Did Apple not run a similar promotion in May and/or June of previous years (referring to that $50 retailer thing)?

BTS will start next week.

I heard a similar thing from an apple store employee, except I got the impression it might not start until the first week of July.

Also, this employee told me that if I bought now and the BTS started next week I wouldn't be able to claim the promo. Odd, since I thought if you were within two weeks you could claim it retroactively.

This would be unfortunate if it's true. I don't think I can wait until July 1st (and even then it guarantees nothing) to replace my mac. Oh well.

You could do as I am thinking and buy now, (or soon), and then be in the 14 day return window for the beginning of the July in case they wait for that mark.

Doesn't guarantee anything but customer service might be willing to work with you or if it is a home-run of a promotion you could conceveibly return it and repurchase if they are reluctant to recognize how recently you bought it in the first place.

I'm hoping it wouldn't come to that but as I will be leaving the country at the beginning of August, I have little time to play with.

So it appears that Apple will grant you the BTS promo if it starts within your return period.

When does the return window start if I order online? Upon ordering or upon receipt of the product?

From date of order. You order it and wait 14 days for the product, then you can't return it anymore.

Kidding aside, quoted directly from Apple.com "You have 14 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it. For an Apple iPhone, you have 30 calendar days."

So does this mean you'd have to lug the new computer back to the store, return it, re-purchase it, and get it with the promo?

Or, can you just make a phone call and have them mail you the promo?

Obviously, the first option is feasible, but for those who have to travel a bit, it may be worth it just to wait (as bad as that is).

I guess I'll just be waiting some more, then. It's disconcerting not knowing if there's even going to be a BTS offer, but that's typical of Apple's marketing, I guess.

I start University mid-September (and that's the main reason behind purchasing a Mac), so I really can and should be able to wait, heh.

I start early September but I need like a week to prepare my computer and transfer everything manually exactly the way I want haha. Plus I reeeaaallly don't want to wait until the end of August for a refreshed rMBP. The salvage value of my mid-2010 15" MBP is slowly decreasing...

On the cmbp, it is 100 more off (200 off now vs 100 as before) than it was since the keynote

Oh, it's true, but it's so weird that $200 for 13inch and only $100 for 15inch.

When will rmbp 13 has a $200 discount! That will be attractive!

Their Loss! Perhaps there is some truth to this – the B2S promo should have started by now. the brand new released MBA + B2S promotion would have moved a lot of stock, perhaps enough to offset the cost of the promotion.

Who knows... maybe they are waiting for something big, but I doubt it:cool:.

Unless they're realizing many students opt for rMBP over MBA, and due to retina display supply bottlenecks they needed to wait a couple of weeks after WWDC to announce B2S to include a Haswell rMBP line.

I hope.

The Apple representative I spoke to over chat said you won't need to return it and buy it again to receive the promotion.

Haha, I figured. Wanted to be sure though, since large companies rarely behave that I personally "figure" they should.

I think I will order my machine tonight in that case. By the time it ships and all that, plus a 14 day window, we should have heard about BTS. If not, I need it by then anyway.

13" rMBP coming at me!

From the sound of this the promotion may start within the next 14 days.

I doubt it, the reps know just as much as you do. In fact I doubt that even store managers know anything promotional related more than a week in advance.

If you're like me and just itching to pull the trigger, I would wait (if you can) till the begging of july.

I know it's hard but we are talking about ~100 dollars in value in whatever Apple throws at us this year. And if I were a betting man, I would put my $ on a Apple TV if they stray away from the $100 gift card.

I agree whole-heartily with what you're saying. If nothing happens by July 1st, I think it's safe to conclude that nothing will happen this year.

An Apple tv would be an interesting gift....although I would prefer getting $200 off an iPad Mini (mostly for flipping reasons as I already have a Mini), I would probably keep the Apple tv though just to play around with.

store info

i was in the apple store today. No one is divulging any information of course.
Wish I could get my air already!

Honestly I don't even care that much, but if nothing happens I hope Apple at least has a press release.

Don't just stop doing bts and then not inform anyone about it.

I'm really curious what they're going to do this year. It seems Apple really wants Macbook Airs and Macbook Pro with Retina Display's to be their only two laptops. They've been focusing a lot on those two models, making the non-Retina MacBook Pro appear to be on it's last ride. Plus, the technologies in the MacBook Pro are getting very dated.

However, what confuses me is the new education discount they announced earlier. Rather than the normal $100 discount for students on the MacBook Pro, it's now $200. That's only for the non-retina 13" models. Add onto that, a Back-to-School promotion, and those computers will be flying off the shelves. Doesn't really make sense.

Maybe the promotion this year will be a gift card for the MacBook Pro's and an iPad Mini for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

I'm assuming the same. In past years it was started in early June or even late May. I've gone ahead and ordered mine. By the time it arrives on the 27th, plus a 14 day return window, I think I can feel relatively safe of either catching the BTS during that time or it simply not happening.

For me to miss out it would have to only be revealed practically half way through July, which is quite late historically.
