I dunno, J-Pop and metal doesn't mesh for me; especially how ridiculous the musicians look* playing behind the trio. As for the rest of it, I'll politely leave myself out of that part of the conversation.

*I am all for ridiculousness and bands giving their listeners / fans a show, but even in my weird music scope this isn't firing the synapses.

Glam and metal never were supposed to mesh. Yet we were given Ratt, Poison, Warrant, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Dokken, Motley Crue, Trixter, Winger, L.A. Guns, and the like. How ridiculous did they look, in spandex, snakeskin boots, tight pants, long hair teased with so much hairspray the Ozone layer took a hit, and sometimes, makeup?

And just to note, there is a difference between the Kami God band, and the Kami Ghost band. The Kami God band are actually musicians in other bands in their own right, and each is huge in Japan; they've simply come together as the backing band. Call it a supergroup; the best metal supergroup they have; hence God Band. The Kami Ghost band are just actors playing the band.

In fact, here you go. And yes, the US has nothing on Japan, as far as the look of emo goes.

Finally, at least 2 of these guitarists are protoges of Marty Friedman (Megadeth). So they have chops.

I'm 16, and no, I obviously don't have children.

I assume next reply will be "you teenagers are so disrespectful and arrogant"?
Sounds like "QED" was omitted at the end of that last statement. ;)

Only after the fact, and even then it's more likely than obvious :)

To each their own, man. You dig it like so many other folks, great. I do not. Simple as that. To my ears, J-Pop and Metal don't mix. Just like folk and metal don't mix and that's popular too.

Same here, I listen to some pretty diverse music genres/sub-genres: rock, metal, industrial, grunge, goth, punk, EDM, ambient, Lo-Fi, trip-hop, reggae, surf, alt of all flavors, prog, some classical, etc., etc. and I do not dig on this - even after several samplings - in the least, none, _do_not_like_.

Cheers to those who do

I like a variety of musical styles too, but as with almost everything in my fan woman heart, I'm old school. Be it music, movies, comics etc. I tried to appreciate this for what it is, but I'll simply leave it for those who do appreciate it.

I freaking LOVE Babymetal. I discovered them last week when i read about Rob Zombie defending them. Looked them up, the first song i heard was "The One" Instantly fell in love (with the music of course) and havent looked back since. Stuff's great to play racing games to.

Watch some of the clips of their live shows. The Kami God band is absolutely sick, and you know it's the good stuff when they can put together a mosh'sh pit and wall of death that makes Slayer (hell, the Big 4), and most other black, death, and doom metal bands jealous...

And that was when they were 12 and 14 year old kids.

It's rare that I come across something that I can't form an opinion on. This has nothing to do with its quality or worthiness of a thing, rather it's because it's so far beyond my realm of experience, challenging every preconceived notion I've previously held concerning everything I thought I knew about reality and the world I live in that I...I...I...I...I...I...I...I...

Well, if someone (of either sex or gender) is going to dress and dance in a manner that is clearly provocative, some people are concerned about whether that person is legally of age to have such provocative appearance and moves appreciated in the manner in which they're presented. I, for one, would feel ookie if I watched a titillating performance by a girl then learned that she was underaged.

If you don't want to be seen and/or admired in a sexual manner, then don't present yourself to the world in a sexual fashion. Advice that goes for people of any sex or gender.

I disagree with the notion that their performance is aimed at being provocative. Nothing about the choreography or costuming really suggests sexualized branding (to me) when I look at those videos.

I'm of the same opinion. There's nothing overly risque about it.

It's just weird.

I didn't find it weird. It's not my thing, but I'm not surprised that it's popular. I think some of the comments are a little strange. I watched it twice. I don't see how they came away with provocative. The costumes themselves aren't really designed to accentuate anyone's anatomy. They look slightly punk influenced to me. It's not super conservative looking, but I don't think that would be really atypical for anything metal.

I actually did that yesterday after school lol i got the email of your reply after i was done watching. It really pumps me up and makes me want to go to one of their shows even more so. I love it!

I read an article last night and quite a few people said that the fact that Rob Zombie took a pic with them makes him seem like a pedophile. I was appalled at the sheer ignorance of some people.

