Well yes and no; you can't combine discounts but you can get the free printer promo and iPod deal at the same time.

Do they generally keep the free printer promo going through the iPod sale? I'm planning on a 13" MBP for law school and the printer promo currently covers the exact printer I want, but if I could also get a free iPod by waiting until summer, it's worth the wait.

this is on the apple website, hopefully this means the deals will start soon!

I had been planning on waiting for the Back to School sale. But if you add in sales tax (8.75 in my part of California) for both the computer and the ipod- Macconnection with its rebate is actually cheaper.

I'm not sure about the back to school sale, but the high schools in my area are under the education store/discount. I'm not sure why, or if it even gives you the discount, since our schools have always used Dells...

It only works for higher education students and education teachers and administrators for K-12 and higher ed. So yes, your high school are under it but it won't work for HS students unless you are accepted into a college....which just means you need to apply to college earlier if you are not a senior!;)

I really think they may use the rebate thing towards the iPad this year. I think they will do the iPod free offer again, but will allow someone to put the $199 towards an iPad just to get the user base up. Remember, that is the speculated reason they upped it from a free iPod to a free iPod Touch...got the user base up for the app store. They will want to do the same as well as the fact that they want educators and college students using an IPad on campus!:D:apple:

I thought I saw somewhere in Macrumors that students graduating from college have a grace period of 6 months. Am I wrong? Because I want discounted macbook pro, free ipod (classic free or the difference?) and free rebate on printer. Now that's a deal!

I don't find anything on google or apple.com that is an official grace period. I think if you just graduated provide your college id and unless it says expired May 2010 you are fine for a while.

As long as your "discounted" MBP is not refurbished it looks like it will work for the free iPod. If it is refurb. then no go.

This is interesting on the iPod rebate:

School board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members are eligible. PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers are eligible.

So I say to anyone who is not an educator or student, but has kids- get involved in your school's PTA or PTO and it will pay you back in :apple:$:D

If this was gonna be true id be overjoyed but, but i think this goes against Stevie Jobs logic. i mean. the ipad is supposed to replace netbooks right? so in his mind itd be like someone buying 2 laptops? idk

"Back to school" promotion while students are "in school?"

nothing on either US or CA sites...I bet the promo runs at different times in Japan

It is wierd. I believe that Japanese school will still be in semester on 5/25/2010....Then, it is not actually "Back to school."

They have always let you apply the value of the value of the iPod touch to upgrade to a better version. You just pay the difference, so why wouldnt they let you apply it to an iPad. Additionally as mentioned before it is an idea which increases the iPad appstore user base. THe appstore is where the money is.

Because they do it to reduce iPod inventory before new models are announced. So unless Apple is planning a new iPad version in the fall it wouldn't make much sense, and additionally would work against the goal of reducing iPod inventory.

iPads are flying out of the stores right now. Why offer a discount when customers are snapping them up at full price?

Arigato

Looks like the BTS starts on May 25, 2010, if the North American ones follow exactly what the Apple Japan campaign does.

http://store.apple.com/jp/browse/campaigns/back_to_school

It gives a free ipod (as long as the value not exceeding a 8GB Touch, ie. 19,800yens, according to the Apple Japan store)

Thank you, this is by far the most useful info surrounding BTS promo... I made a mistake by selling my white macbook a bit too early thinking I could use my 8yr old Dell desktop. I'm suffering right now and going through withdrawal like a drug addict. :(

I hope I can wait 25 more days........

Grace period?

Does anyone know if there's a grace period for the free iPod Touch? I'm waiting to buy a 15 inch MacBook Pro and I'm not sure if I should wait another month for the back to school promo. Can I just buy the MacBook Pro with the 8 GB iPod Touch right now and send in the mail-in rebate after the promo has started? Or do I need the date of purchase to be after May 25th or whatever the date is? If there's a 30 day grace period for those who just happened to buy an iPod Touch and a Mac, that'd make me very happy.

Probably the stupidest question ever, I know.

Thanks.

Answering my own question, from the Back to School 2009 Terms and Conditions:

Purchase an Apple Computer, using Apple’s Education Individual discount, and a qualifying iPod from May 27, 2009, through September 8, 2009, and receive up to $229 via rebate (subject to terms and conditions). [...] Orders for Qualifying Products from the U.S. Apple Online Store for Education Individuals or U.S. Apple Telesales that are placed during the above promotion period and ship after the offer ends are eligible.

So no grace period. That's too bad.

so if the deal were to run again in the same manner, where does the free printer come from? is it free printer or free ipod, or is it and.

You can get both. You just buy both the iPod touch and the printer along with your Mac in the promotion and then you get your money back in the post via rebate.
