Chatted with someone on Apple this morning. I didn't save the screenshot, but it went something like this:

ME:
Good morning! I'm looking to buy a macbook soon. I know you probably can't answer this, but do you know if/when Apple is starting a back to school promotion this year?

APPLE GUY: I don't hear about promotions until the morning they start. Our education pricing this year is lower than ever, but we aren't aware of a back to school promotion starting.

To me, this almost sounds like he doesn't think they're having one at all. Let's hope this isn't true!! I've been waiting too!

I work in retail and we honestly never now of a promotion or sale till the day of!

To some of the above people, the Haswell processors have been released by Intel, Apple just hasn't put them in the MacBook Pros yet. Otherwise, the MacBook Air couldn't get those processors either.

I chatted with a couple Apple reps today and they definitely have the "nothing's guaranteed, but our education discounts are bigger than ever" line handed down from somewhere. I was also told I might have to trade in the whole computer and get a completely new one if the promotion started within the 14-day return window, and that keeping the machine and getting the promotion retroactively would be up to the Apple Store manager or sales rep I talked to. "I don't want to guarantee that" was his exact phrasing.

I'm thinking a BTO config would be more likely to get the immediate, no trade-in retroactive upgrade since the manager might be more inclined to get you in and out of the store happily and not make you wait to get a new computer. But there is probably an incentive to move more products (and maybe to get good enough products into refurb even) that they'll want customers to take models they have in-store first.

Seems kind of risky, though... And I suppose it's only another 1-2 weeks of waiting (I can't imagine they would wait until after July).

CPUs for Pro are different from that for Air

I know these Apple Chat reps aren't the decision makers but I got some less than encouraging info regarding the 14 day window but also conflicting info from the same rep. So ultimately, we just won't know until it goes down.

I've unfortunately just figured out that because of the length of time building the order and shipping takes, and the fact that I'm on holiday soon, the latest I can order my Air is the 25th of June.

I'm really hoping this offer starts on Monday.

you and me both

Do you have an university card? If you have it and the finish date is later than 25th of June you can send a copy of your card.

ugh

Is anyone else getting really tired of waiting for the back to school offer? I've wanted to get my macbook air for two weeks now . UGH

I've been waiting three months. First for Haswell (so much for that) and now at least for Back to School. I caved. Too close to the deadline for when I need it.

Back to School promotion 2013

I been waiting to purchase the new :apple: MacBook Air 13" since they released it at WWDC 2013. If they don't announce it by July 1 (monday) I'm purchasing it on Amazon without tax.

Tomorrow will be two weeks since the WWDC. A lot of people have been thinking it will be fourteen days after that date so people who purchased on the first day cannot return their item and get the promo. That would make Tuesday a good day for it to start.

I along with most others am hoping I wake up to the promo tomorrow morning.

I have been waiting as well. BestBuy has $100 of any MacBook right now and they match Apple's education pricing, so that would make the 13'' only $949.

I really hope that they launch the new Macbook Pro during the BTS window (if the actually go ahead with BTS).

I need a laptop by mid-september when I start university, and if the new MBP isn't released by then, I might have to go for the Air. For what I'm doing, I'm suppose the Air would be fine, but it'd be nice to weigh up each one and have the choice between the two.

(Hi all, by the way. I'm new here - first post! :D)

I was very excited last Sunday thinking that the promo would start on Monday for sure. I am now trying to stay a little more even so I am not depressed tomorrow morning. Crossing my fingers. I really want my computer tomorrow.

Actually I don't see any point that MBP can beat MBA, except that you use CD a lot or need a wire connection for the Internet.

CPU really means little in front of SSD, my work laptop which has a much stronger CPU was beat by my MBA by far even in running program

I went to an Apple Store today (Chicago - Lincoln Park) and the manager said if you bring in the receipt they'll give you the promotion without exchanging the actual computer. That might not be the case at all Apple stores, as the Apple reps that I chatted with a few days ago said that would be up to each store.

If you have access to an Apple Store, I think we're all safe in putting in our order now. If they don't launch the promo by July 1st, I don't think it will happen.

That's a fair point. I'm merely thinking that if when the MBP is launched and there isn't much of a price difference between that and the MBA, I might as well go for the Pro purely because it's a little more powerful. I'm not planning on buying a new machine for a long time after I get this one, so I want to make sure I get something that's not going to get too run down over time.

I hate all the ambiguity! JUST TELL US WHAT'S GOING ON, APPLE!!! :')

So the BTS promo hasnt started today then :(
I think I may have sold my MacBook now, so Im looking to buy a MBA11 to tie me over until the rMBP15 Haswell models are released, but want to put it off for as long as I can to get the BTS offer!

I'm pretty sure if there's a promo today, it wouldn't start until at least 5pm BST or 9am PDT. Right?