I just can't stop watching this... the data plan in my iPhone is 75% gone by just watching this video. Is addictive. I like their dress, the colors, the choreography and I am not a metal person.

Babymetal is awesome. lol

This is my favorite of their songs, could listen all day:

:D

I couldn't stop watching it ...

... fast enough.

Lol. This strikes me as a powerful act, but understanding the lyrics would help. I'm observing that the background and intro music is very metal, but when the singing starts it transforms into pop. :)

Are you an old fuddy-duddy? ;) My standards may not line up with yours, but dance is movement, and I saw nothing that I'd call sexually provocative in the two videos I watched. As far as their age and when theses videos were made (I don't know) the lead was born in 1997 and the band started in 2010, so she is 19 today.

Keep in mind that their act comes with the knowledge of what is popular in Japan and the world of J-Pop.

Here's a good litmus test. Head out to an Anime convention, and see how some of the kids are dressed. Then revisit BabyMetal. You'll find yourself enlightened.

And the rest of the world is not as hung up about sex as the Pilgrims... :p:D These objections almost boil down to the tired sex equals sin standard. As if, no sexual thought should exist in our minds until we turn 16, 18, or how about 21? Our biology says different.
[doublepost=1463578102][/doublepost]
I'm sick and tired of these comments like this one. All members are 16 or 18 years old. How is that "children"? And how exactly do you get to decide that this is hypersexual? I don't, I think this is much less sexual than any other American music video. They're dressed much more appropriately unlike American stars, which, although often much older, barely wear any clothes at all (seriously, what the f*ck is the problem with people? upset over 16-years old casually dancing wearing not very exposed clothes, but not upset over a 23-year old woman who is naked on a wrecking ball??).

And may I remind you that once you're 12-13 or so, you're no longer a child. Liking someone who's 13 does not make you a pedophile, because THEY ARE NO LONGER CHILDREN as they have passed puberty (in most cases, at least). And as a final note, I'd like to remind you that the age of consent is 13 in Japan, so not only are those artists much older than the minimum age in order to be socially permitted to be sexually exposed, they aren't even showing any signs of sexualisation. They're just considered "cute". And yes, sexualisation of ACTUAL children is a problem, but this is not what we're talking about (and I'm not exactly sure how much of a problem it is in Japan, I'll have to research on that).

People on this planet are ****ing annoying.

Welcome to the land of the sexually uptight, especially for pinging on Babymetal. Fortunately not all of us suffer from this affliction, just apparantly the conservatives. ;)

I don't think so, but I guess it's subjective. I'm 47 and I play in a rock band, so feel free to come to your own conclusion.

Christian Rock? ;) I simply don't know how you could arrive at this statement:

Well, if someone (of either sex or gender) is going to dress and dance in a manner that is clearly provocative,

I watched only two videos, it's possible I missed it, but you really consider their dress provocative? And as far as moves, I've been to several community dance recitals to watch my niece perform all sorts of "provocative" moves ;) as most modern dance is not marching around the stage like soldiers or robots. All the instructors are women.

But look at what moms have their 6 year old girls doing, perform in those child competitions, with makeup and adult Madonna style moves, which btw, I do question.

Suzuka was born in December lol She wont be 19 for a few more months

I stand corrected.

This conversation has taken on a Footloose vibe, the story of a preacher man hung up about dance as the highway to hell for his community's children, although I'll acknowledge every high school student in this portrayal is probably mid 20s or older...

The seeds of sinful movement, bending over.

Young girls raising their dresses!
:eek::p

Like Mobilhehaathi said, it's all pretty standard super happy kawaii hyperactive J-Pop idol stuff, just run through a metal filter. That's what makes it so weird, cuz those are two genres of music that seem totally and completely incongruent to each other.

Somehow, they made it work, but it still...blows my mind.

I would say it's weird in that way only the Japanese can be weird, but apparently we've since gone one step ahead of them with death metal cooking songs.

hehe... floats ya goat...

That last one is kinda freaky.. i dunno what to make of it. I wonder what happens when they get older..
