I asked a rep at the Apple Store in West Hartford, CT last night, and he said he's not sure when it'll start exactly, or if it'll be the "free" iPod again, but he said that the were told the Back To School will start in three weeks. For what that's worth.

I asked an apple rep today about back to school and said that it started in August in the past. I read from around here that it starts in late May or early June. SO, I just said thanks and bye. Worthless call...

Are you in the Uk? Its around July/August for us brits.

Nope, I'm in VA. I'm just really anxious for this BTS bc I can get 200 off the macbook pro I want, a free iPod, and free rebate on printer. Thats a DEAL!

I thought education discount for students was only 100$ off?

I'm interested in hearing the answer to this. If I get an extra $50-$100 off the education discount, it's an even better deal.

The promotion only consists of a free iPod touch. No further $ discount.

There is a free printer rebate, but that is always going on.

An extra $50 off the already $100 off for students, during the promotion?

I just went to the apple.com. I went to edu store and picked my school. I then went to macbook pros and saw at the bottom of every model and saw that there 100, 150 and 200 taken off the original price. That's where I am looking.
Sorry if I am wrong.

do you have to be in university? Im a middle schooler and i want to get a new MBP also.

You have to be in undergraduate or graduate student in University. Or if you work for university, that works too.

That's just an education discount (always there). The Back to School Promo is something else.

As I understand it, although I might be wrong, in previous years the Back To School offer started in the UK in July/August. However, last year Apple took everyone by surprise by starting the event at the same time in the US and most of Europe.

Here's the MacRumours article from last year: Link

Apple reps are traditionally known to know nothing about upcoming products. (See the next quote) They also are banned from even reading sites like these - but that's another story.

You might be able to get that from a third-party looking to match Apple, but that's not the norm at least from Apple.

That's the normal EDU discount.

I wish the BTS Sale would hurry up so that I could get my MBP!
Join the club.

I am actually at an Apple store right now on here on one of the iMac's. My appointment for a sales rep is at 6PM EST, so just over an hour from now. Is it possible to get the student discount in store or do you have to order it from the education store page to get the discount? I'm starting my post-secondary education in a week, so.... Need it now, but $200 off the i7 15" MBP would be nice:D

EDIT: Education discount in store = go apparently :D Proud owner of a new 15" i7 :)

Theoretically, wouldn't it be possible to purchase a MacBook Pro within the 14 day return period and go back to the store during BTS to request an iPod, or printed receipt revised to include the iPod deal?

Also is there a restocking fee within those 14 days? I feel like Apple would want to avoid the hassle of returns for the BTS promo and just give you the deal...

Now this is just outright humbug.
