I'm not sure if I'm missing part of your build, but based on what you've written above, on Apple's online store the price is $1339 with education discount, and $1399 without.

You are correct but after Texas sales tax it is $1450. Mac Mall charges no tax to Texas.

Wifi

I've been waiting for the BTS also - Has anyone who is interested in the MBA been turned off because of the WIFI issue? I'm not very tech savvy and I have enjoyed my macbook with no issues for 5 years. I've been waiting for this air a long time!

Yeah I'm concerned a little bit. But I think it's probably a software issue, so once Apple get it fixed, we'll be fine. If it's a hardware problem, I'm not purchasing my MBA until August - maybe even September - so I don't think my machine will be affected; hopefully they'll have fixed the hardware and begun manufacturing the new component.

What exactly is the wifi issue. I'd been planning to get a MBP but I just decided to get an MBA and wait for the BTS.

I picked up my new MacBook Pro today as well. I know the going idea is that the people in the store do not know what and will happen with Apple releases, however, just to add to the speculation...

I was told by the Apple associate that the BTS sale will occur around the same time tax free weekend in August. She also indicated that they will follow the similar pattern of itunes gift card...

Again, who knows if this is accurate but just what I heard :apple:

CA doesn't have tax free weekend so in wouldn't make sense for Apple to base BTS around the same time as that.

It seems like everybody on this thread is talking about holding off getting a new Macbook Pro, but I just want an iPad... I hope that if they have the BTS promotion this year, it will still cover that.

"Tax-free weekend" - that must be nice. Why can't England have that?!!?! :')
Besides, we pay 20% in VAT!!! xD

If BTS isn't back by Monday I will be very confused as to what Apple's game-plan is. I understand that it makes a lot of sense for Apple to shrink the window in which the BTS promo is offered (because frankly, four months is quite a long time for them to be offering an extra £70 to all their education customers) but leaving it until August seems a tad late. I know they aren't in any way obliged to offer this discount, but so many people are now aware of it's existence that they will probably feel a little bit of indignation that they can't get the same deal this year.

It seems that in the past, BTS was designed to clear inventory or push new products more than it was about selling Macs. When the offer was an iPod, the next generation device was always released just after BTS ended. Then once everyone was hooked on their iPod touches, BTS shifted to a git card to get folks to fill up on apps. Now that we are all hooked on apps it makes sense to scale back the promotion and just continue to offer the education discount. But it does seem like it would be good PR to announce whether there will be a BTS offer this year and when/what it will be. Then everyone can decide to buy now or wait.

As far as tax-free weekends go, I think that the states that have them all do it at about the same time in early August, so it could still make sense to do BTS in that time frame.

I never even heard of tax free weekend and I live in the US.

Google'd it at found out that only 13 states have it. CA does not have it.

Bts 2013

Seems to me that Apple is timing the beginning of BTS to coincide with how long they think it will take to sell out the remainder of the iPad Mini line just in time for the new iPad Minis to be announced. That would imply that they don't want to have to make any more of the first generation Minis.

It seems to me that the promotion is most likely not a $100 gift card because there is no limit to how many of those AAPL can make. That is not true for a hardware product such as an iPad Mini.

I do believe that the Apple Store employees know nothing about this promotion in advance. My local Apple Retail Store manager has told me such on several occasions. If AAPL really intended to pull the plug on BTS, it would have made sense to say so at the beginning of WWDC. As it is, they are delaying sales that they could get by keeping us all waiting. Still, you can't force somebody to give away anything for free.

The wifi problems on the new Macbook air , or at least the ones that I have experienced with my 13 inch 1.7/8/256 have been: On my home wifi connection, I can stay connected to the network for about 30 seconds. After this, it will still show my connection as "connected" but nothing will load. Turning wifi off and on/ restarting seem to be temporary solutions that can give me and few minutes of connection before inevitably disconnecting.

I believe however that this is a software issue because I can connect to my neighbors wifi and stay connected indefinitely. Also, people are talking about on the apple support forums that some of them are getting invites to test out Apple's upcoming wifi update which should hopefully alleviate all of these problems.

I bloody hope you're right. I'd be over the moon with an iPad Mini! :D *crosses fingers*

As far as I've seen, Apple rarely want to mention the demise of a product or service, unless they're replacing it with something better (i.e. MobileMe, iPod Mini).

If Apple were to pull the plug on BTS, I don't think they'd say a word. In saying that, some people have noticed they're more enthusiastic about their "best-ever" education pricing this year. So perhaps that's the 'replacement'.

I thought this would happen on the 1st July. Guess I was wrong as we would have heard some kind of rumour by now I guess.
Regardless, I'm giving it until tomorrow and I'll be ordering a MBA11.
Maybe they will have started the promo by the time new updated rMBP comes along and I'll be able to get something or nothing then ;)

I'd be happy with 1-2 years of cloud service and a free printer(think they stopped doing this too). I mean it's kind of gone hill for a while it was a ipod classic(250-300 bucks at the time when I got my 1st in 2005) then a ipod mini in 07, then it was 200 bucks off a ipod then a ipod touch and always included a free printer. Last year it was a 100 buck gift card to itunes. My gf gave it to me and have yet to use it haha. It's so easy to download stuff elsewhere. I am positive they aren't going to give us a ipad mini. I can see them selling us the ipad 2/mac mini for 100-150 bucks. Which is the best they are going to give us.

I'm still keeping my hopes up that they will give away a free iPad Mini.

I think it is quite plausible that AAPL will drop a BTS promotion on us right out of the blue since they really don't tell the store people anything. I know that there are a lot of folks out there that are delaying a decision to buy until the BTS is either announced or done away with.

I hope they don't decide to delay BTS until August. That is not really enough time for my new college student to get everything set up on the new computer before it's time to go off to school. We're probably buying on July 15 if BTS is not announced by then.

August is way too late for new Mac buyers. I would assume students would want to have their laptop before school starts so they can get used to it and do other stuff.
