bad if I bought an iPad for christmas. I guess it depends on the user. An old iPad would have no use to me, but my parents wouldn't mind (my mothers still using a first gen iPod touch alongside her 4th gen).

Apple is not stupid. They will not revise their latest and greatest product too soon after Christmas. They dominate the market and are not in a rush to introduce a new model. They also do not want to disappoint holiday shoppers by doing so. Notice that iPhone and iPod refresh cycles are months from the holiday season.

I just ordered a refurbished iPad 32gb for myself for Christmas...I was org. going to wait until the iPad 2 but decided to get it now...who knows what will happen in the next few months, also as stated earlier, Apple products typically have amazing resale value, so it June or July (if released in April) I could probably turn around and sell my 32gb on ebay and make most of my money back.

I'm very excited for my iPad to arrive!!

People who buy Dell / Sony /Acer / LG/ Nokia / anyone-else's products must be distraught then, presumably? Apple has probably the longest product life cycle in every industry they're in - most of their products remain "current" for a whole year, and don't know any other company like that.

That of course has up-sides and down-sides. It means they have time to focus on fewer, arguably better-quality products. But also means they can start to look old and poor value relative to the competition by the time they've been out 11 months.

I've been very happy with my ipad, and I don't know what it would take to get me to upgrade to the next model. Facetime on the ipad doesn't really appeal to me, nor do I need a camera on it. I suppose a nice new retina display would be tempting though.

At least the ones that are getting it for Christmas, didn't have to PAY for it. It's a FREE gift.

that's true, but the people who gifted it to them probably won't like to hear them complain that they want a new model in a couple of months. That said, it is still a great gift.
