same, if i can find a better deal, i.e. best buy open box, or a bigger education discount im gonna pull the trigger, $100 iTunes card comes out to 80-90 bucks if you sold it plus the 50 for education discount, 140 bucks tops isnt anything special.

Why would you sell the $100 gift card?

Anyways, pulled the trigger. Apple already lowered the price again this year so not going to complain that much.

If I'm lucky, bts will appear within 14 days but if it doesn't, not a big deal.

really want to use my first Mac.

You won't regret it. This is what I did and I picked it up yesterday. In love now with my 13" rMBP.

Just talked to multiple Apple store managers and the online chat. They all said they haven't even heard a whisper about the promotion and two of them looked concerned, like it won't probably happen this year. :(

That would be a disappointment but not much of a surprise. The company is in a different financial condition than it was a year ago, at least in market value. Still would not be a good message to send to their customers or the market in general.

It seems as though a lot of people are expecting the rMBP to be refreshed alongside the start of the BTS promo. The interesting thing to note though is there haven't been any rumors of new SKUs going out that would give us a heads up about any impending rMBP update.

I know the Air SKUs were going around shortly before WWDC indicating something being released but I would think this is common for a lot of hardware refreshes, not just those coinciding with WWDC and we just haven't heard anything about this.

Relative to last year this is sort of true, but not to any of the previous years during which Apple ran B2S, so I don't think this would have any bearing on their decision. They run such high margins on their products anyway, particularly the ones featured in B2S, that it would have little impact on the profitability.

Also, their market value doesn't have anything to do with their real value. Apple is making more money and has more cash-on-hand than ever.

We do have this: https://www.macrumors.com/2013/06/20/next-generation-13-inch-macbook-pro-benchmarked-with-modest-performance-gains/

I believe there are some of those showing up for the new Mac Pro as well but I don't think that anyone expects that to be released in July. ;)

I see, I misread your original post in my haste. My bad.

You aren't in the habit of winking like that in public, are you? People would run for the hills. (wink!) <- I just shout it.

If there is a B2S promo this year, it will be the latest in over 5 years, or ever (I don't have all the dates but most of them).

I emailed a guy I know at Apple, relatively high up and I can confirm BTS is definitely happening this year, however he said dates are "to be announced", but I can promise you it definitely is happening

Any idea if it's related to the rMBPs? and if it's happening soon?

What exactly did he say? Forgive me for being doubtful, but it's always difficult to trust someone without some sort of proof. I hope you're right, but I don't want to get my hopes up! xD

I'm now hearing early August for BTS from my source. Can you confirm this with yours? I was told they don't want to start BTS at the end of the school year anymore.

I think the B2S will start July 1st.

If it does start in early August that would be a big disappointment being as I would start high School the following week.

Early August sounds great actually. What has your source said about the rMBPs?

If your "source" is right and it is still coming but much later, that leads me to believe (hopefully) they are doing something more than the usual iTunes card.

Hmm that's interesting. Maybe Apple think they're missing out on extra profit margins by offering the discount from June till September. I guess it makes sense for them to cut it down to just August/September time. Plus it means that the bottleneck in the new rMBP components will probably be sorted by that time so the BTS deal can coincide with the release of the new rMBP.

Again though, it would be lovely to know who these sources are :')

I'm sorta dubious, given the "sources" we were given earlier turned out to be false. And if they do it as late as August, people who have already bought their Mac will be pissed.

Unless of course they make the promo available to those people who have already made their purchase, too. I'm just happy I have mine ordered (and now dispatched)!

I was just in the store and the associate suggested that if I wait until the tax free weekend in August I could save the tax and also "likely" get a gift card. I can't assess whether the sales associate has any actual knowledge of the promotion, but it does sound like they may be moving it closer to the typical back-to-school shopping season in late summer and having it available during a much tighter window.

It makes sense to me to shake things up a bit.

I can't quite see why anyone has a right to be upset if they bought something they wanted when they needed it and are happy with the product. Sales and promotions come and go. If you have the patience and ability to wait you can find great deals on anything. But you have to be patient and wait.

Oh, I agree with you. I wouldn't put up much of a fuss - I just know other people would. And that could be bad for Apple, and it's probably something they should think about. They're all about loyalty, in many ways.

I am really hoping to buy a Mac Book Pro with Retina display this summer before I return to University and was hoping to take advantage of the annual Back To School offer, however there seems to be little sign of it occurring this year. Can you confirm if it is still due to happen as I would ideally like to get my hands on my first Mac sooner rather than later so I can become a true convert before next semester in September.

Response

Yes Charles the back to school offer will run again this year. Dates to be announced

That is my email and the response, as you can see he gave me no real information on whether it is linked to rMBP or if it will be soon, but I promise you this is legitimate and therefore it is definitely happening, 100%

Well that's certainly reassuring. There must be something good coming if it's taking them this long to begin the promotion :D

I bloody well hope so, if it turns out I waited all this time for a £10 voucher to spend at all participating bookstores I won't be impressed!

The sale is already going on in AU and NZ, and I'm pretty sure India, since their school years are different. I'm sure it'll come eventually, just maybe not until the "back to school" time of year. I've always thought it was strange to run "back to school" sales as soon as the year was over.

The bigger question for me is will there be a rMBP refresh to go with it...
