ok. I agree with most of your stuff, but there's nothing pro about MagSafe. If you're a professional, take care of your stuff and don't trip on it. We don't have MagSafe on other things like monitors or iPhones yet we don't trip on those sending them flying across the room

oh just stop. MagSafe is a perfectly reasonable and useful feature. There's nothing in the job description of Professional that says you and everyone around you at all times is 100 percent accident proof.

You are right, vote with our wallets, and then its in Apples court to decide how to respond.

On the other hand it's a public forum. So he can post his priorities all he likes, can he not? Just how you shared your opinions on features two posts later, ironically enough. Heres another opinion for you to not care about, I quite like reading what people think about the latest mac designs, good or bad, silly or valid. Why else would we delve into these forums to begin with, when almost all of whats posted here is exactly that?

I don't like your opinion. Unless you're a Professional. Are you a Professional?

I upgraded from a late 2008 MacBook Pro to a 15" touch bar MacBook Pro...So far no issues with it. I bought it at Microcenter and had them price match B&H price.

Bahaha!!! Like you'd say no to a free one!! Tell you what, when they hand them out for free you can give me yours.
I've got a 2013 MBA that still smokes anything Apple's done recently.

Give me your address because you can have the Mac Book Amature

Yes the MBP is overpriced, but I don't get why so many people are up in arms over it. Apple has been selling overpriced laptops for a long time. Why would people think they will get cheaper when there is a new "cool factor" feature added? If nothing else, people should have expected the price jump. Not saying it is warranted, but we are talking about Apple. They are going after people that don't know a lot about computers, but want the coolest new features.

Oh hey it's only another $600 to get storage that professionals (content makers) need.

Insanity.

I'll stick with my rMPB 2012 until Apple creates an actual "Pro" laptop.
"Pro" laptops need:
- A battery that last more than 3 hour when doing actual work.
- Magsafe for obvious reasons.
- An option for Nvidia GPUs since some of use use CUDA for our jobs.
- Traditional USB and HDMI ports, or include the damn dongles for free.

But who cares?

If the sales at the margin the bean counters demand is not there, they WILL kill the whole Mac line. That is just how they operate. Just watch the new iMacs not appear if the Macbook "Pro" margins do not hold. They undoubtedly have planned similar price hikes for the iMacs.

Remember: Apple will continue to get further and further behind as the company is being harvested by Wall Street for short term profits and stock price. Getting out of the Mac business, raising prices to absurd levels, stopping development of airport express and monitors, falling behind on iPhone features, QC problems, as well as massive stock buybacks point directly to the bean counters having taken over the company.

We have all seen this with so many tech companies. It seems to be Apple's turn

At this point I am perfectly fine with Apple killing the whole Mac line. I love my 2013 15" rMBP and the dozen of other Mac devices that came before it but can't see myself buying a 2016 MBP anytime soon. I'd rather switch to a different ecosystem.

Apple killing the Mac means all the talented developers that made this platform great will swarm to one of the alternatives (Windows or Linux) which will ultimately turn that into a better experience for me.

So yes, Tim Cook, please kill my beloved Mac platform.

Deliberately got a new Mid-2015 15" MBP from B&H this month over the 2016 model, plus saved at least $500. However, price wasn't the issue. It's what Apple offered in this product. I prefer to stick with the last Steve Jobs era Mac for many reasons. Couldn't be happier.

I get about the same price from Apple with my work discount plan. I don't think these are worth the cost. I picked up the 13" non TB for $1299 at MicroCenter a few weeks ago. Seemed about fair for what I got, I would not have paid $1499 for it. There's no excuse for pricing this hardware over $2000. $1999 RETAIL should be the 15" but then that would throw the rest of the lineup off of their pricing scheme.
Got the same deal. Worth it to purchase new pro at last year price. Lol

Not saying it is warranted, but we are talking about Apple. They are going after people that don't know a lot about computers, but want the coolest new features.

People get "up in arms" about it for a few reasons:

1) The only competition is hackintoshes and Windows.
2) This means the OS basically runs about $500-1000, but is "built into" the cost of hardware
3) The new hardware shows no judgment in transition... iPhone 7 not a month before requiring a dongle...
4) The approach to thin for its own sake has been detrimental to battery life
5) Most importantly, people see this as a harbinger of things to come. They don't like it.

