To some of the above people, the Haswell processors have been released by Intel, Apple just hasn't put them in the MacBook Pros yet. Otherwise, the MacBook Air couldn't get those processors either.
I chatted with a couple Apple reps today and they definitely have the "nothing's guaranteed, but our education discounts are bigger than ever" line handed down from somewhere. I was also told I might have to trade in the whole computer and get a completely new one if the promotion started within the 14-day return window, and that keeping the machine and getting the promotion retroactively would be up to the Apple Store manager or sales rep I talked to. "I don't want to guarantee that" was his exact phrasing.
I'm thinking a BTO config would be more likely to get the immediate, no trade-in retroactive upgrade since the manager might be more inclined to get you in and out of the store happily and not make you wait to get a new computer. But there is probably an incentive to move more products (and maybe to get good enough products into refurb even) that they'll want customers to take models they have in-store first.
Seems kind of risky, though... And I suppose it's only another 1-2 weeks of waiting (I can't imagine they would wait until after July).
