If their making the BTS window shorter, maybe their offering something better than the usual gift card.

I'm not being overly dramatic, but this is literally the worst wait that has ever happen to anyone ever in the history of all time.

zzz..

Getting pretty excited. And just to clarify, the BTS promotion is available online, yeah? It's not just for the retail stores? :D

Is BTS coming soon or what?

I thought it was only available online. They always advertise it on their education website.

Woo what a relief! Well I was first made aware of it by a sales assistant in my local Apple store who told me to hold out till summer and then come back and purchase my MBA then :)

I totally agree. This is even worse than Nelson Mandela waiting 27 years to be released during Apartheid

I'm goin' all-in! Betting all the marbles on July 1st

I'm personally waiting on a 13in rMBP refresh, but I'm very excited to see if they offer anything else aside from a $100 App Store gift card.

The sale is already going on in AU and NZ, and I'm pretty sure India, since their school years are different. I'm sure it'll come eventually, just maybe not until the "back to school" time of year. I've always thought it was strange to run "back to school" sales as soon as the year was over.

The bigger question for me is will there be a rMBP refresh to go with it...

The sales promotions on the other side of the world are extensions of last year's promotions in the US.

I called and asked 1-(800)-MY-APPLE yesterday and the person told me late July/early August. Is it worth waiting for? How big is the discount going to be, anyway?

EDIT: Called again this morning and the person said he has absolutely no idea. Man, this wait is killin' me.

i don't know how its with the 14 days policy, we dont have here in Romania, but i ask you this: if you buy today and return it after lets say 13 days to refund your money and then the next day with the same money buy again and return it in 12 days again and do so until the BTS is On? why you all can't do it?

14 days policy is only for US? or for every country who has an Apple Store?

You can do that. But then you need to ask whether all that hassle (and gas money) is really worth the value of the promo.

thats unethical, you could be banned next time when you visit the apple store.

I finally pulled the trigger. New MacBook Pro coming in a week! :D Hoping the BTS really isn't until late July so I don't end up kicking myself!

That sounds like a horrible plan. Just buy it and be happy or wait for the promo to start hopefully in July or August.

FYI: As a ex-Apple employee most sales associates won't get any info about a BTS offer until about 2-3 days before it happens. Honestly, people on here know just as much as asking a sales associate in the store or in a chat online. Its speculation and based off of looking at what Apple has traditionally done. I'm personally hopeful that it will start in July or August but it coud be that Apple won't be doing any promo this year.

No info

I did an online chat at apple.com and they told me they "can't begin to speculate about future promotions..." Then sent me a link to the education store and told me I could get great pricing now. I don't think Apple tells employees anything so no one spills the beans. I'll be visiting my university in July and will just buy something then, since the bookstore will sell it tax free.

I've heard people say it makes sense to push the promo into August, but lots of universities have already started new student orientation and the prep work to start classes in August is well underway.

Me too! If it doesn't come out July 1st I will buy my MacBook Air 13" on www.bhphotovideo.com, you get $10 off + no tax and a choice between Parallels Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac (OEM Version) or LoJack for Laptops Standard Edition (1-Year Subscription) for free. They are also Apple Authorized Reseller.

Also just did an online chat and was told that there is no guarantee of there being a sale at all since no information has been released yet. All we can do is wait and see, which is torture.

Hmm that's interesting. Maybe Apple think they're missing out on extra profit margins by offering the discount from June till September. I guess it makes sense for them to cut it down to just August/September time. Plus it means that the bottleneck in the new rMBP components will probably be sorted by that time so the BTS deal can coincide with the release of the new rMBP.

Again though, it would be lovely to know who these sources are :')

Can't say on public forum as it may cause complications with their career at Apple. My previous employment allowed me to have contacts in the NYC "headquarters" with the educational and business division on the east coast. They also have a few people in marketing there that I got to know :D

I'm sorta dubious, given the "sources" we were given earlier turned out to be false. And if they do it as late as August, people who have already bought their Mac will be pissed.

Unless of course they make the promo available to those people who have already made their purchase, too. I'm just happy I have mine ordered (and now dispatched)!

Why would they be pissed? They knew they bought a Mac without any BTS promotions. Apple follows the 14-day rule like always. So they would be out of luck.

I was just in the store and the associate suggested that if I wait until the tax free weekend in August I could save the tax and also "likely" get a gift card. I can't assess whether the sales associate has any actual knowledge of the promotion, but it does sound like they may be moving it closer to the typical back-to-school shopping season in late summer and having it available during a much tighter window.

It makes sense to me to shake things up a bit.

I can't quite see why anyone has a right to be upset if they bought something they wanted when they needed it and are happy with the product. Sales and promotions come and go. If you have the patience and ability to wait you can find great deals on anything. But you have to be patient and wait.

From experience, store associates don't know anything unless its public. Even managers don't know until that morning. Yes, they may get documentation or new items the previous day, but they are forbidden to open it until it says so. Cameras are monitored by Apple's security team to verify. One store actually got a call because the envelope was not in view of the camera. The item was just a display sign of a current item sold too!

Because I imagine that since this year's BTS will clearly not have followed the previous years timing, people will have assumed that there wouldn't be a BTS promo this year. Then they find out there was one after all. That might annoy people. It's somewhat of a tradition that's been altered without any kind of communication.

Ordered Macmall

Everyone,

Instead of waiting for a potential BTS sale, why not order now? You can order from MacMall and get free shipping and no tax! Also if you use the code APPLEINSIDER01 you get an additional 3% off.

I just ordered a brand new 2013 13" MBA (1.30GHz/8GB/256GB) for $1352 shipped. That's a better deal than education pricing and they have it in stock today!

Disclaimer: I am not associated with Mac Mall. Just wanted everyone to know there are better deals right now rather than wait for BTS, which is not even guaranteed.

Education pricing on that configuration is $1339. Both sites charge tax in NYS, but that may not be the case in your situation.

Ok you right. Texas they do not charge tax. If ordered through Apple with education discount it would be $1450. So Mac Mall is basically $100 savings.

Where am I missing the place to put in the promo code? I did everything but put in my credit card info in but i still wasn't able to enter the promo code and make sure it works...

Am I just not very bright?

I'm not sure if I'm missing part of your build, but based on what you've written above, on Apple's online store the price is $1339 with education discount, and $1399 without.