Transitions are costly to the individual. Yes, latest and greatest is a cost, but usually it's a predictable curve. Apple moved that curve heavily, and for little reason. There are some things better, and some not better, yet they are charging considerably more money. The average consumer is getting gimmicks and connectors, and this doesn't make a lot of sense for a company that sells at a premium and touts "just works".

A lot of things have been failing the "just works" test lately, and because it is effectively a monopoly, that is worth its user base getting angry. That's because they can't just go buy a Dell or HP, etc.

More expensive than the superior 2015 models were when they were new. n0 thanks

The MacBook Pro was never overpriced until now. MacBook Air was only overpriced in the first gen. Yes, it costs more than a Dell, but Dells suck, and the extra cost is worth it so you can have a decent OS and outstanding keyboard, trackpad, display, etc. But the 2016 costs more than the 2015, and it's worse, and macOS is also worse now. Tech is supposed to improve year-over-year while remaining the same price or getting cheaper.

Can someone define a "pro" ? Is it the engineer using the machine for simulations? A photographer using the machine for editing? A label that makes you feel important?
Someone who needs advanced features on the computer for work purposes.

nice offer, but unfortunately still won't make up for being overpriced and being the first model of it's line.

i'm NOT claiming the following machine is better than the new macbook. actually it's a 2 year old model and i got one of the last new machines sold for a very good price ... i'm just pointing out an alternative that i became happy with:
---
thinkpad t450s with i7 2.6 GHz, 8GB RAM, 192 GB SSD, smartcard reader, fingerprint reader, full hd nonglare nontouch ips (i dont like touch!) ... EUR 999,- excl. tax
1TB SSD Samsung 850 EVO ... 275,- excl. tax
16GB memory module (making it 20 GB RAM in total) ... EUR 150,- excl. tax
5 Years Warranty Upgrade, International on-site, 3 years internal battery warranty ... EUR 220,- excl. tax
Elementary OS ... free. (however i'm donating those guys are doing a great job!)
---
1644,- total + tax for a machine with on-site warranty until 19. december 2021. - plenty of budget left for additional batteries, chargers, etc. there is a successor, t460s which is lighter etc. but it doesn't have swappable batteries anymore, thats why i've opted for the old model.

Again, this is just an alternative that works for me (being a developer), this setup is not made for everyone, and i'm NOT claiming it's better than the MBP. it even doesnt have to be. The MBP 2016 is a VERY nice and beautiful machine. I'm just showing what works for me and i didn't want to touch my mid-2012 MBP after i had setup my new linux box. If i wasn't happy with this setup, i'd probably have opted for the 13" 2015 model (i love that very much, too and i think that's a very good choice - my wife has the MBP late 2013 model which is awesome too).

It's like being tortured: the new MBP is such a beautiful machine so when you see it you really wanna have it, but considering the drawbacks that are coming with it, it's really like torture to decide about the purchase. ^^

For some reason Tim changed the meaning of "Pro" from "work horse" to "fashion".

Magsafe isn't coming back nor is traditional USB or HDMI ports. In a year or so all laptops will be this way. USB-C is the future, it's just needs another year to fully stabilize and everything to move over to it.

My condolences...

We got four of them two weeks ago, we had a few issues getting two screens to work, but this mostly because everything USB-C based is more for the MacBook at this point. In a few months, it will be a non-issue because docks/dongles will have caught up with MBP. The only real issue is Apple didn't make a display port dongle for USB-C.

Tech is supposed to improve year-over-year while remaining the same price or getting cheaper.

Says who? Yes that is what many companies do, but it is no way guaranteed or something Apple or any other manufacturer has to follow.
Apple has always charged a premium to be a part of their ecosystem and it's clear that they think the ecosystem they are creating and the hardware that goes along with it is worth more than it was last year.

£2,699 ($3305) in the UK for a 15" mbp with a 512Gig hard drive!! Aaaaa-haaaaa-haaaaaaaaaa. Funny. Very funny. erm. No. Not funny. It's not a matter of being able to afford it. It's a matter of stupidity if you do give Apple that much money for such a machine.

Apple totally lost it. if any other company offers the same seamless work between phone/tablet and laptop/PC, I will jump ship. What a total mess, incremental upgrade and more than premium prices. PRO just does not exist any longer, and for hobby photographers like me, even more depressing. Come on Apple, get a grip.
