What about high school students?

I'm not sure about the back to school sale, but the high schools in my area are under the education store/discount. I'm not sure why, or if it even gives you the discount, since our schools have always used Dells...

AFAIK high school students get it too. my high school as well is in the education store and gets the same $100 discount college students get.

I'm not really concerned about the back to school sale, but I was wondering if a high school student can just go to the Apple store with their ID and pick up a Macbook for $850 (or what ever the educational discount is)

I just checked the Apple Online Store (for my high school) and they say "Students save..."

I assume it's safe for me to get it from there then, if in store doesn't work. I just don't want to get in any trouble, thats all.

But this is sweet. Didn't know highschool students get discounts.
This is how it looks for my high school.

The reason they list high schools, and even elementary schools, is for staff. Students without a college ID are not covered.

Here are the terms from last year. No high school students; "higher education" (university) students only. But employees of K-12 schools, and parents of higher education students, are also eligible:

EDUCATION INDIVIDUAL PURCHASE QUALIFICATIONS: Those eligible to purchase as Education Individuals include faculty, staff, students, and parents as follows:
K–12: Any employee of a public or private K–12 institution in the United States is eligible. In addition, school board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members are eligible. PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers are eligible.
Higher Education: Faculty and staff of higher education institutions and students attending or accepted into a higher education institution are eligible to purchase.
Higher Education Parents: Parents purchasing on behalf of their child, who is a student currently attending or accepted into a public or private higher education institution in the United States, are eligible to purchase.

I agree with you, but for me, I'm in it for the free printer, too. I know I can order now from Apple and get the free printer, but I might as well wait to get the free iPod, too. Then I'll sell either the new iPod or my old 1G Touch...

Certainly the printer thing can play into it if you need one. The free printer I got with my last MacBook is still in the box though.

With Apple it's up to $100 mail in rebate for the printer, right? You can get a pretty decent one with that. But if you just need a basic one, MacConnection gives you up to $60 back on a printer, and their printers start at $69. Just another option, you can add the $9 to my original formula.

In the end it just depends on the value that you place on time.

I didn't know about Mac Connection's printer offer. Thanks!
Even so, I will probably wait the month. My sister needs a new iPod, so I can sell it to her if I wait. Or just sell it on Craigslist. I'm buying the new Mac for college next year, so even though I'm DYING to get it, I can wait an extra month. (It's not like I've been waiting 18 years already............ :p )

Just confirmed with Apple. Only uni students and educators can use student discount. Oh well.

Yeah at times those retailers (MacConnection, MacMall, etc) can have some pretty sweet deals. When I bought my unibody Macbook back in late October, I paid $920 for it after rebate, and I got a free $100 printer, a free $25 laptop sleeve, a free copy of Parallels. If you don't mind tons of mail in rebates then sometimes those places can work out really well.

damn. well i'm graduating from high school in May and i am (for a fact) attending college in the fall but i don't get an ID from them for a while, think i could still get it?

Yes, you can show them proof of admittance and they'll take it. Something like your admission letter or your fall schedule will work.

Meh, I want my MBP now, but I really should wait for the iPod promotion... what to do....

for those looking at the 17" or upper level 15" mbp, you'll save $200 with educational pricing.

Best decision NOW. I doubt you'll think it was the best decision EVER a month and a half from now...

Seriously. If you needed it now, then I understand, but if you're just impatient.. well, it's your money. ;)

I'm waiting for the promotion to start to get a 27". Last year I bought my MBP in late august and missed out. Won't happen again. :D
